Harsh to see some of the young lads talked about in the same breath as the senior pros.

If we need to trim, we need to trim, but they've done nothing wrong to be talked about in the same breath as the likes of Higdon

It's the cheap option, I'm sure, to get rid of the young lads with potential. It's also worth noting that from those released, we've not had many arguments from those that watch the u21's and u18's.

However, is it worth questioning that because of the older dross and crocks on the fringes of first team (and playing first team), the younger lads aren't getting the chances? It's a fair possibility.

We need to trim the squad and I know that there are a number of players like JCR and Collins staking claims for new contracts (in whichever way they see fit), but these are the players we really need to move as well.

This should've been done in summer 2015. Too many players are still here and it's surely harming progression of younger players.

Connor Dimaio is playing for Chesterfield reserves against Hartlepool. Player no.10 on the way?

How is getting rid of our kids a 'cheap option'?

Craig Alcock
Marc McNulty
Chris Morgan
James Wallace
Otis Khan
Ioan Evans
Daniel Cockerline
Jake Phillips
Kler Heh
Kieron Freeman
Conor Diamo
Michael Higdon

That everyone?

Surely Higdon, Freeman, Sparky, Wallace and Alcock must free up a bit of wonga out of that list?

When we 'plumped' for Higgo reports were that he was after £8k from Chessy :O

If we don't buy anyone, thats our season fucked. I suggest we start taking big bites out of this awful starting 11. They're the ones that aren't performing. They're the ones who've taken us to the cusp of fuck all, not fringe players, reserves or players already out on loan.

"Scunthorpe forward Darius Henderson has had his contract with the club cancelled by mutual consent."

Blimey, there is indeed a culling of old style lumps.

Get him signed up.

That would make sense if we were buying them, not trying to get rid.
Well if we're trimming the squad we move on the cheap ones, it seems to be working as a few have clubs to go to so probably dont mind cancelling their contracts

on weekly basis tho Swiss those 5 players I would guess must equate to somewhere in the region of a £20k/week saving (if Higdon was on £8k/week)
Exactly. So low cost and low risk to cancel their contracts... The club an say they've spent the Man U and Murphy money on cancelling contracts ;)

After reading your other posts, I've worked out that what you're saying is that it's cheap in that we're paying compensation to get rid of players and that it's cheaper to pay compensation for kids' contracts than senior players.

I don't think that's the case. I think we're trying to get players out who've already got clubs lined up so that the compensation is limited to around the difference between their old and new contracts. For example if Higdon was on £8k a week until June and his new contract is £5k a week, we pay him 20 x £3k to fuck off now. And chuck a couple of pies in as a sweetener.

The ones we're stuck with are the ones no one wants and want their full contract sums to be paid off before they leave.

I think with the kids, we've found clubs for them and told them we're not going to renew their contracts but we won't ask for compensation from their new clubs if they go now. It's probably cost us very little but not saved us a great deal either and we all know that the main objective is to reduce the wage bill.

A waste of a wage is the same regardless of age. If we have 5 young un's on 400.00 per week with no chance of improving our squad in the near future we may as well get rid and sign a player worth £2000 per week who will improve the team (if it gets spent that is).

You could argue that we've probably seen more of a return on Higdon's wages though, admittedly not promotion like we all hoped but if you take in to account the league cup winner at MK last season as a football club & business we gained from that with the cup run that followed. Collectively those kids have been a waste of money though.

Yes what I'm saying is a mixture of what you've said. It's the easy way to shift X number of players on. What it doesn't do though is address any of the first team issues. So it'll have little effect and raises the chances of keeping the first team dross

Expensive lottery tickets. You chuck a couple of grand per week at a few kids in the hope one of them is the next Kyle. Much better odds than the lottery though.

11 players and 1 coach at the end of the window. I'm sure the list of players will grow over the coming weeks.
How about the Chief Scout we lured from another club? Or any chumps from the boardroom?
