When strikers are struggling to score goals (a cause for concern at the Lane in recent years), people often say something along the lines of ‘He just needs one to go in off his backside, and the goals will follow’. Ndiaye scored a perfect backside goal v Blackburn, and it did not take long for him then to score a truly great goal. But was it his first goal that was truly exceptional? I can’t think of any other goal scored by a United player with his backside. Any recollections? (And no references to Anel, please🤣)

The concept is bollox
Nah but I think the whole point is it doesn't matter how it's scored as long as it gets them off the mark and breaks the dry spell. If McB or Brewster bagged one this weekend from some weird scramble in the box and it hit their shoulder and went in it will change their mentality.

We all need some believe in ourselves sometimes

It is bound to be a psychological boost. McBurnie had several close-range efforts, and all were blocked by defenders or goalkeepers. Ndiaye could have stopped Utd scoring, but fortunately (or deliberately?) deflected it past the keeper; no wonder his confidence was sky-high to set off on a run from inside his own half. The margins between success and failure are fine, and affect the psychology of the player.

Hockey scored an own goal off his backside in our 5-1 win against Cardiff in 1971

How about our 2nd goal v Brighton in 1989? Came off Brian Deane's backside?

Just look at Norwood after the free kick, I only saw the highlights but he had two long range efforts after that and even had the audacity to try and beat the keeper from the halfway line.

If the confidence in this squad sky rockets we could be a team all of the division fear. I know they all do their due diligence on the other teams but they may be looking at some of our players differently after the last couple of performances.

Not sure that it is worth detailed analysis, but it looks more like his thigh than his backside… He was certainly good at scoring unorthodox goals.

Going back a bit but didn't Martin Peters score with his nose once?

I once scored an own goal showing a lass my bum hole on a first date. I'm not sure this is about that though. She didn't ask to see it, but I ike to get stuff done. :/
