The Carrier Bag Firm Ground Inventory Taskforce (GITs) would like to point out that, just like Tottenham Hotspur, Bournemouth moved out of their ground, and played home games somewhere else, while their ground was rebuilt/redeveloped on roughly the same site.

At Dorchester if i remember correctly. Always had a soft spot for them; especially after they demolished their ground, turned it through 90 degrees and then, from what i have seen, rebuilt it.

Aren't they the team who have manged to score more own goals against themselves than we have against them, in the matches we have played?

We need to put a marker down , a draw would be great , a win unbelievable , a loss most likely !
Yours truly V . Meldrew

28th April 1990, 4-2, what a game that was. A lovely warm day, back on tracks for promotion. I always think of that time with fondness; the football, the beer, the sex, the pharmaceuticals, the clothes, the music, just about everything. Not like nowadays, kids. Nowadays is shit in comparison. Remember that.

Anyway, back on topic. A good 1st game to draw out of the hat and definitely winnable. I’ve checked the weather and there’s a goalnado forecast for the area on Saturday 🌪⚽. Bournemouth have played 6 preseason friendlies, scoring 13 and conceding 7. I reckon a 2-2 or 3-2/2-3 type of game.

ahahar! Not a Cheat is not going to be happy, he had to fight to be the one to start match day threads with one of the American based Blades (who was the founder) and now admin are doing it!
It was same last season for the first game. Admin may or may not continue to create the 'match thread' :)

You just know we're going to play in the flouro third kit don't you?
I can't see the actual away kit getting many outings this season. I don't mind that. Flouro is one of our 'things' now.

Most likely, but why? There is no clash is there? Correct me if wrong.

That was Florida Blade. I have a long memory. ;)
That was on BM. This isn’t BM

Wish I hadn’t just read this thread. My pre match nerves have set in big time. Can’t remember it ever happening so far in advance of a match before.

Well if we don’t win you’ll soon be restored 😀.
Maybe that’s happened in previous seasons. For that reason maybe the thread police will let you post one now 😂

OK, I'll piggy-back 'Memries of Bournemouth' in this thread...

August 10th sees the first meeting between the clubs in over six years at the 11,329 capacity Vitality Stadium. Incredibly, Bournemouth were founded just ten years after the Blades (1899), but have spent the majority of their history bouncing between the third and fourth tier of English football. Our upcoming fixture is just the 16th time the clubs have met – in which time United have only lost once.

Here’s the goals from our 5-3 home win on 1st September 2012 in League One under Danny Wilson:

To show how far Bournemouth have progressed (with the help of a Russian billionaire...), on 10th December 1994 this was the table for the Endsleigh League Division Two which would end with Bournemouth escaping relegation to the Third Division by 2 points:

This coming season is The Cherries fifth-ever in the Premier League. However…In 2016, Bournemouth were found guilty of violating the Football League’s Financial Fair Play regulations during 2014–2015, the season it secured promotion to the Premier League. The club’s over-spend broke the ‘maximum deviation’, with a £38.3 million financial loss in 2014–2015. This followed a loss of £10.3 million in 2013–2014. The club was originally fined £7.6 million by the Football League, but subsequently negotiated a settlement with a fine of £4.75 million for breaching Financial Fair Play rules. The decision followed months of speculation and investigation about the club breaking Football League regulations.

The club is currently owned by Maxim Demin, a Russian multi-millionaire involved in the petrochemicals trading industry.

Last season (2018-19), The Cherries finished 14th in the Premier League with 45 points.

Top Scorers:

Men to Watch:

Callum Wilson was Bournemouth’s top-scorer last season and is coveted by a number of top sides. He recently signed a new four-year contract so is likely to line up against the Blades on Saturday 10th August.

Norwegian international Joshua King is another Cherries player who has long been linked to a move to a top side.

Transfer Movement:

With the transfer window due to close at 17:00 BST this Thursday (8th August) there may be some late changes, but the latest transfer dealings by Bournemouth are:

IN: Philip Billing (Midfielder from Huddersfield) – ‘up to £15m’.

Jack Stacey (Defender from Luton Town) - £4m.

Lloyd Kelly (Defender from Bristol City) – ‘reported £13m.’

DEPARTURES: Tyrone Mings (to Aston Villa, £20m) Lys Mousset (to Sheffield United, £9.5m). Despite transfer speculation, Ryan Fraser, Nathan Ake and Callum Wilson are still with the Cherries.

INJURIES: Bournemouth's Welsh winger David Brooks will be out for three months with an ankle injury.
Midfielder Dan Gosling ruled out for three months, with a hip injury.

Long-term injuries: Simon Francis, Lewis Cook, Charlie Daniels, Andrew Surman, Steve Cook, Junior Stanislas.

The Manager:

Under manager Eddie Howe, they have risen through the pyramid; the 2015–16 season was A.F.C. Bournemouth's first ever in England's top division.

A defender before retirement who spent much of his career at Bournemouth, he was the youngest manager in the Football League when appointed Bournemouth manager in January 2009. Howe rescued Bournemouth from relegation out of the Football League in his first season in charge, after the club started the season on minus 17 points, then led them to promotion the next. After a brief spell as manager at Burnley, Howe returned to Bournemouth and led them to two further promotions in three seasons resulting in the club playing in the top flight of English football for the first time in their history. Howe's successes with Bournemouth resulted in him being given the inaugural Football League Manager of the Decade Award in 2015. The departure of Arsène Wenger from Arsenal in 2018 made Howe the longest-serving active manager in the Premier League.

Full season low-down on Bournemouth.

What a goal from Cofie!
I reckon he'd do a job for us... :tumbleweed:

I often feel that way about the steel city derby but I know what you mean mate :D

Just for me, can you reprise or recreate that pink depressed looking emoji that I used to great effect over three seasons of predicting "loyse" in our rapid rise up the divisions? I fear for our progress without it. That and mattbianco1 old avatar. Thanks. xxxxxx
you'd better predict 'loyse' this week Snowman. i look out for it every week :D

Long weekend by the sea. Middle of August. What could possibly go wrong! Can’t wait!

I don't know about anybody else but my feelings as regards Saturday are all over the place, one minute I'm thinking that we'll surprise them and get a really good result the next minute I'm thinking that this is going to be really tough and we'll get comprehensively beaten, I'm constantly editing my super 6, in the end I've gone for 1-1,

I was the same for our first game back in the Championship against Brentford, thought we'd struggle against them, they passed it around much better and were overall the better team imo. We won 1-0. Looking back, I remember walking down Bramall Lane and two of their fans were talking saying we were poor and will get relegated. How wrong he was...

Last time I went to Bournemouth we won 2-0, Ched scored both I think.
A bunch of us southerners agreed to meet at a pub about a mile from the ground, might have been the cricketers or something, we researched it beforehand and were not sure if they would let away fans in.
When we turned up the front of the pub was largely covered up with a huge SUFC flag hung from high up, full of blades....,

I was at the first home game against Bournemouth back in April 1982. We were in the middle of a great run to the 4th Division title but they had the best defensive record and would finish 4th and got promoted with us. Nigel Spackman was playing for Bournemouth that day.

I think ex Chelsea player, David Webb, was their manager at the time.

Only been once to Bournemouth. Think it was the March 1984 game, and I'm pretty sure King Edwards got the winner. What I do remember about the game was the weather. We got all four seasons worth in 90 minutes. Sunshine, Rain, Snow, Wind, Hail...the lot!

Aye I know what you mean , keep thinking about how the game might go . A mixture of excitement and the unknown . However can you imagine coming away with 3 points and the statement of intent that would give .

I recall the terriers surprising many in their first premier league game , 2-4 away to palace if I recall correctly?

Exciting times ahead , roll on sat

I’ve gone for 2-2

Went there once, in November 1989. Bradshaw's header from a Deano cross won us 3 points. At the final whistle we were hearing that L**ds were winning 3-2 at Leicester but then there were cheers as Leicester had equalised and then about a minute later there were louder cheers as Leicester scored the winner followed by a rendition of "We hate L**ds"

I think - for the first few games - the sheer pace, power and fitness of established PL players may take us by surprise. Hope not.

Anyway, looks like Nathan Ake will be lining up against us. Leicester have pulled out after being quoted £75m.

Now I'm sorry, but this is getting fucking ridiculous. Ake is not even a 'like-for-like' replacement for Maguire. He's never impressed me, seems more concerned about doing his 'Ruud Gullit-lite' impersonation and is often caught out of position.

My only visit was where we won 1-0 in 2013 in Wilson’s 2nd season. The newly-signed Jamie Murphy got the goal and we looked decent. I went home thinking we were on course for promotion. Instead, Bournemouth never looked back and powered onto promotion – and we ditched Wilson and had the Yeovil embarrassment in the playoffs.
