Could the play offs be still on?

We have to win every single game. That's not something we've done all season. Win 6 in a row though and there's a small chance

A good rule of thumb is to look at the games remaining and the points needed to catch up. If there are more points needed than games, it probably won't happen. Over any given amount of games, a team will catch a point a game on average, according to my rough, ad hoc, completely unquantifiable research.

We have 6 games left, and 8 points to go. It's not gonna happen. It's also worth noting (as others already have) that to reach 6th now would require us to go on a winning run we haven't seen the likes of since August, and for the 2 teams above us to capitulate, both of these requirements are showing no signs of happening.

On the other side of things, Leicester crossed the desired threshold yesterday, on a weekend I feel will be looked back upon as the deciding weekend in this season's Premier League title race, as they now stand 7 points clear with 6 games to go. The Champagne is on ice across the Midlands.

Who's up for Port Vale away next season then lads?

Not that I think it will happen, but there would be a delicious irony in us sneaking in the playoffs at Gillingham's expense, given the first day of the season.

If we win every game and get in the play offs I will streak across Wembley when we get there, wearing only a bobble hat, and a discreetly placed pendant
a big pendant obviously
No half & half scarf? ;)

2011-12 : 3 games go to, second placed United 4 points ahead of 3rd placed Wednesday :-(

We're absolutely shit at winning matches at the end of the season when there's something to play for. I can't ever remember us winning when we've needed to.

Failed against Wigan ('07), Southampton ('08) and Crystal Palace ('09) on the final day just off the top of my head.

I created this thread last season showing how shit we are going into the play-offs.

If I recall correctly, even a win in 07-08, and 08-09 would not have been enough anyway given results elsewhere.

True but we still needed to win and failed.

When we lost to Southampton on the final day in 2007-08 it relegated Leicester to the third tier for the first time in their history. They drew 0-0 at Stoke who were promoted to the Premier League for the first time. Blades legend Barry Hayles was leading the line for Leicester.

Funny old game.

can only remember hull only winning 2=0 at burnley when they needed 3=0 going in our favour

and beating cardiff 5=1 to go up when we had to win in 71

There you go then. Payback for them cheating in 02-03 :)

Threads like this help you to lose grasp of reality temporarily.

Never mind everyone else. We need to win 7 games on the spin including Walsall. We're struggling to string two together.

Best case we'll win all our home games.

Then we have to win 3 games away when haven't we won only 5 all season.

It would be a refreshing change but there's probably little chance.

Just done a predictor league thing (bizarrely on the Grimsby Town 'Fishy' site (?) and based purely on other team's recent form and Blades winning every remaining game, then we will finish 5th (level points with Bradford in 6th). Walsall and Millwall miss out.

So, to answer the question.....probably not!

http://www.thefishy.co.uk/calc.php

I was gonna say, that implies we (Millwall) are in bad form, when in fact we are currently 5th in the form table.

And on paper have a decent run-in - Shrewsbury (H), Coventry (a), Fleetwood (H), Bury (a), Oldham (H) and Gillingham (a).

I think we have too much fight in us to let you overtake us, in those last 6 games.

I agree with the first poster about Gillingham being the one to catch. I have some Gills mates & they reckon the long hard season has taken its toll on their small squad & goals are now looking hard to come by with Dack injured & Norris a bit hit & miss at moment.

Although, they seemed a very resilient side & could grind out the results to stay in there & then even go up!

Like I've said to lot many times, I honestly cannot believe you've found yourself in this position. We were expecting a transitional season with an outside chance of the play-offs...so in a way I guess we are kinda occupying a spot in the top 6 left spare by you lot!

Gills recent form is 13 points from 10 games. Even if we beat them and their poor form continues, they will take another 6-7 points from 5 games, putting them out of sight unless we win every game

Gillingham 0-0 Coventry

Bury 0-1 Gillingham

Southend 1-1 Gillingham

Gillingham 3-0 Crewe

Scunthorpe 0-0 Gillingham

Fleetwood 2-1 Gillingham

Gillingham 1-2 Chesterfield

Oldham 2-1 Gillingham

Gillingham 2-1 Barnsley

Gillingham 0-0 Swindon

Yeah, not sure how this predictor works regarding recent form (but it is from a Fishy site!).
FWIW I think Millwall will have more than enough to get in the play-offs.

Plus the small fact that, of the teams above us, Walsall have 2 games in hand of us and Gillingham & Hillsborough North have one each.

Millwall/Gills final, Millwall get promoted even as 100's brawl in the stands after they go 1-0 down. Gregg Wallace frolicks through the streets of Bermondsey, Byron Burger in hand, until the pink morning light breaks across London.
