I remember Viz claiming there were more terms for people who sniff bike seats than people who actually do it.

There’s one term for such people but if is spellt in a variety of ways- snurge, snirge, snerge, snerj etc.
The word also used to be used as a general term of abuse ( like twat) but seems to have been overtaken by other expressions of scorn.
There was a horse called Snurge which won the St Leger in 1990. It had to have a police escort in the unsaddling enclosure to keep off the militant olifactophiles.
