I much prefer to have a positive outlook than negative when it comes to football and well, just life in general. Just enjoying the ride fella ;)

Night night :)

UTMB

Firstly we played great again, the better team. Had majority of chances. But again the worrying trait of this team as i discussing at half time for probally the last 7 - 9 months. That you can have all the ball, superiority & territory. Play great but if you dont make it count. Like utd rarely ever do, You always leave yourself at risk for a team to have 1 chance & score for an undeserved point or 3 like Swansea Millwall Preston maybe derby. Best example is last season we Shouldve battered Cardiff 6-0 but only drew 1-1

Congratulations on picking out the very few negatives on a night of a great performance.

Well done A*

Oh and get some shut eye, you'll feel better tomorrow mate :)

It was a crap performance because we threw away 2 points. Are you Mcabes butler?

Not for me. I prefer to see what's in front of me. Not that any old outcome is fine as long as the lads wear the shirt.

The last two games have shown why we won't stay at top unless things change in January.

That's not a criticism, it's an observation.

We've done exceptionally well to produce a team that plays such good football and dominates much more expensively assembled outfits, but the frustration at being so close yet so far is understandable.

but a promotion team wouldn't play that well in the past 2 games and only pick up a point.

Last season Fulham played brilliantly in many matches but picked up 1 point in 2 matches. They managed to get promoted.

Also you can’t judge any team using 2 matches, it needs to be at least 10 matches to a make a proper judgement.
However performances are generally an indicator of future results.
Keep playing well on a consistent level and sooner or later the results will come.

But the 2 matches before that showed why we will stay top.
And if we beat Wigan 4-0 (Sharp 2 Clarke 2) on Saturday then no doubt many will say we’re going to win the league ansd might not need strikers.

Any true assessment needs to use a run of 10-15 games, not just TWO matches.
Agree we lack top quality in several areas (especially up front). Wilder uses a formula that relies on his system instead of individual brilliance. The problem with top end quality is we can’t afford it. We only have 5 million, maybe a little more..

The dropped points in the last two matches have come from the same frailties in games earlier this season, and last.

Both gamea are symptomatic of where we fall short.

And as my last post said, it's not a criticism.

Feller, the positives are us, sat above Middlesbrough by five clear points. Like we should be.

Boro won't keep fucking up, like we do. WBA will see this as a clear opportunity and soon, we may find ourselves not in the two automatic spots, but in the fucking playoff mix, just where we don't want to be. And as if last season wasn't a lesson in kind, we are one injury away from slipping further down the stack, given our inability to take the sword out and issue the death stroke to struggling and underperforming teams like Stoke City.

Positives. It's the very few negatives which cancel them all out. Get some perspective.

pommpey

Yet Boro are on the same points as us so they must be "fucking up" as much as we are.

If you really expect us to win every game then there's something wrong, we've dropped 4 points in the last 2 games in my view, however we scored late goals in 2 of the previous 4 games that gained us 4 points so it's swings and roundabouts.

No one will run away with this league, we certainly won't, but if we keep plugging away we'll do ok. It's just a case of hanging on in there throughout the poor results and ensuring that the standard of performance doesn't drop over the course of the season like it did last season. We have a bit more depth to the squad this season apart from up front, where we are scarily light should one of the main 2 get injured. Hopefully we can rectify this in January without having to break the bank.

As good as our football is at the moment, WHY do we have to sit back and let the oppo's at us every time we go ahead? Our defence can't cope with even 5 minutes of sustained pressure. We need to score 3 before we can be assured of winning the game, even when we have totally dominated.

CWs interview is quite telling in terms of mindset.

He mentions two key things:

1. We will get to 50 points and stay in the division.
2. Players have no right to be anywhere near the performance levels of Stoke and Derby.

That’s a dangerous mindset to be instilling in the players and at lest goes part way to explaining our rapid starts to both seasons (let’s get to 50 as fast as we can) and our tendency to panic when we go ahead ( bloody hell we are beating Stoke)

Tonight - I don’t understand the blind panic when we went 1 up?

Also why didn’t our top scorer feature?

I'll stick my neck out and say that we created enough chances last night to win the game and it certainly was 2 points dropped. We didn't run out of ideas and take our foot off the gas, but just kept going.

After scoring they upped their game and we sat back (again). Not a fitness issue, just lost the midfield a bit as they clicked into life.

Wilder said Billy was not up to it and Leon was

Poor mans Matt Done.

His job when he comes on is to run the channels and give us an out ball when we are defending late on. His running around like a headless chicken contributed to countless aimless balls straight to a Stoke centre half.

Of course it’s not all his fault but when he’s playing alongside a centre forward who is absolutely knackered he has to put a shift in and he just didn’t.

I don't think he played bad when he came on but I would still have preferred to see BS.

I went on Boris fan site and for some reason they aren't slagging off their team relentlessly for only drawing with Rotherham. They seem to think draws are possible in this division. They have this weird belief you can't win every game . Wierdos

As their free kick was being lined up you could see Hendo trying to sort that wall out. What I don’t understand is teams are usually allowed time to do that, but for some reason Hendo seems to be trying to do it while concerned they were about to take it quickly.
2 points less than we deserved yes.

But I tell you this....we will get 2 points more than we deserve a few times this season too.

So, let’s all focus on the positives, those being that we are a good side that creates far more chances than we concede. We can’t win every week, it’s impossible, and short of chucking 30 million at 2 proven strikers who will add that bit extra up top we are looking good for a play off spot at least.

Not up to what? Care to elaborate? I haven't heard the interview.
Missed the critical part, but just said that it was better to rest him or something like that. Billy understood, game on Saturday etc

Key point was that it wasn't just tactical not to play him.

I’m in agreement with you here. I don’t think we retreated like we did at Derby, rather just weathered the inevitable bit of pressure that is expected. I never thought we’d concede from open play. They upped it when they went 1-0 down, which happened to be on 70 mins, a point in the game where substitutions take place and our options, as usual, cannot affect the game in our favour. Not to get into this again, but Duffy’s legs did go yesterday, 100%. Washington was waiting for a few minutes to come on and then suddenly it became a double change, which to me did not look planned.

Our lack of counter attacking pace is going to cause us problems all season. Wolves last year went 1-0 up and then picked teams off on the break to win 2,3,4-0.

If we can’t get up and down the pitch quickly in the last quarter of the game then it is suicidal to overcommit at 1-0 up, which is why I think we see us apparently ‘stop playing’.

We don't or certainly i dont have that belief but if there a table of points dropped from winning position in a calender year. I would be pretty certain that we close if not top of it. We dropped 20+ last season. You would hope we could hold out in closing stages

We were not winning at Derby we 've only to my knowledge dropped points as you put it to stoke this season.since game 1 v swansea

£5M buys Marriot unless you buy off SUFC when £2M would have gotten him.

Got to agree, 4 mins added time and he brings on Coutts and leaves Sharp sat on his arse?!? Like you say bonkers!
He tried to hold onto a 1 goal lead. In that regard, Coutts instead of Sharp was sensible.

But he also tried to hold onto a 1-1 draw on that Saturday. That wasn’t so sensible.

Let’s see how we do v Wigan.

Joe Allen is Premiership class, if anyone else was on that free kick it would not have been a goal. The poor fat lad needed a rest, he had an all you can eat Toby Carvery sunday neet and was still digesting his 48th yorkshire pud.
