Saw him shopping in Sainsbury's in about 79, his missus was very exotic and exciting...

Can't imagine what he was buying food wise and wished I had the nous to look. Seventies Sheffield supermarkets did not offer your average South American much in the way of native foods. Somehow can't imagine the Argentinian wizard tucking into Fray Bentos pies, Findus crispy pancakes or the embryonic McCains Oven chips that were the food of Gods in our house.

Anyone know his diet? ( yes I know it's a weird question with an unlikely chance of response but then my thoughts about his missus were probably the same and someone in here may have the right amount of weirdness to know!).

My first Blade hero.

I was there when he was presented to the fans at the start of that clip. Also at the first game of the season Orient game (lost 0:2?), buses were on strike that day and we walked to the game from Shiregreen, a great turn out of 19k I think, which was a good crowd back then. A great player on the ball.

From what I remember you could buy salads, vegetables, yoghurts, cheeses, fish & meat and could eat very healthily then as you can now, although you wouldn't believe it by looking at some of the specimens on the streets these days.

I believe Mrs Sabella was a huge fan of the Vesta range (chow mein, curry etc). Followed by Angel Delight or a Saucy Sponge for pud

Fray Bentos is named after the town in Uruguay where meat was processed & packed. It's very close to the Argentine border so Alex could have been a fan of their pies!

Me too. Massive let down losing to orient after all the pre season hype. And it was a Blade who did us! Kitchener? Used to play for Donny?

They'd have been ok in Sheffield nowadays.
Lots of Latino bars and restaurants in

1-2 I think??

Was there myself N , and shock the great man's hand , paraded in front of us on the John street terrace .
2-1 fella , beautiful sunny day ,
just a pity about Cambridge at the other end of the season though .

Peter Kitchen who is a Blades fan. Spoke to him on Facebook last year. His heroes were TC and Woody. He scored a hat trick against us in March 1978

The whole season was a bit depressing, to say the least! But there were a few good moments : the 5-1 demolition of Notts County and the comprehensive 3-0 win over West ham being two of them. Also 'that' goal by Anderson against Sunderland from a Sabella through ball. Absolute moment of brilliance.

With regard to Sabella, he was undoubtedly a very gifted player, but the wrong type of player for the predicament that we were in. At that time I think we needed players more like Trevor Hockey than Alex Sabella.
