If you were given a clean slate, who would you keep?

I'd keep:

Freeman
Brayford
Harris
K Wallace
Adams
Coutts
Done
Sharp
Basham but only as a Centre Half.

I would also hang onto the following on youth or lowish paid contracts as back up/development players if they didnt want to stay on those terms then they could foxtrot oscar too:

Reed
Long
Dimaio
Girolamo
Kennedy

Brayford offered less than Flynn did after he displaced him in the team last season. He was distinctly average.

Coutts was very poor last season. Seems better this season but his fitness is a real concern.

Harris is a very average full back IMO. I know a lot rate him but I really don't. Wallace has been better this season in that position than Harris was last.

Brayford had to play at CB last season. He is the best right back in the division.
Harris is the best left back in the squad.
Coutts - everybody is split on him.

After many hours of consideration I have arrived at my conclusion.

Freeman
Basham
Sharp
Baxter
Done
Reed
Adams
K Wallace

are the players worth keeping.

If Brayford could be moved on for a half decent fee that would be beneficial. If not then obviously he's worth keeping from an ability point of view.

Collins, Harris, Flynn, JCR and McNulty could consider themselves a bit unfortunate but we have to be ruthless if we want to give ourselves the freedom to sign players of the required quality.

In reality though a number of those on the 'get rid' list will stay as squad players.

How on earth can you write off Brayford and Harris and say things aren't working out for them here. Brayford was played out of position after signing permanently and then got injured, how is failure ingrained in him?

I'd keep Adams, Done, Sharp, Baxter, Brayford, Flynn, Harris, K Wallace, Freeman, JCR. Give Coutts a short term contract to try and get properly fit and let Kennedy, Cuvelier and J Wallace have appearance based contracts to have one last shot at getting fit. I'd also keep most of the youngsters, but actually play people like Diego to prove once and for all if he's worth keeping. Our wide players and attackers are fine. The team needs a spine (in more ways than one)

Brayford played a fair number of games at RB as well last season. He offered nothing like the threat he did the previous season and was average IMO. Freeman this season has been a very good consistent performer who looks to have some real quality about him, he will only get better the more he plays. He will also be earning a lot less money than Brayford.

Brayford at RB last season was hampered. He didn't have a relationship with the RM like he did with Flynn the previous season. We also weren't playing the fast counter attacking football as we were the season before. Brayford barely got over the halfway line last season. That was down to style of play, not Brayford's lack of ability.

Brayford played enough at RB and wasn't as good Flynn when played there. He was nothing like as good as he was the season before. He also didn't have the excuse of rustiness as he'd been playing all season for Cardiff.

Harris probably is the best in the squad I agree. But I've seen enough in Wallace to suggest he's dependable and he gets better game by game. I think he'll surpass Harris quite soon.

Coutts is a quality footballer. He just doesn't look like he will ever be fit and mobile enough.

I don't dislike Brayford as a player. I think he is a good player, I just don't think we need him as a League 1 club because we have a very good league 1 RB in Freeman who is younger and on less money.

I see the money we could potentially get for Brayford as well as the saving on his wages as an attractive option when we can do without him.

Retained List if I got the job:

Brayford
Harris
Done
Sharp
Reed
Adams

Thats ya lot, the rest would be called into the office one by one and shot, sorry paid off.
