I'd definitely agree with this. Being better at this level is not rocket science - you need a core of hard, determined young players reinforced by 'wise old heads'. Most teams who come to the Lane have this and that's why most of them go away with a result. It really should be easy - show them the stadium, the crowds and - if that doesn't impress them - take them for a drive around the Peak District. Think they'd want to go to Wigan or Walsall then?
We missed a trick the other year when Donnie beat us at the Lane. Anybody could see that Rob Jones was exactly the kind of player we needed. Probably more than Maguire.
No excuses next season.
Donny didn’t beat us at the lane last year. We won 3-1 earlier this season and 3-2 last season. In fact, we’ve won our last four games against Donny since they came down. I think we drew both games against them in 2012-13 when they went up. We’ve not lost to them since we were in the championship if my memory serves me correctly.
Agree though that a Rob Jones type centre half is handy at this level. Nigel Adkins also held that opinion when he signed him for Scunny to get them promoted.
