With one match to go and an average of 30,009 , are we going to break this figure ? Only been done a handful of times in my 50+ years going to the Lane , and , as most will be aware , hasn't been attained in 55+ years by the S6 lot .

By my reckoning we need 29,838 for the Spurs game . Usually there is an upturn in numbers for the final game of the season , but have we put the kibosh on this with performances and charging over £40 for the remaining adult tickets ?

We will do it at a canter. There will be hundreds of Korean tourists at the game.

Of course the actual attendance will be less, as many ST holders have had enough.

I'd expect a decent crowd for the Spurs game. Shit or not it's against a quality side that we won't see for a while and no football for a few months after.

I’m not one for pettiness. But in our worst season results wise we average 30,000 while the worlds greatest escape happened and they got like 26,000 average.

They're the weirdest fanbase I know. In my lifetime we've always seemed to average more but away games or the odd big game they come outta no where?

That season they pipped us to automatics in 11/12 they average around 21k. Last game of the season against Wycombe they got 38k at home.

I won't even start on the Wembley day trippers.

Odd support.

If they got 16 points in the prem what do you think there average attendance would be? Do you think they'd only have 25k home fans there for quite a few games? Do you think they'd only sell out 3 times? Seen as for some reason you brought them into this what are your thoughts on all those questions?

Tottenham attendance will be about the same as against Forest I would have thought.

Somebody on a football WhatsApp was asking how easy it was to take his lad to the lane so they could see a PL game.

I said he’d have no bother getting a couple to which a pig fan piped up - “not selling out last day, what a disgrace”.

I know this is a bit of a wind up but I have a ST at the lane and travel away when I can. The lad saying this goes to maybe a handful of games at Swillsborough per season at best.

This is the difference in mentality - glory seeking on steroids vs a steady overall attendance.

Every Blade I know either has a season ticket or goes to as many games as work/distance from the lane allows.

They have loads ready to pile out of the woodwork but will swing between having a season ticket to happily not going for a few years.

When they drew with Norwich could hear the bloke next door shouting his head off. Why, I thought, if he’s that bothered, did he not travel just over a mile to go and see the game in person. Not like it’s hard to get a ticket.

Blades tend to find the whole thing consuming where as the usual reply from one of them is “I’m a Wednesday fan I suppose but I’ve not really been to a game for years”

So basically we have the loyal core support and they just have the bandwagon jumping support?

I have noticed alot aren't buying STs at Hillsborough next season due to pricing/chansiri.

That’s how I’ve always seen it. For two clubs from the same city who usually compete at the same level the difference in culture between the two sets of fans is quite something.

They sold 5 years tickets but I also remember them selling premier league return tickets a few years ago.
Woodworm fans , there average isn't good but when there's a big game they bus them all in from barnsley / donny.

Majority of football fans in Sheffield follow United. They make up their support from surrounding areas. United are Sheffield’s no1 club.

the Pigs would average 30,000 if they were in the top divtnowadays.
I’m not sure they would you know.

Wednesday are probably the most over hyped club ever. And this ends up occasionally with pundits outside of our area ‘bigging’ them up based on little factual knowledge. Ie even up here in Huddersfield no one can believe me when I tell them that the last time they had a home average of over 30,000 was 1968 - over 45 years ago!

However, fact is for ‘big matches’ they have a significant floating support you enjoy the odd big day out. Hence why I accept they can pull some fantastic attendances for some matches. But on a match to match basis over a full season, we are both very similar in terms of numbers through the turnstiles.

I am certain they would do it. Apart from anything else they have a bigger capacity.

Of course they would*

We manage it and we can "only" get 32k in the ground - they can get c. 37k, and they would for man U, liverpool, Spurs, Man C, chelsea, Arsenal.

With those big crowds they can afford to have 6 crowds of 24k and still average 30k (assuming they average 30k against all the other clubs)

*The potential fly in the ointment (for them) here is the ground. Can they actually get a crowd that big through the turnstiles in the PL with all its other "criteria"

Going back to the initial post, I’m not obsessed with crowds other than 30k is a nice milestone so would be good to achieve that and I think we will.

Spurs will certainly sell out and we ought to pull 27.5 minimum for the final game of the season

Safety concerns lower it to 34k and falling

You're kidding yourself.

Portman Road holds 29,673.

What do you think Ipswich's average attendance will be next season?

Wouldn't they also give more away tickets out though? Ours is 2.7k but I'm sure slag end they can offer double. And PL clubs do usually sell out.

For a long time, Wednesday had a larger ‘core’ fan base than us. That’s a fact. Then for a number of reasons that changed in the early 2000’s and these days I reckon we’ve got marginally a larger core.
If we were both in the same division performing roughly the same, I’d expect their average would still be higher because, ground regs notwithstanding, they have a larger capacity. If we could increase our capacity, then I’m confident we’d have the highest average.

More interested to see how many are left for the semi lap of shame.

I hope plenty stay just to acknowledge those who have been great servants to us over recent years and are now off.

Despite this season's shitshow Baldock, Bash, Norwood, maybe McBurnie, maybe Wes etc deserve a good send off.
