In tribute to the recent victory of our West Yorkshire neighbours, I thought some of you might be interested in this write-up of our 1953 game at Leeds Road. It was originally published in Sporting Days in 1955, but this version is from The Footballer's Companion in 1962.
No players' names are mentioned in the report, but I believe that our line-up was:
Burgin, Furniss, Shaw (G), Shaw (J), Johnson, Denial, Ringstead, Hutchinson, Browning, Bottom, Hawksworth.
Furniss scored the penalty (and, presumably, the own goal). I'm not sure why Jimmy Hagan didn't play. And, just in case you were worried about being pegged back, we went on to win the title (beating Huddersfield by two points with a worse goal difference, so this point made all the difference).
