Interview With Adkins Ahead of Rochdale (A)

Giddings back to his rambling...sometimes makes it hard/impossible to understand exactly what the situation is eg re Scoogs.

Not much of substance here: more motivational stuff, talking up players, squad, and club - and there's a definite desire to win a game of football.

As for any of the stock phrases: Is it a cliche? Is it a consistent message? You decide.

• Flo available to start, talked up as like having a new player - watched the game on BP and he really is lively, very strange watching someone with mobility in our midfield
• looking for adaptability in formations
• working hard behind the scenes on loans, but has to be the right player
• spirit amongst the group
• Ben Whiteman involved in the first team squad
• no outs - about 30s later this is much less emphatic but imo that's down to Giddings and not a statement on Scoogs
• Scoogs will be travelling to Rochdale
• Flynn had an achilles and missed pre-season
• a firm No Comment on Baxter
• had dinner with McCabe last night - but the cheap bastard wouldn't pay . This is in response to AG's question about the public backing of the chairman - like this was news to Adkins. I think this is a bit daft on AG's part: presumably Adkins and McCabe will have known the long term plan from the outset and been sticking to it all season. I don't think it came as news or a relief to Adkins last week that he had the backing of the chairman. Who knows?

• good training this week - but it's the match that counts
• changed working days around - more afternoon sessions, media day Friday
• don't want it to be Groundhog Day

It becomes the weekly propaganda manifesto which makes nice easy reading but sometimes difficult to differentiate between fact and fiction . Suppose it's down to the club being in a state of flux and Adkins in a state of limbo . The Berlin Wall came down so I suppose owt could happen . 3 points tommorow for a simple plain English starter for 10 would be nice .

Given that recruitment of a Championship standard player and a L1 standard player are probably different I would have hoped Giddings would have asked whether this indicates he is building a squad for L1 next season.
