So, the pre-season dust is settling, and the real work starts now.

If Oli McB and other(s) appear before we rub up against some Bristols next Saturday we may be a bit different from what we have seen so far, but....

....6 friendlies v York, Rotherham, Burton, Chez, Nice and Fulham....

....Scored 22 and conceded 9 – average 3.7 for and 1.5 against, 5.2 goals per game!

If we average 5 goals a game in the actual season we could be in for some exciting times!!

Last season we scored 63 goals against an XG of 63 and conceded 36 against an XGA of 49.7.

Our defensive performances will define the coming season.

We conceded an average 0.78 goals per game last season and 1.5 per game in our 6 friendlies this year. We have looked sloppy at the back. With Barrie, Brooks and Campbell in front of Hamer and O’Hare we will score goals, but with a leaky backside you’re in the shit!

Anyway, Table 1 is my forecast of how the season will end – 3rd place again! Actually, I think it will be very tight between us and Southampton – but I watched Birmingham beat Forest today, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they jumped above both us and The Saints and finished second. TB12 has an amazing effect wherever he goes – Patriots to Buccaneers to Raiders to Birmingham – he is the consummate professional – the GOAT of all GOATS.

I’ll do my usual plots each week – Graph 1 will compare with my benchmarks for Autos, Playoffs and Possible Playoffs – this uses my predicted final table to judge form for the result against our actual opponent each game. I’ve used 92 points as Autos again – I don’t think we’ve got 2 teams like Leeds and Burnley this season – but maybe it’s us who really catches fire this time, and blows the rest away!

Graph 2 will compare against 3 of our recent seasons – I’ve given Chris 92 points for last season, as the comparison is against form on the pitch – not net points.

I’ll do some stuff with XG’s and XG Tables as we go along as well – as that can indicate teams whose performances are better or worse than their results. It’s also useful in predicting the next game’s results.

2-1 or 3-1 Blades next Saturday.

So, once again,
UTB & Slava Ukraini!

Looking forward to it all. Many thanks.

I think BTTS bets are gonna print money this season

Brilliant stuff GraphMan - really feels like the season is close when you start doing lines (whoops!)!

Great graph my 2 predictions are that 1.Wrexham will be higher in the league table 2. selles will not let the season out

I'm predicting 6th. Selles looks to be a decent manager and we have a good squad but there are at least five teams that look better on paper.

Great, play offs again it is then. Like the look of the bottom of the table though but would like to see Welsh upstarts Wrexham replace Oxford.

Squad capable already of top 3 or 4, with Ipswich and Soton top two. Bit of real quality in and we’ll bridge that gap.

Just hope the board back Ruben as he appears to be a very talented manager and if we don’t go up, I imagine we’re looking at a big turnover of players with the best prospects moving on.

Excited for the new season. Our fortunes rest on how good the Ownership is, ‘twas ever thus as a Blade. 🙄😂

Way too early for season predictions. The end of the window when we can predict our (and others) first 11. But would agree BTTS, hopefully we can get some starting CBs.

You have to rank teams if you’re going to predict Blades’ performance against them.

Nice stuff. Always the highlight of my week (after Roy's view from obviously).

Caught up with a Southampton mate on the wknd and he's not confident at all so will he interesting who'll wrestle with Ipswich all season. I think Birmingham will be no surprise this season and finish top 2.

I think we'll start really well. Keep it up, but like a lot of teams in the Championship who play a high energy, high press game without a deep enough squad, we'll get knackered around about late January and end up around about six.

The litmus test for Selles is whether or not he can have the team grinding out those mid week back to back games away at the likes of Swansea

Good post.

Brum could surprise a few and make the top 2.

Url will be pushing that lot for bottom place.

I think Wednesday will have a big impact this season if they aren't able to keep going.

What happens? all games played and scheduled called a draw?

assume if that happened, they would get 24th by default then causing there to be only 2 relegation positions?

if games don't go ahead, their opposition gets a week off. could be useful mid March!

I know its not happened yet but seems a long way to somehow them operating each week.

If they can't keep going their results (if there are any) will get expunged, but I don't see that happening personally.

As it stands today, my prediction is between 5th and 10th. Defensive reinforcements are required even before potential Anel transfer.... waiting for the let's muddle through to end of window and look for PL loans.

Five loan players went back. As of now, Vini, Moore sold, Brewster gone, and reports today suggest Anel on his way. My Maths never been brilliant, but that means 9 out, just 2 loans in, 1 nearly done, so 6 players light. So we now need 2 strikers, 1 CDM, 2/3 CB(if Anel goes), and the season starts Saturday. Despite all the optimism, we are weaker than last season, as of now. I know the transfer window is still open, and hopefully more signings will follow, but i worry for our August fixture's.

i dont fancy ipswich at all, they dont push my buttons, dont excite I think Coventry look a better bet

year we came up with 100 points we finished 10th
cant understand why Birmingham are being showered with so much praise, saw them lose at northampton last week, looked awful

all results get expunged , ie never happened owls record disappears
any points clubs get when they fold are taken away
