I think your view is the healthy one BB. Naturally I'll support Adkins, but he's got that boy scout enthusiasm you'd expect, and what matters is whether he can get the existing players to respond to his demands, plus whoever he brings in will have to make a positive difference. Personally I'm dreading a potential signing of Billy Sharp. Not because I have anything against the guy, but because I feel any existing sentiment clouds the judgement of whether he's capable enough to give us that threat we're sorely in need of. If Adkins does manage to sign Billy then I hope he does well, but I fear that moment has come and gone and that it's time to sign someone more able and who's going to be here for the long-term.
If we do sign Billy I'd hope it was because Adkins rates him and thinks he will fit into the style of play he wants to use, not because of any misguided sentiment or desire to appease a section of our supporters.

Exactly. I doubt Adkins would do anything other than make a judgement based on what he feels is beneficial to the Blades. Time will tell. If he, or any manager, begins to be swayed by supporters, I think he'd be on the slippery slope towards being neither one thing or the other.

According to the Stir he's "interesting and engaging...." Who gives a shit ! last one that fitted that description was one smooth talking besuited Dave Weir. I'd prefer to have a Manager who is awkward and bumbling during interviews but who gets results. Fatty Evans at Rotherham won't win any popularity contests, he can be downright rude and aggressive at interviews but he can win games and get teams promoted.

Hope Adkins " engaging" style translates into a good to watch, successful and winning team

Everyone, clear your throats and start rehearsing "The Blades are going Up, And now you're gonna believe us And now you're gonna believe us...".
[Cue friendly pitch invasion in early Spring sunshine, hapless stewards helpless to prevent it, players held aloft, chorus of Greasy Chip Butty, etc., you get the picture.]

we've had people with "good" cv's before though....

the point was more that Clough was vilified for supposingly only going for his ex players (although of the 20+ players he brought in only 6 were under his previous charge.) but people seem to think it's wonderful that he likes going for players he knows.... and saying how wise he is for it... (paraphrashing obviously) Fickle is the word I would say.

(bear in mind also he has signed Jonathan Forte twice....and thats when he wasnt scoring!)
I think different people was slating Clough in the recruitment of players for a few different reasons, some didn't like the fact that he seemed to go for his old guard, some didn't like him not going for any strength, some for him signing too many small players and similar in stature i.e. nothing to change our in game tactics because of this, some didn't like the positions he was going for i.e. Midfielders when we quite clearly needed CB's or Brayford when we had sufficient RB's to not worry about that position until next season.

Nobody would have batted an eyelid if we'd have been getting enough results to get promotion but the fact we didn't raised these issues even more. I think a lot of us are willing to give Adkins the benefit of doubt as regards transfers until he atleast actually makes one and sees how that player, management and team perform as a whole.

How many managers bring one or two ex players because they project the right attitudes and disciplines the manager wants to instil into the dressing room.
I would say the vast majority, do. Quite a few are made captains, for that reason.

Beggar all bring 6 players in a few months.

The guy's 'sin' was to answer a highly predictable question in his first meet the press interview , and on that basis he gets criticised.

Bearing in mind he's not even made a signing, plus he's called for togetherness and a United front;
for him now to be getting criticism at this stage, is what I actually call really FICKLE,

We really haven't had very many.

Warnock did. Basset did. Look what followed.

Inside Clough and Wilson's there's a photo of an athsmatic ant on a big shopping trip. Look what followed.

It's likely that Adkins' ex players were winners. It's likely that Cloughs' were anything but.
