In these days the clubs kept the players registrations after the expiry of the contracts and demanded a transfer fee. The Bosman ruling changed all this. There were paper reports that West Ham tried to sign Woody in April 1970 and in Summer 1976 Norwich tried to sign him but Jimmy Sirrel persuaded Woody to sign a new contract after offering him to be the club captain and a midfield role.

The board promised Currie in Summer 1973 that they would sign players to build a good team around him but a year later we sold his good friend Geoff Salmons to Stoke!
