old` lip up` didnt have much of a shout in the premiership with us,he wasnt too bad from what i can remember.

My memory is that he was a tick-over possession based defensive midfielder a-la Britton for want of a better comparison. We played him at full back and gave him a midfield bow away at Anfield which was only ever going to be a torrid time for him. He had a cracking African Cup of Nations shortly after leaving us if I remember.

Did Warnock really want him or was there a sniff of Cairo needing a new mall? (Ouch, pessimism)

We didn't play him as full back in any of the games he played as I recall. Came off the bench to debut vs Spurs. Seem to recall he started an early move that resulted in a really good shot being saved - think that was the same game. He was in midfield both at Anfield and in the game vs Everton (where Kenny went walkabout?). I liked him - I think had Warnock stayed he'd have been used more in the Championship rather than being shipped on immediately. It was plain to see that NW bought both Fathi and Shelton for the future. I see he signed Stephen Warnock today for Leeds - in that same transfer window 6 years ago we had a bid accepted for him but he opted for Blackburn. I wonder whether we offered Naysmith more money mere months later...

On holiday in Egypt last year got into a few conversations with the locals and all of them knew who the Blades were, because of Fathi. Most of them thought that he was the best player in the current Egypt side as well.
