If you were given a clean slate, who would you keep?

I would add Coutts to a few of those lists. Would have paid his train fare last season but now he's fit he's looking like he might be a good asset.

---------------GK---------------
Brayford Edgar CB Harris
-------Hammond CM--------
--------------CAM--------------
Done-----------------------LW
--------------sharp-------------

Subs/reserves
Long
Freeman
Wallace
Mcgahey
Reed
Baxter
Adams

With 5/6 additions I think we would have a really strong squad

Hard to say without knowing the salaries etc of each player but think I'd keep I'd keep

Brayford
Freeman
McGahey*
Wallace*
Reed*
Adams
Baxter
Hammond
Basham
Sharp
Done
McNulty*

* means as squad players with a view to them developing into real first teamers.

** I'd maybe keep Harris, Flynn and one or 2 others as squad players if their salary was low enough.

I'd then look to bring in

GK x 2

CB x 2

LB

RM

LM

ST (Target man- Sammon is OK but I think we can do better).

Indulge me as I know this isn't possible, but if someone said to you that you could release the entire squad tomorrow, who out of our current crop would you keep?

Personally I think I'd keep 4:

Che Adams-As others have said, clearly not the finished article, but bags of potential and certainly has an eye for the back of the net

Done-Excellent for this division when played in the right position

Sharp- Will score plenty of goals at this level and will run himself into the ground for the team

Baxter-A frustrating but technically gifted player, excellent eye for a pass

Brayford- Depends whether it's the Brayford of his loan period or the sub standard one we've had on a permanent basis, the man takes up a lot of wages and needs to justify it

How about anyone else?

For me ..... major cull if I could and retain: Freeman, Brayford, Adams, Done.
UTB & FTP

Going on what I did on FIFA. I kept Adams, Brayford, Reed and Done.

Although it was a tough job offloading most of our squad even on a computer game no fucker wanted to buy them.

Hard to say without considering wages, contracts and the ability to bring in replacements.

Tough one this, a large percentage of our squad really don't deserve to be here. This is going on the assumption that we can get better players than the ones I haven't listed, on similar or lower wages:

Che Adams
Jose Baxter
Paul Coutts
Billy Sharp
Matt Done
John Brayford
Harrison McGahey (potential)
Kieran Wallace
Kieran Freeman
Bob Harris
Chris Basham
George Long (potential)
Louis Reed (potential)

The rest can fuck off.

I would have a complete clear out, move everybody out and start afresh. CA will be sold so lets get rid so we don't waste time planning around him staying. Most of the others have slipped into a comfort zone where they are as happy as Larry flirting with the play offs, time for change, if only it was possible.

I'd keep the following:

Che Adams
Jose Baxter
Billy Sharp
Matt Done
John Brayford
Harrison McGahey
Kieran Wallace
Kieran Freeman
Bob Harris
Chris Basham
Louis Reed
Dean Hammond (if he signs in January)

Question mark over Coutts - maybe if he can prove his fitness.

The rest of the squad should be moved on (bar some of the really young lads).

My two sons and the cat but missus is on thin ice

Sharp, Done, Adams, Freeman, K Wallace, Bray as first team squad. Would ship Reed, McGahey and Long out on loan. Bin the rest.

not one wants to keep de geralamo
how things change eh

not playing him was given as the main reason for not being promoted not long back

K.Wallace, Sharp, Adams, Done, Basham, Hammond, JCR, Flynn, Harris, Brayford, Freeman, McGahey (potential), Baxter, Reed - Then all the other young 'uns out on loan and the likes of Khan etc - They all have ability, so it's worth giving them the time.

A bunch of those as solid squad players and potential ability, not as starters.

ditto
still add Long , as a squad member , hes still very young , goalies dont mature till 27 ish

Yeah I guess I would as well, I'm really not sure on him at all - Even at a young age, a Goalkeeper just can't be so frail mentally, but I guess he could still turn out to be decent.

Completely agree with your selections, which equals 5. I'm guessing you meant 4 with Brayford depending on which version of him?

Che Adams
Jose Baxter
Billy Sharp
Paul Coutts
John Brayford
K Wallace
K Freeman
Chris Basham
Matt Done

doesn't look fit to me. my mother runs faster than him and she's 70 with a heart condition.. we have simply too many chris guthries in the squad.. he'll be fit next week. yeah right.. i've never seen this Wallace actually play

who out of our current crop would you keep?

First 2 I would release would be you and barnyblade ... Oh hang on. You mean the 1st team squad?!? ;)

Keep
Howard - as backup to new GK.
Freeman
Harris
Brayford
Basham - as CB
Flynn - as squad player
Coutts
Sharp
Baxter
Done
Reed - loan out
Diego - loan out
Adams
K. Wallace
Dimaio - Loan out
McGahey - backup
Calvert-Lewin - Loan out

Sammon, Edgar and Hammond can all stay too.

That means

Release
J.Wallace
McNulty
Collins
Scougall
Woolford
McEverley
JCR
Alcock
Higdon
Long
Kennedy
McFadz
Cuvelier - UNLESS he proves fitness

Khan, Whiteman, Brooks, Hamilton, Banton, Adebowale, Willis - Don't know enough about to comment

Interesting lists.
If I may, I'd add two more supplementary questions:-

1. How many on your retained lists would be good enough to play regularly in the Championship?

2. Of those how many could we sell, and actually get more money than what we paid for them.

My list is just one name now!!!

A bit of an indictment of our recruitment policy over the past few years, is it not.

I'd keep JCR if he can get over this issue of hanging onto the ball too long before crossing (which I think he could), and also Kennedy if he can prove fitness

When's the Emergency Loan Window close?

Who would I keep? More to the point will we bring anyone in. Adkins said he was trying to get 2 or 3 over the line last deadline. Have we dropped interest in the others since the game changing addition of Hammond?

My guess is another deadline will pass without activity of note other than a few kids or fringe players moving out. Truth is I think the deadwood will hang on as long as they can and that will stop the club doing anything until we can force a few out.

There's a limit to how many players you can actually loan and use in a matchday squad, which I think is five off the top of my head. If we're using all of Sammon/Edgar/Hammond that doesn't leave a whole lot of room to manoeuvre right now while keeping an emergency loan for actual emergencies (our central midfield not being any use at all in Adkins' preferred formation does not constitute an emergency)

Done
Adams
K Wallace
Freeman
Reed

That's it.

The rest, the likes of Brayford, Coutts, Harris etc have been around long enough, they are experienced performers in the league above but for whatever reason things aren't working out for them and us here. Sure individually they may be okay but they all have failure ingrained in them really. I'd much rather build on the talented younger players we have already at the club then keep on those on high salaries who are contributing a lot less in most cases than the younger players on much lower salaries.

It's difficult to play when injured you know.

Brayford offered less than Flynn did after he displaced him in the team last season. He was distinctly average.

Coutts was very poor last season. Seems better this season but his fitness is a real concern.

Harris is a very average full back IMO. I know a lot rate him but I really don't. Wallace has been better this season in that position than Harris was last.

How on earth can you write off Brayford and Harris and say things aren't working out for them here. Brayford was played out of position after signing permanently and then got injured, how is failure ingrained in him?

I'd keep Adams, Done, Sharp, Baxter, Brayford, Flynn, Harris, K Wallace, Freeman, JCR. Give Coutts a short term contract to try and get properly fit and let Kennedy, Cuvelier and J Wallace have appearance based contracts to have one last shot at getting fit. I'd also keep most of the youngsters, but actually play people like Diego to prove once and for all if he's worth keeping. Our wide players and attackers are fine. The team needs a spine (in more ways than one)
