I've never felt this kind of relief over a player leaving. He's come to symbolise everything I hate about my club and its current predicament. There was one time when he showed a bit of passion in a post match interview and I questioned whether I'd been wrong about him. But I wasn't. You amassed an extraordinary amount of appearances, most of which you gave sub 4/10 displays. You've been a huge factor in our demise, whilst berating all around you and never once taking any responsibility. Good riddance, Collins.

My God, he was terrible. Mark my words, in 10 years time we will still remember him and talk about him. He's in there with Marlon King and Lee Hendrie (for different reasons) in my list of "players that represent everything shit about our clubs recent history."

I have said this for years , if I was manager every player would spend time with Garrett or rooker and be taught the tradition and history of Sheffield United accompanied by some real fans like any of us or foxy and a pig to show what the rivalry and city is all about and an ex player who has the passion. Might nip into the butchers and pick up a pair of bollocks too.

Happens now and again, but no where near as much as it should.

Some shameful comments in here. Maybe he wasn't good enough, but that isn't his fault. One thing you could say about Collins that you couldn't about hardly any of the squad we have now was that he gave everything when he pulled on the shirt. Good luck to the bloke.

Oooo, let me guess.

That big bad Nigel Adkins let our cult hero go. Our biggest ever crowd favourite since, er, Johnny Ertl.
Poor old Collo always gave 100% and yet the idiot-moron-wanker-tosspot Adkins cast him aside.

Adkins out!

Am I right Barney?

Do you use that butcher in Royston Vasey?

Well as long as he's always got supporters like you defending his every move.

So that means.......?

I think Adkins should be given more time. This season has been abysmal but he inherited an overpaid squad of wasters. Collins was one of these.

Not sure why you might think that defending 'our Collo' is such a good idea.

I don't defend his 'every move' but equally I do not critiscise every last little thing he does. Can you say that?

I'm not defending him. I'm pointing out the obvious ridiculousness in paying up a player when he has a contract that runs out in a few months, making him available for use in the mean time.

Should have done this months ago. Rubbish player for all his tears and a bully boy. Accepts no blame for his own shitness yet has the audacity to blame someone else for his mistakes.

Because he also plays so deep it means we can't press high up the pitch because it makes the pitch bigger.

Not that this helps your agenda against Adkins. Can I ask if Collins has played since baptiste has turned up? If not can you tell us all why we might miss him again?

I just don't see the point in getting rid of a player we can potentially use where ever needed whilst in contract. Then when he's out of contract in a matter of months, we could have got rid of him any way, which, along with all but Long out of contract, I definitely would have wanted.

I thought that last season in the play offs when he was available. I have to admit I was wrong. He's wank and I would rather play a kid. If we need someone for a game we have Kennedy. It really isn't the big deal you're trying to make it be

Never been a fan. He's slow and makes too many basic errors.

Being balanced he was get really good in the air and could score from set pieces.

Overall, over 5 years, not good enough. Liked to play deep cause of his lack of pace and that has been a problem since he arrived. Here's to better times. Clink

Even if its true he's been a disruptive presence in the dressing room?

If he's disruptive, you have to wonder why the hell Adkins has been playing him. Though to be honest, you have to kinda wonder that even if he isn't. The 'couldn't find anybody to improve the team' line comes straight from the Great Big Book of Unconvincing Lies.

Yes, I think there are ways around that like training separately or simply giving it the Clough treatment and completely isolating him from the club until needed in the squad. That way it's like he isn't playing for us but he's there to be called upon if needs be.

That worked really well didn't it. I think you must have Adkins' OCD as Clough wanted rid as well but couldn't find a way. Adkins did. If he got us promoted I doubt you would give Adkins any credit and this lack of objectivity undermines all of your myopic musings.

Which is the better option?

A) - Not playing for the club at all.
B) - The situation being as if he isn't playing for the club, but can be called upon if needed. Contract not renewed at the end of the season.

I can't see how anyone would prefer the first over the second.

Does anyone have any fond memories of Collins? Granted my memory is poor, but I'm struggling.

I'll stop short of calling him names (which isn't something I've done whilst watching him play), but he really is dog shit at football.

Good luck to him, anyway.

Confirmed - one of the best things I've read on here.

Baptiste I believe is on a 3 year contract probably on a decent wedge and 30, add Hammond 30+ also on decent money it doesn't make financial sense and certainly no chance of a resale return. More importantly it doesn't fit with NA saying he has identified young hungry athletic footballers, unless he's telling porkies. How many 30+ footballers do we need.

Those two are only on loan until the end of the season, chill

Oh I've no doubt whatsoever on here now this albatross round the clubs neck will end up being remembered as a 3rd Division Bobby Moore just like them splay footed twats Doyle and Mongy are revered as Maradonas and Peles by some.

I'm fucking sick of "yes but they give 100%" well so they fucking should, give me 5 grand a week and I will!

We need people who can play football .

I'd give 100% for nowt yer greedy twat.

Weren't you calling for a mass paying off of contracts at the start of the season, when I pointed out that your suggestion that we cull the squad was far easier than it sounded?

20 pages and counting for the player that symbolises SUFC's darkest period in my lifetime. Been a mainstay of a side getting worse and worse.

One post / summary would have been enough! No seriously have to repeat a lot of what others have said.

Slow, clumsy, error ridden and his weaknesses meant the whole defence and side played 10-15 yards further back for years. Often blamed others when he was worse than most. He cried a bit a few times which seemed to keep him in good faith with a few fans but sadly he was simply not good enough. Incredible he remained for 5 years. He had one ok season alongside Maguire but I still felt in that side he was one of the weak links. Since then should have been moved on years ago.

Just a poor, poor player. Today is a start to moving towards a better future. Sadly we have another 10-15 to get shut off too. Hopefully Baxter on Monday and then slowly by June/July we will have got rid of most of the rest too.

In my heart I agree with this sentiment but if you think it's even worth bothering anymore you're mistaken.

Football ain't a community sport anymore. The history and traditions of clubs don't mean squat. People and particularly professional footballers don't care about things like that. If you've got the money to bring in good players you'll do well, if you haven't you won't. That's all there is to it. Anything else about our club's identity doesn't drive those with the power to change things. They know nothing about the values of the club and its fans and they will never bother to learn about it.

With every call for Currie, Deane and Warnock I feel like our club is more stuck in the past and not seeing the attitude and outlook required to move forward. We can be good ol' Shefful Yooonitid and stay where we are or we can become another franchise in a different kit and try to join the elite. Our club has an old fashioned attitude and it doesn't help matters.

Another good Deadbat report

Off the field, he's one of the best blokes we've had in recent years. I'll remember the banter with him at Ilkeston away in pre season. Not good enough though as far as the passion gets you.
