11/7/1966

60 years ago today was the first match of the 1966 World Cup. England drew 0-0 against Uruguay. The whole tournament lasted less than three weeks. This is me with a classmate, Gillian, at the Maud Maxfield school prize day which was usually held in the middle of July. I have no memory of being on the stage that day also I have no memory of the 1966 World Cup despite that my dad taking me to watch the group match between Spain v Switzerland at Hillsborough on Friday evening 15th July (possibly on the same day as the prize day?)
