Sheffield United 5 Brighton 4

John Francis's diving header in the last minute

that was probably my wildest celebration ever at a football match. About 10,000 there saw us throw away a 3 goal lead to go 4-3 down. Then pulled it back and scored with a last minute winner. Even though it was such a nothing game, what a memory!

It actually saw us go top of the 2nd tier for the first time since 1971.

I lived in London at the time, and never missed a match, at 3-4 down i stormed out and drove back down the M1, I was in nottinghamshire before the final result came through.:)

In the days when we had crap crowds, were sheffields 2nd best. Oh how times have changed:)

I was stood on the kop as usual that day. The old git who moaned and moaned every week marched loudly up the kop a little after it went 3-4 announcing that "Bertie bleeding Bassett can sod off back to London, bloody rubbish." He must've got to the back of the kop when the equaliser went in, because by the time we all got up there at the end of the game he was stood there looking sheepish and taking some right stick from all of us. Things were just starting to turn for us after years of weeping!

blimey, but thinking about the dates I suppose it couldn't have been a nothing game. Happy days.

I was working in a residential kids home at the time but still had season ticket and usually managed to sort shifts to see games, however for this game I was stuck at work, can still remember older kids laughing when it went 3-4, happilly I was able to have last laugh and we had a great night in matlock bath, a defeat would have meant no supper and early to bed for all!

I remember that game. I was billy no mates that day, being 14-15 years old and pretty much the only Blade in a school full of snortbeasts. I decided to stand behind the crush barrier on the top bit of the John St West terrace for the first time.

All good for the first 3 goals but our equaliser and the winner had me crushed up against the barrier struggling for dear life to get a breath.

bloody great memries :-)

it is my favourite moment on on my harrys games video i remember "brighton who were dead at 3-0 are now in the lead" and to finish "john francis he's surly won the game its 5-4"

Brilliant

I was at that match also. Stood next to an old fella on the kop. Everytime there was a goal he farted. Kept saying to my mate, if he farts again i'm gonna knock his block off cause it reaks.
I bought the video of that game. Watched it all the way through (obviously) and afterwards thought what a crap game.I suppose you had to be there to feel the emotion and not knowing the outcome. Plus the smell of the farts all helped to make it such a memorable day.

I had arranged a weekend at Blackpool with my mates but at the same time didnt want to miss the Brighton game. I travelled by car to Blackpool on the Friday. On Saturday morning I got on the train back to Sheffield in time to watch the 9 goal thriller and then after the game got back to Blackpool by train!
