Yes, missed a penalty in the shoot-out
Cheers Silent I thought he did. Now, I'm not saying Elliott is definitely getable, but clearly Klopp uses pre-season to make a decision on the kids and if they are going to make his PL squad when it’s needs to be submitted.

It’s one game, with two preseason matches. Get a grip
These are professional players who played in a way that Slav then criticised.
If you or I failed to play as he wants then that would be understandable, but why should it take highly paid professionals so long to grasp a new system ?
It may take time to be good at it, but that is a different problem. I was not expecting them to be brilliant, but they seem to fail at the basics let alone a new system.

I think we sometimes forget that professional footballers are like regular human beings. Some have sublime skills and a great footballing brain from an early age. Others might not have the physical stamina to develop beyond a certain age.
Some might show glimpses of football potential, but develop later in life, because they go through an adaptation process, allowing them to play on through good diet and management of their bodies.

The current squad contains a broad mix of all these types, and Slav now has the unenviable task of getting his message across to them individually and collectively, in a language that is not his first.

Hampered by a poorly constructed pre-season and Covid restrictions, it will obviously be a while until this new style jigsaw comes together, and starts to produce the attacking, high press style that we are all looking forward to.

Please give him, and the squad, time to develop and address the problems that Slav ball will inevitably bring with it, before demanding success from day one.

I agree that these are the players we need ( possibly one wide striker) but that is half a team all of whom have to gel
You weren't one of these "we'll piss the Championship with our current squad" deluded guys ,were you ?
Could be a long season mate.

Does anyone have a link to the interview?

1.) Davies - sorts out the left side centre half if we’re going 4 at the back, which I think he’s committed to.
2.) Vieira - adds some serious steel to the midfield base if he’s fit and able to play as he did at Leeds of course.
3.) Garner - same as above although probably more progressive with the ball.
4.) Elliott - one we’d all cream our collective pants for if hes achievable.
5.) Not a clue. Another creative youngster??

That would be the dream scenario but it does mean the end of Bash, Norwood, Fleck, and Dids in the starting 11 if folk can handle that.
We can't stand still or we'll go backwards.
We need to clear out the ones who've faded away + the ones who were abject Wilder expensive mistakes

Not at all
As a blind guy with two Glass eyes could see that we needed someone / anyone who could head the ball a d be a physical presence at the back.
Someone who could create from Midfield and move the ball quickly and someone who could kick ass in the middle of the park.

unfortunately Wilder for all of his qualities left us with a totally unbalanced squad whilst also
Wasting most of our funds on below value players.
agree it is going to be a long hard season although our new manager would not have come unless he was given some assurances

People don’t realise how good he could be. Was playing in the top flight in poland regularly at 16. As a centre back
I thought SJ liked young players but neither Lopata nor Jebbo has got a squad number - bizarre.

If we need money from sales then I’d try and keep Berge and move Ramsdale on. Surely if we get £30m plus for him that’s enough to keep us going and strengthen.

He’s going to be a great goalkeeper, hopefully even Englands first choice, but we’re now in a league where teams lump it into our box which genuinely worries me with Ramsdale.

You’re arguing with yourself. Get a grip. One match in. We will be up there.
The original quote is “get a grip on reality before it gets a grip on you”
The reality here is it is not one match but around 50 where the players have fallen short on an ability to pass cleanly, take set pieces and win 50/50 challenges.
I am happy to reserve judgement on Slav to give him time to get it right.

James Shield reckons it’s sell to buy, for bigger signings at least. Wouldn’t affect guys like Kirk.

Championship clubs can include a maximum of 25 players in their Squad List for the season. Players under the age of 21 are not required to be included in the Squad List to be eligible to play. My guess is that the squad numbers we released are just the players that have to be registered. The likes of Gordon, Lopata, Brunt and Jebbison will be given squad numbers once they are selected for the first team squad.

I agree with the sentiment in your post and will give him time. However the style of play should not affect the ability to pass cleanly, take set pieces and win tackles, things that have been lacking for over a year.

Youngsters dont need squad numbers.
43.9 Squad Lists

43.9.1 Clubs shall be permitted to name up to a maximum number of Players in their Squad
List based on the following provisions:

(a) in respect of Championship Clubs, 25 Players of which a minimum of 8 must be a Home Grown Player;

(b) in respect of League One and Two Clubs:
(i) in Season 2020/21, 22 Players of which a minimum of 8 must be a Home Grown Player; and
(ii) in Season 2021/22 and each subsequent Season, 20 Players of which a minimum of 8 must be a Home Grown Player.

The limit set out in Regulation 43.9.1(b)(ii) increases to 22 for any Club relegated into League One, for its first Season following relegation.

43.9.2 The following Players do not need to be included in the Squad List to be eligible to play in League Matches:

(a) in respect of Championship Clubs, any Under 21 Player (save for any Under 21 Player who is registered with the Club on a Temporary Loan Transfer); and

(b) in respect of League One Clubs and League Two Clubs, any Under 21 Players.

Liking youngsters doesn't mean playing them for the sake of it, they've still got to be good enough. We all enjoy a home-grown talent breaking into the first team squad and I'd love to see someone get game time.

Our u23s did very well last year, and they do seem an relatively exciting crop of players. However the blunt / harsh reality of academy football is that most may not make it and perhaps 1 or 2 in the long term will ply there trade in the Championship or higher.

I may be mistaken but from our 2011 Youth Cup Final crop, pretty sure only Maguire & Long made this benchmark with the rest falling into obscurity.

Jebbison seems like the most likely, but there's every chance he goes the way of Jordan Slew and not DCL.

The bigger concern right now is freshening up the first team with genuine improvements on what we've got.

I don't think it's fair to say 'stinking the squad up' but there are a number of players who need to move on, both for the club and their future.

Regardless of how this season goes, we know we need to be better next season. Whether that's in this division or the PL. We've seen what happens when we try to sign players in the top flight and trying to replace 7 players is not going to happen. We need to be bringing players in now for future years.

A major issue is not knowing what formation we're likely to be playing, especially at the back.

Stevens - 31 - Not the future. If we're playing with a LWB then not good enough. If we're playing with a LB then this throws up a number of issues (Lowe and Osborn can't play there, but can Robinson?)
Robinson - see above. If not, good enough as a back-up in a 3, but not in a 2
Baldock - not convinced he's good enough as a RB for a promotion side. But Bogle is not a good RB so we have no one else. Given the other problems, he'll do, but not good enough for a higher level
Fleck - 29 - John has gone and we appear to be stuck with Jimmy. He's always seemed to struggle with match fitness when not playing every game (not idea whether that's him or just one of those things) but turns 30 this month. You can argue for keeping him but clearly not good enough at a higher level
Norwood - 30 - Terrible last season and started where he left off. If there was a ballon d'or for pointing, he'd be a favourite. He's a deep playmaker who passes sideways or back with the occasional diagonal. Hardly ever creates anything.
Sharp - 36 - Last season. He doesn't fit in to a front 3. Sure, he can score but he's basically keeping a kid off the bench at this stage. Great servant to the club but...
Mousset - Can't play 90 minutes, can't stay fit. He could be the best player in the world but he's pointless.
Burke - He showed last night that he can be dangerous if he plays a little deeper and runs through the lines. I'm very unconvinced there's enough of a footballer in there.

Then there are players like Lowe, Slater, Smith, Eastwood, L1 Wes who could all be moved on.

That basically seems to leave:

Ramsdale (I'd sell if it means we can bring 4 or 5 in)
Verrips (who know how good or bad he is. He seems to be cursed though)
Egan
Basham - he doesn't start in a back for but a player who can cover several positions
JOC (Will he ever come back at a decent level or even ever come back?)
RND (Can he play as a LB as well as he does as a LWB?)
Bogle (good as a flying RWB, poor as a RB)
Osborn (plays a number of positions and good cover)
Berge (again, sell if it means we can bring 4/5 in)
McBurnie (Should be able to play in this system. Questions over his recent injury record)
Brewster (not going to get anything like our money back, so pray a miracle happens. Still obviously young and has potential)
McGoldrick (Last year of contract. Can play in a number of roles, but not sure he fits into a SJ system)
I would like Burke to have a bit longer. His unpredictability is entertaining if nothing else. Tries to run with the ball, occasionally successful, and that is so lacking in this team. Not a striker though.

James Shield reckons it’s sell to buy, for bigger signings at least. Wouldn’t affect guys like Kirk.
It might well be sell to buy but I would hope we're doing this sensibly and are doing the bigger deals on loan-to-buy. Norwich did that for Gibson and Giannoulis: combined £3m loan fees and a further £15m now they've been promoted.

From the rumours I’ve read I’m picturing R. Vieira sat in the airport waiting to see if he can sign. Reminds me of that infamous Wilder deadline day video.

His mum's in Leeds isn't she, may as well wait there.

I might be sounding negative here but our club has links in both France and Belgium arguably the top 2 nations for talented footballers. We have an experienced well travelled manager who has managed in many countries and our scouting network has narrowed down our transfer targets to Viera who is a defensive midfielder who we probably dont need if Berge stays and Charlie Kirk who plays football for Crewe........God help us
