Decision 100% spot on...timing of it...???

Adkins has given up on this season...but then I had a long time ago, so I can't really grumble...

Dear Nigel, no more old tossers on the way down please mate..

Presumably the timing is due to Collins receiving an offer and being prepared to leave. Otherwise he'd have been happy to sit out his contract.

Makes me wonder if Collins was really the player who wasn't following instructions that Adkins was referring to after the Burton match.

Could be that Collins has not been playing as they were sorting out the cancelling of his contract and also his deal with Tampa?

I think the problem with the 100% thing is that sometimes, 100% of not very much is still not very much. You have to have some talent in the team to complement players like that.

So speaking for myself, yes I want 100 percenters, but they've got to be able to play a bit too. How Collins lasted 5 years is as baffling to me as the fad for Prosecco.

I told you this would happen. Again.

I'm now taking bets on the next player to have his contract terminated.....I wonder who.

Dunno, but just for a change I might have soup for tea. Baxters?

People being a bit harsh maybe. Probably not so much a crap player, as miles over the hill. It's not his fault we don't know what the feck we're doing as a club. He should have been released 3 years ago. You're a long time retired, of course you are going to take the new contract if it's offered.

For once i am glad that the club has shown some ambition and fucked him off. I guess American Football is about his level.

I'd like to thank Neil Collins for the memories, but i'd be lying. The guy had one decent season when Harry was alongside him

Nigel Clough took his time, but he saw that he was a bad influence and a shit player. Nigel Adkins has seen the same, despite giving him a clean slate, Collins has proved that he is not fit to play League 1 football time and time again and of course he has now proved, beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is not the type of character we want or need playing in the white shirt of Sheffield United

I've never wanted any other player out of the club more than i wanted Collins out, the only one that came close was Marlon King.

Well done United - Adkins, McCabe, Prince et al for shifting this piece of work.

Probably three or four if the rest are going to be youngsters. Proper solid pros though, who understand what it takes to achieve and who can lead and encourage the younger players.
Yes that's my take on Baptiste BushBlade experience is needed along side youth, unless we go up I don't think he will stay as he would want championship or even premier football with Middlesborough not 1st division. But he will be excellent for the rest of this season.

After the PFA process has been completed, he's next out the door.
That's if there's no surprises in the B sample.
Should be a couple of days.
"Well.. you'll never guess what happened. I was at my Columbian mate Pablo's house and i was making a cup of Coffee. I put in a spoonful of sugar and could sleep all night"

If they have fucked Collins off then it shows Clough was right to drop him totally.

Strange thing is why Clough put Collins on the retained list or did we have to exercise the option of an extra year?

Clough tight to drop him and give him a contract.
I think you need to think that one through again fellah , your Clough love in seems to have clouded your judgement!
Adkins, unlike Clough, got the replacement in before pulling the trigger. To be fair to Clough though Adkins had a better chance of pulling it off due to the remaining length of contract, but it still had to be handled.

If this is true he also actually got rid of him instead of hoping months of sidelining with alleged injuries would tempt him to go to Carlisle United or other clubs via the Blades old boys network. Collins preferred not to play for a long time, turning down several loan moves until he finally succumbed.

Clough's isolation strategy and "half-truths" re alleged injuries to Collins ended up allowing him to be portrayed as a martyr and I'm sure his isolated presence was a running sore during the last months of Clough's reign culminating in us playing 5' 8" Alcock at CH because we had no-one.

Thank you for your services and your commitment Mr. Collins. No disrespect but times move on. All things must end and the future of SUFC is at stake. You are not in that future.

Our slim chances of promotion (be honest we need miracles) are unlikely to be weakened by his departure, especially as he would have known there was no new contract coming his way. If we only save 20% of what we would have shelled out if we had waited till the end of the season it won't be an insignificant amount as he had a championship contract. I suspect he would have been gone earlier except for the late arrival of his replacement and a suitable exit door found.

If this allows us to play a higher line that is also good as draws are no good for us if miracles are to happen. And if he is an unwanted influence in the dressing room (why else would he be in the council of players or whatever its called - keep your friends close, keep your enemies closer) the air may be a little sweeter there and we may see a benefit. Players will also know that nice Nigel is also not as soft as some take him for.

Not rocket science in the end but well done to those involved. Finally.

Spot on!
An excellent rational post in a sea of bile and hatred.
As some have pointed out the combination Harry and Collins was for a couple seasons the stand out CB pairing in this division.
They were an outstanding partnership with good coverage for each other, less anyone forgets!
Best outcome now for the club and the player to go their separate ways.

Oh I've no doubt whatsoever on here now this albatross round the clubs neck will end up being remembered as a 3rd Division Bobby Moore just like them splay footed twats Doyle and Mongy are revered as Maradonas and Peles by some.

I'm fucking sick of "yes but they give 100%" well so they fucking should, give me 5 grand a week and I will!

We need people who can play football .

Anyone who hangs around the club for more than 12 months seems to end up becoming some sort of legend who we miss when they move on, nevermind how shit they actually were in a Blades shirt.

Surprised some people are not saying how much we miss the likes of Ashley Ward.

Not the worst CB we've ever had and not as good as those who wished to hang Clough by his bollocks for falling out with him were always saying.

Not good enough for Div2 but perfectly acceptable at our current level when partnered by Maguire. He's been found out since Harry left (yes we do miss old lead boots don't we) but nowhere near bad enough for all the bile on this thread that's for sure.

Apparently Collins spends a lot of time in Florida.

It would explain why he plays like he is on a beach.

Watched Tampa Bay Rowdies in the Best , Marsh era , when based in Naples , Florida , many years ago.

Another side fallen from grace . Level of football in the league is lower than MSL and is like conference level.

Last chance saloon for a player on his last pay day . Good riddance to bad blood and below standard player IMO.

UTB
And Adrian Heath is just up the road managing Orlando if he needs someone to chat about the Blades over a beer with.

Swapping living in Sheffield for Tampa, I bet that took a lot of thinking about! Having said that, the humidity in the summer in Florida is a bit grim.

"These opportunities only come along once in a lifetime and it was the right move for me and my family at this point in my career, I am indebted to the club for allowing me to take up this opportunity.

There have been some devastating lows but some fantastic highs during my time at Bramall Lane and there is no question that once a Blade always a Blade - this wonderful club has a way of getting under your skin.

I'd like to thank the players and staff I had the pleasure of working alongside. There are so many fantastic people working behind the scenes that deserve to see the club back where it belongs along with the long suffering fans who are the most loyal in the country.

Thank you for the memories and all the best in the future."

Thanks Neill and goodbye, but this exit should've happened a long long time ago and now this club must finally rectify the centre halves problem this summer.

Collins has had far more out of the club than we've had out of him, but I wish him well (unless he really was a bad influence).

I'm going to miss the Collins and Doyle era though...

Can't blame the guy - he has two young children and this represents a great opportunity for him - Good Luck Neil Collins

Of the move and his time with the Blades, Collins added: "These opportunities only come along once in a lifetime and it was the right move for me and my family at this point in my career, I am indebted to the club for allowing me to take up this opportunity.
