3-5-2 is made for him, particularly if we're playing 3 in the middle as we can accommodate someone who drifts in and out a bit and we're crying out for his footwork, creativity and intelligence. He showed enough in ten minutes on Saturday to make that clear, Exhibit A being a turn on the edge of his own box with 2 players round him where anyone else would have given it away. Dicey, but exciting.

He might be short. He might be inconsistent. He might not do it every week.

But he's got a lovely touch. Frankly there's only so many of the "Player X does the dirty work/works hard/puts a tackle in" that I can take when parting with £23 for the privilege :)

I agree but I think he's being punished for being a non-trier v Wigan (which I also agree with). Hopefully he's learnt his lesson now, won't take the piss again and will start at Rochdale.

Coutts = Appearances this season 22, Goals 0, Assists 2

Last season Apps 11 Goals 0 Assists unknown ( I believe 0)

He has qualities but straying into the final third is not one. Play him alongside Hammond and Basham and stay at home, don't bother watching the team.

I like Coutts, he always seems to link up well with Brayford and like you say he's got a good touch.

Perhaps playing Coutts, Reed and Cuvelier (if fit) might work.

I'd also play Flynn down the left instead of Woolford

Not entirely sure he needs to be a final third man, he certainly picks out a pass and with Brayford attacking down the right on the overlap he gives us an option for other players to push on

I could go on there and play within a 30 metre area and play the simple ball to Brayford all the time. I'm 67 years old. No I couldn't defend but neither can Coutts.

Coutts - meh!

Must do better. "Lovely touch", which he has, is simply not enough.

A contender for a place in a mid table third division team for no other reason than we have a squad full of mid range third division players.

It's all relative to the side we have. At 67, you'd make our development squad

Coutts undoubtedly has qualities but we are not Arsenal .As a team we are not good enough to play with 10 men.
In The league and the situation we are in now he's a waste of space and money.
In the league we are in you have to do the basics first and that is to get the ball.
Without it doest matter how much quality you have.
I can not stand he is lack of effort and lethargy.
Let's gid rid of him sharpish.

3-5-2 ?? Where's that come from? Did we play 3-5-2 on Saturday? Genuine queation as I couldn't make it

God almighty ,what chance have we got with people like you ?

I don't think the lad can do two games a week...not for a sustained period anyhow.
I think Adkns would play him every game if fully fit.

If our wing backs are being occupied by the opposition's wide men, the three central midfielders do have to cover a lot of ground, which they did on Saturday. Coutts came on and did some things brilliantly, but as usual there were occasions when he didn't seem bothered about opposition players jogging past him:

If selected in this midfield I'd want him to be in the middle, a bit deeper than the other two, who would have to be able, and prepared, to run a marathon. Maybe Coutts could sweep up, rather than chase and press, which he unfortunately doesn't do well enough.

Because he doesn't agree with you?

It's not a niche view that you need a lot of graft in this division. Coutts workrate, on the whole, has been abysmal. Probably because like Baxter, he just hasn't got it in him, rather than laziness.

He does have a sharp pass which many of our players don't, but I think the accusation is at least worthy of debate.

You do seem to get emotional, either way, about your "pet" (good and bad) players.

The led plays like a 40 year old in a testimonial. He really needs to offer more but another one who gets better in people's head the less he plays

So you would get rid of him sharpish ,did he make us look like 10 men on Saturday ?

I can't understand people writing off Coutts
He can't half hit a good ball in the box which is what we lack so often with someone like Sharp
I'm not sure many are writing him off. I think most accept he has certain qualities that we are lacking, wrapped up in a body that's not up to the desired workrate.

Whether that's permanent is in question. His performance has improved, but it's one of the longest roads back to full fitness in footballing history if that's what's happening. :)

Probably not, based in the poor quality of the rest of the midfield. I couldn't take great exception to someone arguing that we should.

I'm sick of carrying passengers, and his contribution thus far would put him in that bracket IMHO.

Whoever plays in midfield, they need to start taking responsibility and getting into the box to score goals. They're all pissing scared of the 18 yard box or shooting from outside it

That's the huge issue. There is no end product in our midfield, whether goals or assists

I think Hammond might give him a run for his money

You said this until he was just about our best player for 3 or 4 games and then you thought different, now after one indifferent game along with 10 others he is ridiculously benched for that no mark druggie and you revert back to your previous stance. Give the guy time and he will play well in a winning team like he was before Wigan.
Actually I'm surprised at you alco I think your views are pretty solid this post is for you and not the idiot above.

All very good but when you know your back 4 is a bit brittle then you tend to defend them rather than rush forward. Would make sense of why we create so little.
