No, it saves United from themselves. It delays the sales of our best players.

By way of example, James Beattie was not fit in the summer of 2008, and so we had the use of him until January as a result. No transfer window and he'd have gone by the end of September.

On the flip side it also means that we would be able to sign players when we require rather than having to make do, and "hold on in there" until a window (transfer or loan) opens up.

How many times have we heard the typical, "we are holding off signing a player on loan because we want to make sure it doesn't run out before the playoffs" - whereas if we didn't have to abide by transfer and loan windows, we would just be able to go out there and bring in a player when we want.

Granted we'd sell players - a football club is a business. The difference would be that we wouldn't sell them on the last day (or as close as) of a window and not end up replacing them for 3/4 months until the next window (if at all!) due to limited time to get a deal done for a replacement.

In a world without transfer windows, we'd sell a player and rather than panic buy (or not but at all) we would be able to go out and bring someone in a few weeks or so later without the pressure of transfer deadlines.

It was brought in to stop the big clubs nicking other teams' talent during the season. The compromise was an additional window in January.

That may have been the original intention but therein lies the key - big clubs.

Let them have transfer windows across the top divisions in Europe if that's what they wish to impose. Why punish the lower league clubs (not just in England but across Europe).

Because we are a big club in league 1, Derby, Burnley, Middlesborough etc are big clubs in championship, Porthsmouth are a big league 2 club etc.

We aren't going to be signing Real Madrid players any time soon so because we are tiny club compared to them doesn't matter because we will be looking to buy the best players from smaller clubs or buying cast offs from slightly bigger clubs.

Transfer windows are necessary. We can still make deals while they are closed the player just cannot join us until it opens, so it doesn't increase time for us to make these transfers.

I Fully understand and appreciate that but my opinion is that they should be scrapped outside of the top division.

Fair point. I just cant see the difference between the top leagues and the second/third/fourth tier teams in terms of transfer windows.

I'm assuming you meant can... this is all good and well, but WHEN (I'm being optimistic because its Friday) we get to the Championship we will be a relatively small fish in comparison to the top teams, so they will have all year round to buy our players
