Jean Calvé - apparently brought in on trial for tonight's game. Plays for Grenoble Foot, which sounds like some kind of injury you get from a ski holiday in France

From OS....

French triallist Jean Calve starts, as does Leon Britton, in Tuesday's pre-season friendly at Notts County.

Stephen Quinn and Ched Evans are amongst the replacements available to Kevin Blackwell.

Fellow triallist Kerrea Gilbert is also a substitute, along with Nottingham-born youngster Jack Adams, who has progressed through United's Academy.

Notts County boss Craig Short has former Blades Keith Gillespie and Jon Harley on his bench.

County: Burch, Spicer, Hunt, Lee, Bishop, Westcarr, Hughes, Burgess, Davies, Thompson, Chilvers.
Subs: Nelson, Edwards, Ravenhill, Gillespie, Hawley, Harley, Pearce.

Blades: Simonsen, Calve, Lowton, Morgan, Taylor, Ward, Montgomery, Ertl, Britton, Yeates, Cresswell.
Subs: Aksalu, Gilbert

1-0 and a very strong performance according to my mate who was there. Should have won by 3 or 4. Evans looked sharp when he came on.

Wasn't a bad match at all really. Played some neat stuff at times too, cracking finish for the goal.

How did the triallists Jean Calve and Kerrea Gilbert

Did Adams, Roe, Lowton, Chappell and James do ok?

What about Aksulu and Britton? Are they looking ok?

I'm getting up for Sunday already!!!!

I thought they did fairly well to be honest, but its always hard to judge in a game like that.

Thought Lowton did well, the others all looked positive, but difficult to rate given that they came on during wholesale changes, it kind of disrupted the flow a bit.

It'll be interesting to see what he does with Lowton, the plan was to loan him out for the season, but I'd be tempted to give him a try.

Aksulu didn't have a great deal to do, but what he did, he didn't struggle with.

Britton looked lively and looked to get on the ball plenty (as did Yeates). Noticed a distinct lack of crossing from deep (other than a fantastic crossfield ball to play Wardy in from Cresswell) and a lot more simple pass and move around the edge of the opposition box. They definately look like they are making a concious effort to keep the ball down, whilst still shifting the ball about quickly and making progress.

Wardy was more lively too, but showed again why he's better utilised on the wing, doesn't seem to be able to tuck away a 1-on-1 and drifts in and out of the game up top.

i thought tonight was really positive, the first 3 minutes we were passing it around like it's all we've ever done. britton played some right balls and always looked to get on the ball and never looked like the first thing he wanted to do was hoof-he linked up really well with cressy/ward/yates.

am i right that jean calve started at rb? if so, from what i saw was that he didn't have a great deal to do, when he did, maybe not enough to earn a contract if blackwell is to be believed on quality over quantity?

lowton was great all game, seemed comfortable with morgs in the middle and even with taylor after the changes. first pre-season game i've been to this year and i also thought that when we made the changes, the kids were fantastic and definitely something to look forward to. gilbert did alright, few nice moves.

seems like a few more (1 or 2) signings and add a few of the youngsters in and we are looking good for the new season.

will we keep playing passing football though?

What does the OS mean?

Went with my County supporting mate, his kids and mine, so sat in the family stand, behind the goal.

Thought we looked pretty good in the first half - as others have said, we passed the ball well, and it was a pleasure to watch. We hit the post early doors - I think it was Ward with a flick header over the keeper, and had a goal ruled out for a very soft foul on the keeper. It was hard to see how the defence looked, but County only really threatened from a couple of free kicks.

Once the 8(!) changes were made, the flow went a bit, but there was lots of breaking forward at pace, as the game broke down. One bit of heart in mouth defending with the ball cannoning around the 6 yard box, before a well deserved goal.

Positives - passing, Lowton's performance

Negatives - I thought Cresswell was poor, and it call got a bit messy with the changes, so i'm still worried about strength in depth

Still, roll on Cardiff - the usual pre-season optimism is in full flow

Cheers. I heard The Chancellor played well. (Leon Brittain)

Thanks folks, sounds good....

I just wonder how we'll line up against Estudiantes, which links us nicely into the next match thread :)
