Could the play offs be still on?

Have you already forgotten what the Weir era looked like?
Remarkable ....go back 6 yrs and fans were to blame for moaning about Blackwell and his torpor inducing football. Now Adkins is ok cos we are safe from relegation to division 4.

Gills losing 2-0. If only we'd managed to score last Saturday, they'd be a point worse off and we'd have two more (presuming they lose).

Oh well.

If we win all our games yes it should be enough for 6th on 74pts but its a pretty big IF . I was laughing with utd fan at work that It would be absolutely typical utd the 1 year its been a disaster wrote off any chance of promotion by 1st mar will be the year we will miraculously nick 6th & win playoffs

I really can't see a win on Tuesday. We may have a slim chance of nicking 6th, but Shrews are in a relegation scrap and will gain confidence from our inconsistency. Drawn with Bradford today.

I'd love us to beat the Dingles next weekend though, whatever happens.

Win our last 4 games and we have about an even chance of finishing 6th imo

I don't hold out any hope but when I saw the league table just now and realised Gillingham have to go to Rochdale next weekend it did make me wonder. If only we had scored last weekend.

Opportunities present themselves and we can't seize the day. Our players don't have it in them when the pressure is on....proved by the fact that they have started to turn out performances when the pressure has been off.

We will finish 7th on goal difference, at most one point away. Mark my words.

Last 10 yrs, play off 6th place data

14/15 Chesterfield 69
13/14 Peterborough 74
12/13 Swindon 74
11/12 Stevenage 73
10/11 Bournemouth 71
09/10 Huddersfield 80
08/09 Scunthorpe 76
07/08 Southend 76
06/07 Oldham 75
05/06 Swansea 71

I doubt 6th will get less than 74 points, Gillingham just need 2 wins and if they mess up then Barnsley and Rochdale can quite possibly outdo us.
It's a possibility but it's slim. Would be great though!

That's United for you.

We'll probably go on to win promotion in the most unexciting, uninspiring, desperately disappointing season known to man in the history of the game.

And that's the story of this season, a season of too many abject surrenders and 'what ifs?'. Let's face it, we don't deserve to get in the play-offs. Adkins is having a 'Louis Van Gaal' season - doing just enough to keep the demons at bay. Let's finish strongly and build on.

Maybe if we looked closer to home and put in cheeky bids for Coppinger (Donnie), Winnall or Hourihane (Barnsley) or Ariyibi (Chezzie)???

I hope you're not suggesting buying other league one clubs best players?

That would be ridiculous.

Just ask Wolves.

74 points has got 6th in 16 of the 27 play off seasons.

The rub is can United get to 74?

I can see Millwall getting more than this but Gillingham and Bradford have some very loseable games and United have a better goal difference than Bradford.

Not inconceivable that
Gillingham lose at Rochdale
Bradford lose at Coventry
Bradford lose to Walsall
Gillingham beat Shrewsbury

That places them both on 71 points. United winning the next two would see us on 68.

Bradford then has Southend away and Chesterfield at home.

Gillingham has Burton away and Millwall at home.

Barnsley are away at Wigan last day.

It's conceivable that at least one team in the top 6 will finish on 74 points.

United have no margin. Win then all.

All United can do is win the next game and then go again.

our big set back though is our poor goal difference
Its United through and through to win all 4 finish level on 74 points with gillingham and miss out as they stand 10 goals better off now and its worth a point
so gillingham would have to fail to win 3 of 4

if we can win all our games we could should make it as history says 76 points would put us in it as others wont make that
if we lose just one more 73 is far less likely to achieve it
5 wins and a draw and 74 would be the minimum we would need , unless 3 or 4 teams collapse

when we have made play offs our final 6 results have never been great
teams wobble under the pressure now more than anytime in the season
Next season .... possibly.

we nearly take Barnsley out by winning all 4, if they draw 1 too so just need rochdale to lose 1

We just need one freak result for the play offs still to be on. Basically, if we win and Barnsley slip up against Colchester next weekend it all goes to the last day. I can't see Gillingham getting anything at Burton. Colchester are relegated and have nothing to play for, but that might free up the tension and allow them to play more freely.

If Barnsley and Gillingham both get points deductions for fielding ineligible players, it could yet be on. But we need to beat Scunthorpe at home.

crikey that is really clutching at straws mate
its over. it was on the first day. no excuses now

What really hurts today is that neither Barnsley or Gillingham won, and they both have tough games next Saturday. If we'd have taken 3 points today we would have had a chance on the last day.

There could still be a slim chance of the play-offs, as Gillingham could be the ones to drop out. If we beat Gillingham at home on Saturday, we would only be 6 points behind them. And their run-in isn't easy:

Blades away (8th)
Walsall home (3rd)
Port Vale home
Rochdale away
Shrewsbury home
Burton away (2nd)
Millwall home (6th)

So, even though Millwall and Southend were seen as our last chances, could Gillingham be our real our final shot?

Playoffs are finished now mate...Wednesday booked their slot you goon!
