Nottingham Forest 3 (Wignall, Baker, Hodgkinson og) Blades 1 (Jones)

After the match Lampiao was autograph hunting outside the players entrance, Bill Punton approached him to sign the book, Lampiao thinking he was the ref said to him "I collect autographs only from players". Bill was unamused and walked away. Lampiao realised his mistake soon after but it was too late! 🤣

Dronfield based Blades including Bob Socks who travelled back from Nottingham to Dronfield by train would be the last passengers to alight a train in Dronfield station before the station was closed until it was re-opened in 1981

We wear the all white kit despite being the home team and Fulham wearing all red (I think)

FA Cup 5th round

Chelsea 2 (Tambling, Hateley) Blades 0

My dad said the players were upset with the cup preparations because players had to travel to the match by train rather than travel by a private coach. Soon after the club decided that the 1st team would travel to away matches in a private coach.

Blades 3 (Jones, Birchenall, Woodward) Aston Villa 3 (Anderson, Stobart 2)

Now I can say "55 years ago today!"

Definitely a match that neither my dad or me went to as we were at my uncle Jim's wedding all day.

We wore red socks in some of the home games for the rest of the season

Didn't go to Arsenal (bit too young), but went with my Dad to watch Forest beat Wednesday at Hillsboro. Forest had a good team and were going for the title. Remember the red banners everywhere as they had fans all over the ground. Also watched them lose to Spurs in the FA Cup semi at Hillsboro. Queued with my uncle on a Sunday morning for 3 hours to get tickets for that from Hillsboro.....

Bert was also in the Sunday morning queue.

Worth it to see Jimmy Greaves score.

Blades 1 (Jones) Man City 0

I love hearing recollection of matches from older Blades. A good mate of mine, Frank Wood (1951-2000) told me in the 1990s that he remembers the above match very well. He said "I was stood in the John Street terraces, just before half time against Man City at the Lane, Mick Jones headed in a Woody corner to put us into the lead.....

..... after the cheering had died down, I looked towards the Kop and I could see in different areas there were punches being thrown, some fans ran for their safety and then there was more fighting, it was the worst I have ever seen and it took a long time before the fighting had stopped! Policemen quickly got into the Kop to try and restore order. St John Ambulance volunteers were very busy trying to get the injured fans out of the way to treat them on the perimeter, there were a lot of bloodied faces"

I was at this game and remember it for 2 reasons. Ken Mallender was at number 8 and playing midfield which I can't remember seeing before and the away kit was also new to me, white with thin red and white bands on the neck and cuffs. I can't remember the goal or score at all just that we won. I think it was around Easter and there was a bit of an end of season feel to the game. It was probably one of the first away games I'd been to and quite possibly my first away win.
