I thought I would have a look at the latest phenomenon that is artificial intelligence in order to see how clued up it is in terms of predicting results.

Anyhow, it is going for BTTS and a home win tomorrow based on statistics so far for both clubs, more precisely a 2-1 home win…

Mine as well as what kop it is??

Oh and for what little it’s worth, AI fancies a 1-1 for the pigs. Not sure why… I don’t

Which AI service you using?

Nowt posh bud, just a standard ChatGPT.
Reason I'm asking is a few people have made sports prediction wrappers using ChatGPT but they all ended up being scams not bringing in anywhere close to the results they claimed.

Wouldn’t understand any of that bud, just Ai’d it out of sheer curiosity. Don’t think I would back it.

Ask it again, it will probably give a different answer. AI is nowhere near reliable enough.

Maybe if you asked the same question a few hundred times and aggregated the results, but asking only once is about as reliable as asking the bloke down the pub for his thoughts.

That's really not how it works.

What did AI say about last nights match, Stoke v Hull? Bet it didnt predict a Hull win.

Your milage may vary, but when integrating AI with existing enterprise systems I've provided the same data set with the same query and found results to be inconsistent. Using the same AI engine, the same dataset and the same query can provide wildly different answers when executing more than once. This applies to both ChatGPT and Copilot - probably other models as well, but I haven't had the opportunity to integrate others yet.

AI can't be guaranteed to provide an accurate response against a fixed dataset, so scraping a few sites on the internet and finding a consensus to place a bet on is just adding a whole new level of flaws and complexity into the mix.

In short, you'll get an answer, but it might not be the same answer you got 10 seconds earlier and it might not be a correct or even logical answer. The technology still has a long way to go.

I suspect XADE is referring to the suggestion that taking an average may help improve accuracy because a) generative AI models are trained on historic data whereas accurate football prediction requires highly contemporary data and b) even if the data was very recent the models are not trained on football prediction specifically, which is a niche use case which would require finetuning to have much hope of being accurate.

Gen AI is based on stochastic prediction models which mean that in some circumstances taking an average could improve accuracy, but that's not the case in situations where a model is fundamentally unequipped to provide an accurate response.

Absolutely, but it is not the same as the 'infinite monkey theory' which you seemed to be alluding to, the idea that if you stick an infinite number of monkeys in a room with an infinite number of typewriters.. etc.

Who's this 'Al' who you're all referring to? Is it Alan Knill?

I just asked Chat GPT "Will Sheffield United Beat Portsmouth tomorrow". It said "Sheffield United are likely to beat Portsmouth in tomorrow's match. ... Predictions generally favour Sheffield United, with scoreline like 1-0 or 2-0 being common expectations."

But before you get too excited...

I then asked it "Will Sheffield United beat Manchester City tomorrow". It said "Sheffield United are heavy underdogs in their match against Manchester City tomorrow."
So maybe it knows f all after all.
