So one would think that it would take another substantial figure (in the low millions at least) to kick on next season? I'm not sure how likely that would be if they think the intial 10 million should have been enough.

Really, it should have been. It's L1. Regardless of wage reductions, it's probable they'll need to pump £4-5m in next year just to cover losses and keep the doors open, before any spending on the team.

Rather than saying they've put nothing in, the real worry is that they stop, or can't carry on funding. If United kept me awake at night it would be that rather than any ongoing animosity towards McCabe.

I agree £10million should have been enough if invested wisely.

We have the biggest gates thus presumably amongst the biggest revenue. Adding £10million to the mix should have given us enough of an advantage. But then I don't know how much the chairmen of Wolves, Brentford, Bristol, Wigan etc. pumped in.

He had to put ten million in for half the shareholding. I expect they thought that would be enough to get us to the next level. I doubt they thought they'd have to put more in before we were in the Championship. Delusion on a WHF level.

The "certain amount" is simply a guess as to the reality of the situation. Nobody knows.

The Club wasn't sold for a pound. Half of Blades Leisure Ltd was. Pedantic but true.

Don't tell Woodwardfan ..he'll have you marked as bullshitter ;)

It really should have been enough shouldn't it? So based on the figures you mention, it's going to take a similar amount next season, assuming such an amount is forthcoming.

Mikael Mandron is on that list.

Has banged them in for Sunderland reserves but struggled on loan spells in the lower leagues as a teenager. Still though, 6"3 and reasonably quick. Could be worth a punt if Sunderland decide to release him?

Players will be sold to pay the remaining players wages, Brayford to burton, Adams to anybody, like Murphy money, confirmed by mcabe..

There's no further investment from mcabe... He said this last season.

The prince (remember him?) will not invest till we are in the championship.. As told by Kevin mcabe..

Phipps, we will need three transfer windows more, having bought nobody in January, lets now call hat four shall we?..

Now we are not going up, expect the pant wetting exodus of the abject failures who blunder about the pitch in our shirts to not materialise, instead the club will retain first grade wankers like Woolford, mceverly, Edgar, Hammond, even the invisible dieago, hell, even the walking dead (curvellier) might scrape another deal so he can hang about the training ground, why, because we can negotiate cheap as chips deals with these out of contract players, as we know no other fucker wants them.. And as the players knew all along, should we go up then it was career over, maybe that's why we've been inconsistent....

It looks like the only scenario where the players would have any chance of another contract they don't deserve has actually materialised....Funny that isn't it..

We will not see any action from the board of this club until season ticket sales plummet, the board will not act until they absolutely have to act, they are happy crying poverty whilst talking about promotion and the cold facts are that success in football costs big time, money that we have been clearly told will not be forthcoming.....

Adkins, he's just a yes man picking a wage up, anyway let's be united together and roll on down the lane in the tens of thousands, because if we didn't the wendys will slag us over attendances...

Worst time in 28 years that I've been going...

Just my opinion but it's based on previous financial results. If gates drop, maybe even more. Or should I say "when"?

Nailed on. And for those who think we don't need Championship players to go up, think on. To be promoted, you need more than half your team to be playing well above the level the team is at. It's common sense. To stay there (and we need to remain in the Championship for quite some time to stabilise) we need the whole team playing at that level to keep us away from the trapdoor.

If we go up, then come straight back down this club is finished and will stagnate and drop further.

You'd think they will drop at some point wouldn't you? I find it pretty mind boggling they are where they are at right now.

"and the fact that we need a Championship squad to go up"

I have to disagree, we do not need a Championship squad to go up, we need a good league 1 squad made up of good players from this league and very good players from league 2.

Get rid of the high earners we currently have bring in players described above for nominal fees/wages.

This should be doable, even with the present owners, but I can only see us messing this up again.

Hard to disagree with that. Filling the side with "good L1" players sounds good but they'd likely be contracted while we were in the league above and if they can't step up are a drain on resources. The best scouts in the country aren't going to get a L1 squad together and all of them will improve enough for championship football. Not to stay in there as you say.

I think they might actually gone up slightly
Which is bizarre...

Totally agree. This close season is going to be pivotal to our forseeable future. The problem as I see it, the type of players we need are surely going to have plenty of other options. To them, we are just an option rather than a great name and club, they will go where the money is. Deep pockets and some testicular fortitude is required from those in charge of our club.

It does seem bizarre doesn't it? That being said, I also go to the Ice Hockey and sometimes the crowd is padded out with reduced tickets or even freebies to school groups. I wonder if that is the case at the Lane? To be fair it's a strategy I sort of agree with, as I'd be hoping they'd be spending on other things whilst they were there. I would have said I hoped they'd catch the bug in terms of supporting United, probably the wrong term given they way we've played!

When did McCabe say he and the prince won't invest any more? DO you have a link? I only remember McCabe saying the club needed to cut costs and be self sufficient before the prince came on board. I've not heard anything since saying there will be no more investment.

Talented young players who come through L1,L2 will progress to the championship Bassetts side proved that.
Theres a few who played for Chesterfield last season who are doing well in the Championship.

Hmm. That's like comparing Bassett's side to John Harris's. Football is a bit different to the late eighties and early nineties these days.

Here's a question LE. Why aren't they playing for us, right now?

He's obviously never seen 'The Vampire Lovers' with Ingrid Pitt. That woman still causes tremors in my groinacular region.

Not everyone will fill the mold, but I think tall, fit, fast and strong young players are what's needed, along with three experienced players (minimum) in the spine of the team. A take-no-prisoners hard nut in the centre of defence, a take-no-prisoners hard nut in the middle of the park and a take-no-prisoners hard nut up front with Billy. All three of them at least six foot tall, fast and strong.

Not saying any of the above are easy to find, but if if other teams can do it, so can we.

I don't know if any players think of playing for SUFC as a "dream job" anymore, so we need a vision to attract them and that is where McCabe and the Prince have to come in, and paint a picture of where this club is going, what ambition it has, how we are going to get there, why getting on board now and being part of it is in the players best interest.

Can we do that? ........

I'd definitely agree with this. Being better at this level is not rocket science - you need a core of hard, determined young players reinforced by 'wise old heads'. Most teams who come to the Lane have this and that's why most of them go away with a result. It really should be easy - show them the stadium, the crowds and - if that doesn't impress them - take them for a drive around the Peak District. Think they'd want to go to Wigan or Walsall then?

We missed a trick the other year when Donnie beat us at the Lane. Anybody could see that Rob Jones was exactly the kind of player we needed. Probably more than Maguire.

No excuses next season.

Didn't Adkins more or less achieve this at Southampton?

Don't think so, squad much the same as Pardews, from his signings I think only Chaplow made more than a handful of appearances. Do Prado was on loan prior to Adkins signing him and academy players were utilised.

Was the £10million figure publicly quoted?

View attachment 16894

No it wasn't. There was no specified amount because it was always going to be a moving feast. The £10m first tranch and half of the £8m are sums to date and the moving feast will only become a known amount when we get to the Premier League which was the target mentioned when the prince joined us.

Half the club change hands for "£1 plus the promise of providing substantial new capital with the aim of returning the Blades to the Premier League as soon as possible." The eventual amount could be any number and the time scale goodness knows when.
