Been a Blade for over 50 years and I've seen some rubbish in a red and white shirt over the years but I've always been optimistic about the future, but now I don't know. The team have no pride, no passion and why oh why can't the manager see what we see week in week out. He knows we have a terrible back four, he plays two defensive midfielders sitting in front of them to try and stop the other team scoring, and that's at home. I sometimes get angry at the effort we put in, but Shrewsbury was a watershed, at least I could laugh at that performance.

And why have Done and Adams lost that extra yard of pace they had last year?

All I want is for them to put in 100%, is that too much to ask. I live in Oxford so it's been a depressing journey, it used to be depressing driving home, but recently its been depressing driving to BDTBL

Yes, I''l be back next year, I turn 60 in four weeks so get a cheaper ticket, otherwise.... who knows

Truth is Atkins doesn't have much choice. However bad it gets I guess you just got to know that the rebirth in the club always lies with the fans and enduring during the shitty times. We're the ones that make it attractive to investors, new players etc. With your innings you've seen some bad times and seen the butterfly come out of the chrysalis before - it can happen again!

Chin( s?) up!

You've just got to get yer head down and battle through these times...for me, sitting just outside the play off's in L1 is nothing to rooer about compared to watching the capitulation of the Championship season followed by the fire sale/Chedgate saga of L1...and that's just fairly recent memory!

I actually do feel Adkins will sort this club out...a feeling reinforced by the start of this present cull (?when was the last time we paid a player up!?!?)
Sit back and try to enjoy the push for the play off's.

UTB!

ahha - yet another 1956 vintage ! That makes at least 3 of us on here. :)

Hang in there - we'll be back - just going to take a bit longer than we all hoped for. Adkins just needs the time to sort it.

56 was a good year.

Met Mick Jones in international bar last home game, what a gent and what a player

I only re-newed last season because I qualified for a senior ticket, doubt I will invest next season this set of clowns are pushing me to the limit.

Dblade56 - "why oh why can't the manager see what we see week in week out"..... this question was asked years before Adkins' got involved.

In a way I think they see more than we do and that is part of the problem. They see much more of the players, they see what they can play like in training, they form personal relationships. Leaving aside relationships that can cloud their judgement,

the thing is, the manager will hope that a player can repeat in a match what he is capable of in training (that is a hope, it is unrealistic as many hopes are), we have no such distraction. The supporters only see what the player is capable of in a competitive match and that is the only environment that matters........so actually, the crowd really would be able to select the team better than the manager. - I suggest that the team should be chosen by plebiscite of supporters who attended the last match, it wouldn't even be difficult to arrange.

This would relieve the managers of much of the tension and pressure that they are clearly weighed down by - they would enjoy their job more and work better. The crowds would increase because they would be able to be properly involved and hopefully the manager would feel so relaxed he wouldn't waste his energy and mind, arguing the toss about free-kicks and throw-ins with the mysterious 3rd official which leads me onto my next point;

Personally I prefer to watch matches from high up in the stand where you can better appreciate the patterns and movements of the game, I suggest that managers would do better to watch from the stands rather than the pitchside too. A few managers used to, are they contractually obliged to inhabit the technical area by the TV companies these days?

(I make no comment on Esablades call for us to keep our chins up and get our heads down at the same time)

He was lucky to have shoes with no soles on. :)
joking apart when I was at school a lad called Dawson turned up in football boots. When the teacher asked him why he was wearing them. He said it was them or bare feet.

Glass half full?

Someone nicked the glass years ago, probably selling it for a pittance. We've been licking rainwater from a muddy puddle for a long time. Occasionally a few drops of beer will replace the rain, but mainly it's rain.

Im a 1957 vintage.
But this dos'nt get nowhere near as bad as relegation to the 4th.
Things will get better no doubt
My fortnightly binge drink helps matchday

Ebsfleet. Didn't they try something like that? They sold 'shares' via the net and all 'shareholders' were allowed to vote on things. I think they even tried voting for the team selection but it's a while ago and I can't remember now. It all went tits up anyway.

Tbh I am depressed football wise now.
We all know signing 3 or 4 good players we would have a good chance of promotion this season.
We don't seem to identify any good loan players eg Armstrong - Newcastle to Coventry etc.
MK Dons gained promotion greatly helped by Afobe and Bamford loans and to say no one better could be found is ridiculous really.
Improving the playing staff is always an ongoing process whether you are Barcelona or Woking Town isn't it?
Even 1 good playmaker in centre midfield would have given us a lift.

I assume this is what we (the fans, the manager and the board) are all praying for now, that whatever money we have (if any) is enough to part pay some player wages.

Adkins said we have made some "six figure" bids for players, but could not get the deal done. I assume that these "six figures" could now be used to pay towards the wages of loan players?

I could be totally wrong of course, but that would make sense to me.

So we're not the only club that's badly run. That makes me feel a lot better.
That's as comforting as the doctor who diagnosed my vitiligo saying 'well it would look at lot worse if you were black' (true story).

its just nice to know other fans have to put up with it

It's hard to disagree with a lot of what you say, I'm starting to think that we are coaching the flair and gung-ho-ness out of players like Che and Done, and yes I made that word up.
On the other hand if you want a huge positive you mention passion and desire; our best player, our talisman and our top scorer is a blade through and through. Seeing him celebrate scoring a goal makes me laugh every time, the amount of running and effort he puts in is first class.
He's been treated harshly by us in the past but like us fans he's back for more and still believes that we can move on to bigger and better things.
I'm not a nuthugger, I've said before that I thought he was a twat at school but for me he's currently showing everything I'd want to see in my teams lead man.

I agree with all of that.

So what alternative is there? Turn your back on the Club? Turn your back on football?

Questions we all ask of ourselves, questions most of us answer with the correct answer.

The team have no pride, no passion

No matter how often this is repeated - I don't believe it at all.

Was it luck that got them back from three down at Wigan the Tuesday after Old Trafford - while some of the fans were chanting: "We're fucking shit."

The players have my support. Those fans absolutely do not.
