When “the plan” has seen you getting absolutely out fought and a goal down to a team 2 leagues below you, I think it’s fair for the players to say “fuck it, let’s try something different for ten minutes”.

I don’t believe it’s possible for all our players to be as bad as they were, it very much reminds of that effort teams put in when the dressing room has gone and they’re biding their time until a new guy comes in.

We ended the game with BBD, Bamford, Ayew, Donovan and Cannon in the pitch. Are we really expected to believe each of these to a man is below L2 level? When they’ve been toe to toe with an ex prem team only 3 days ago?

CW lives off excuses. It’s someone else fault, the players, the board, the backroom staff, the fans, take your pick.

One person picks the team and tactics, and that person has been living in the past since last season. How many games did we make teams look like Barcelona last season? And that’s with much better players.

You could even argue we had superior defensive quality in the 92pt season, and enough creative players to make something happen.

I'm a supporter of this club, not the owners, manager or players although that can be elastic depending on events. I say that as I think the team threw selles to the wolves, maybe he was partly responsible but for the players not to turn up and play for the club fucked me off big style, to the extent that I struggle to 'support' most of the team as individual players. It would be karma if the core group of players did to wilder what they did to selles, it was their lack of professionalism opening the door for his return.

I think you’re spot on when you say it’s apathy for the majority. There’s a vocal minority on both sides.

I think people have become numb to it because let’s be honest, we’ve been crap to watch for a few years now. We’ve gone through a cycle of Wilder to Hecky to Wilder (with a minor detour to Slav & Selles). This is what we've become used to now for the past few years & we seem to have accepted as a fanbase that we’ll never have a young, dynamic team or an unheard of coach who takes us forward. Our collective mindset is we need someone who ‘gets’ the club & a bunch of battlers in the squad.

Combine that with the shambles from the board & probably a general apathy towards modern football in general from some. We know that even if we did get promoted again we can’t compete in the Prem against the massive wage bills, VAR etc. So even the end goal isn’t motivating when we’ve seen our last 2 ‘attempts’ at staying up go so horrendously.

We’re in a bit of a perfect storm of crap currently and we need to ride it out, avoid relegation and clear the decks.

I've said for a while now the club needs a reset from Bettis downwards, because we have owners who aren't "day to day " involved, I honestly think Bettis does run the financial side quite well, but he's not a football man which brings us to the "controversial " DOF discussions ? ,if we do eventually go down this road it has to be someone who has really good contacts across the continent at least and the experience to develop the academy and first team support staff. But don't get involved with the footballing style of whoever is coach at the time.

This annoys me. 442 is clearly not the answer in the league and switching to a back five on Sunday suggests that Wilder knows it. Last night was an ideal opportunity to see how a back five might work against lesser opposition and gives players a low pressure fixture to get used to playing in it.
I see no advantage to playing in a formation we have no intention of using in the league.

I think some of it is just a case of the ‘old school’ management style being outdated and not working any more in 2026. The game is always moving forward with modern times whether we all like it or not and I think the age of the ‘manager’ who runs a club from top to bottom with that tubthumping siege mentality style is/has gone so we’ll never recreate that time from 10 years ago.

We are being outplayed tactically by every team we come up against. They watch us for 10 minutes and see we can’t play through them and just hit the channels for Cannon. All they have to do is press us high and either force errors or make us kick is back to them. We have no pace in midfield to get across the pitch or screen the back four so it’s so easy to create overloads against us or isolate our full backs one on one.


There’s a reason Dyche, Allardyce, Pardew and Pulis do podcasts and adverts about days gone by and don’t manage anymore. I think sadly Wilder is probably one of the ones now being left behind.

Add to that, players dont need there 'goal, win or playing' bonus nowadays, because they are paid that much.

The managers responsibility in managing is getting less and less imo.

I guess thats why more teams are going down the 'head coach' role now?

that performance last night stank of a group of players who don’t believe in what they’ve being asked to do, don’t want to do what they’re being asked to do and don’t particularly want to play for their manager.

At this point of the season - what you see on the pitch is a replication of what they’re being asked do on the training ground. So it would appear training is bang average, there’s no real plan or identity.
