Speculation in one paper this morning says that Alex Bruce will be subject of a bid from Sheffield United.

Blades boss Bryan Robson, a long-term colleague of Alex's father Steve, is set to table a £500k bid to land Town's central defender, according to The Sun.

Should this move take place, it's likely to anger Town fans who see the defence as one key area to improve this summer.

I wouldn't want him. when he was at the owls he hardly pulled up any trees.

Surely we can do better.

Yeah i agree with Robbie.

Id say all our central defenders are better than him anyway.

It looks like Jags and Lucketti are on there way.

Maybe we do need another CB for cover.

Well he can play right back (think that's where he got sent off for Weds for too) too. But even there I think we have enough cover in Bromby/Geary.

I think Lucketti may stay you know, I know the rumours suggest otherwise, but I just have a feeling.

But if both was to go, I'd rather go for someone like Darren Purse, or even bring Cathcart in from Manure with Robbo's contacts ;) He has looked decent in the little I have seen of him.

I think we can do better than this - he wasn't exactly great when he was playing at Birmingham.

HaHa

Oh yeah, forgot about the big names you have brought it recently

Same could be same about the owls.... who was it again? Lee Grant? He will be pushing your number one, adamson is it?

Lets be fair neither teams have brought in any so called big names.

Unless Colin Kazim-Richards counts ? :D

I think we signed him a while back.

Although he didnt play much his name was too big to go on his shirt. :)

we brought in bryan robson... you have?

TWTD understands that Town have accepted a bid from Sheffield United for defender Alex Bruce. The 25-year-old is likely to complete his move to Bramall Lane in the next few days with the fee likely to be in the region of £200,000.

Bruce was amongst the eight available players whose names have been circulated to other clubs.

The 25-year-old, who has a year left on his Town contract, spent the second half of last season on loan at Leicester. A permanent move to the Foxes fell down after manager Nigel Pearson moved on to Hull City.

The switch is likely to see manager Roy Keane move into the transfer market for an additional central defender with Damien Delaney out for three months with his thigh injury. Gareth McAuley and Tommy Smith are likely to be the club’s first choice defenders with the only cover youngsters Troy Brown and Tom Eastman.

Wouldn't have a problem with that, he seemed to do OK at Leicester so is proven at this level. And a decent price.

Still think his Dad is a twat mind...

So does that end the myth of signings without a fee then?

Time will tell! :)

For £200k I suppose he would be a decent squad player. However, the few times I've seen him perform, I was not convinced by him.

Wonder if Steve Bruce said to blackie "you can have nossy provided you give my lad a job" :)

I'd prefer us to sign Steady from the Ipswich reject list I must admit...

Hmm, not sure about this one - Ipswich fans didn't seem to mind when he was loaned out to Leicester. Ok if he's signing as back up and we're getting someone else in though.

The boy is not very impressive. Was pants for our grunting chums so not very interested in him coming to BDTBL.
Looks like Birchy is holding KB's ankles whilst he gets right down to the bottom of this particular barrel to scrape it.

See Danny Butterfield has signed for Southampton

His loan spell at the sty was a long time ago when he was pretty young. Not sure it's a great indicator of his quality now.

All that matters is how good or bad he plays for us. Give the lad a chance (assuming the rumours are true) and lets not write him off before he's even kicked a ball for us.

Alan Quinn, Leigh Bromby, Deane Windass, Derek Geary, Richard Cresswell feel free to add to the list of ex sty players who have done well for us i for one wont judge until a ball is kicked.

Love to see Stead back at the lane

I wouldn't. He has had a lot of clubs now, starts well at all of them & then fades badly very quickly. I'd like him on loan for 3 months every couple of years, its the only way anybody will ever get the best out of him.
