Are we boycotting the match thread then? Top of the league versus 32 game unbeaten run in the biggest game of the season so far and not a peep

I'll go for 1-1 tonight, although got a horrible feeling our unbeaten run will be the one to end :(

I'm with you IOM, 1-1 for me. Huddersfields away games this season have resulted in draws (Hartlepool, Rochdale and Oldham) so based on these results they are not really a side to fear.

I'd like to think that we could turn them over tonight. We are top of the league for a reason. We've been playing well, are full of confidence and are at home (where we have won all three games and won the last one in style). The crowd will get behind the team and I am sure that Huddersfield will not be looking forard to coming to BDTBL tonight. Let's take the 2nd half of the Scunny performance (or even the whole Bury performance) into tonight and set the standard. It will be a bug test, but I have confidence in Wilson and the players. Let's shut up the doubter and prove we can beat one of the 'better' sides. Blades to win 2-1.

What a cracker we have in prospect. Too footballing teams, both undefeated, both favourites for promotion and a Yorkshire derby. Wish I was going. Enjoy all of you that will be there! :)

Agreed. I think we need to remember we're in the 3rd division so strikers will miss chances and defenders will cock up, if they didn't they wouldn't be playing at this level.

UTB!

I'm looking for a win. Might prove we really have a serious chance to go back up this season.

Has the bubble burst?

The first of the better teams in this division and we lose 3-0 at home.

Hmmmm.......

The other teams we've played haven't been drastically poor.

We were poor tonight though. Too weak in the middle, defence (mainly centrally) struggled. Didn't finish our early chances.

Their 2 forwards were the difference tonight. That and the referees inabiliy to show a card when needed.Alan Lee should not have been on the pitch by the end.

We will still finish above them come May

Alan Lee should not have been on the pitch by the end.

I'd hazard a guess that this comment could be repeated every week throughout his entire career.

He's one of those in the same club as Darren Moore, everyone with an ounce of previous football knowledge knows exactly what he's going to do for 90 minutes, except of course the man with the whistle.

the ref was very poor tonight. That said in my opinion we need a new keeper, a centre half (Harry cant play all season) and a striker (tonight a fit Beattie would have scored at least 2 of the chances we had)

We also need to practice taking corners

Don't blame the man with the whistle!!!

Simonsen - handed their first goal on a plate - poor, poor goalkeeping
2nd and 3rd Goals from set pieces - poor, poor defending
Porter missed an open goal at 0-1 couldn't hit the target from a yard out!
Evans missed a golden opportunity with a 1 on 1 with Bennett
We couldn't convert the opportunities gifted to us !
Quinn can't take a corner kick to save his life! Never beart the first man all night
Bright spot - new signing left back Williams best weve had since Armstrong
Low Spot - we're not as good as most people on here thinks we are !!! Porter, Flynn not good enough
We must get a keeper to replace Simonsen or else we will be also rans this season - he is just not good enough!
Wilson - jury out - not impressed with either after match interview or his signings to Williams looks the exception

Yep Strikers will miss chances and defenders will cock up...
You were talking about United here right?

Ref was awful for both sides tonight
Simmo made too many costly errors
Lowton gave the ball away way too much first half
Saying that, we went forward well, but once again (as at Scunny) the final pass was terrible.
Still, not too disheartened, if the run was to come to and end, I'm glad it was to Huddersfield and not to Orient or someone like that
The season is still young
UTB!

To be fair it was a poor stop and should have been shoved wide. But Benno also dropped the ball in a similar area from Ched's free kick, difference being Huddersfields defender's reacted as well as Cressy, none of our defenders reacted after Simmo spilled the ball. He wasn't solely to blame for the first.

I think DW was spot on last night with his interview. 3 Costly mistakes cost us the game. Refreshing for a Blades manager not to blame something else ie the Ref (who had a shocker)

And, to be fair to Simmo, we were sat bang in line with it on the Kop and the ball was moving all over the place in the air so it wasn't as straightforward as it looks from the side on TV.

As you mentioned, if we'd have had somebody following up Ched's free kick that Benno parried wide we would have scored a similar goal.

We were behind it too and it did move alot. Still need a new keeper though

Benno parried wide is the important bit.

Aye I sit just behind the goal too, but as a keeper you need to still be stronger, it was close enough to Simmo for him to have pushed it out stronger than he did. It was a poor save but even poorer reactions from the defence.

Benno parried wide is the important bit.

The ball landed in almost the exact position as Simmo's parry, Huddersfields defenders reacted to the spill as well.

or someone had actually gambled on him spilling it like nowak did

Cressy did, but their defender reacted equally as quick.

Bit disappointing BladesPlayer don't seem to be showing the full match this time. Would have liked to have a look at it even though we lost.

Just watched the highlights. Some (armchair) thoughts:
- 1st goal: terrible keeping. A tame shot from 30 yards and he pushes it into the danger area. SS could see where Novak was and still flapped it to him. A good keeper would have caught it (or at least pushed it away). Credit should be given to Novak, because as soon as the bill was hit he made a dash for goal. He was inbetween Maguire and Collins (and level) and gambled. By the time Simmonsen saved it was too late for Collins (the nearest man). It was not about reaction it was more about anticipation. Novak gambled and Collins (an experienced defender) should have gone with him and not left him in space. Novak had that extra yard and it was easy.
- Porter's chance: it was slightly behind him, so it was not as criminal as made out. Still a bad miss though. He could have probably have taken a touch tbh. The main thing is hitting the target. You're not going to win the lottery if you don't buy a ticket.
2nd goal: Soft on so may accounts. The initial losinng out of the header, not getting rid of the ball on the 2nd attempt (horrible clearance from Williams - though he was stretching) and then slack marking and a free shot (no block/tackle attempt). Also thought it was close to SS and he might have got a hand/foot in the way, though this may be harsh as it was fired in from close range. The defenders looked sluggish and stationary (for both goals) whilst Novak looked sharp.
3rd goals: Cresswell beaten too easily. A good header, but I would want Cressy doing more to win the ball or at least put him off a bit. Straight through Simmonsen and into the middle of the net. It was coming fast, but what the fuck is he there for if he does not put out an arm or leg to stop it!?
Ched's free kick: The difference again was anticipation. Cresswell does not anticipate the keeper spilling it and reacts. However the defender also reacts. It may be harsh on Cresswell but what you would be looking for would be for the forward to anticpate (or gamble!).
Chances: Even though Ched's one on one is missing it is clear United had chances. A mixture of good keeping, a bit of bad luck and poor finishing meant we didn't score. We could have got back in the game. Imagine if we'd scored, it would have been a completely different game.

They were clearly more clinical and that is the bottom line.
