I think we definitely need to go back to it on Saturday.
I don't think Basham and Hammond will work in a 4-4-2 and I'm guessing they're likely to be the only combination (maybe Reed as well) who could do well in a 2 man midfield. Problem is neither of them are the kind of player who can put his foot on the ball and orchestrate play. If you played 3 and put Coutts, Baxter or Reed in there I think we'd create a lot more chances.
I don;t think we have the wide men for a 4-4-2 either. Done doesn't play well there and Adams is much more dangerous up front. Neither perform the defensive side of it well.Playing 4-4-2 last night relied on the wide men creating things and they struggled.
This, for me, would look our best starting XI
Howard
Beard (Freeman) Edgar (Collins) McGahey Wallace
Basham Baxter Hammond
Done Sharp Adams
It relies on Baxter dropping back to pick up the ball and start our attacks from deep with Hammond and Basham dropping to cover the Fullbacks as they provide the width.
