Good for the club. He's done some interesting jobs since he's retired.

I've met him and am pleased to say in this instance do meet your heroes - he's a thoroughly nice guy.

UTB
And I don't disagree with him being good for the club, but do we just appoint on players being former Blades (mostly from the long ball era's) or are these guys genuinely the best qualified for the job?

In this case genuinely very qualified for the job. Perhaps you haven't read the OS about his role - specifically to work with the young strikers in the Academy and to help with recruitment. He's a qualified coach, has scored numerous PL goals and did some interesting coaching with Leeds Met (not sure if he's still involved with that company) has managed successfully in Norway. His CV fits very well.

Deano is a bright man and has done well in Norway.

He has said that he has had trouble getting interviews for English managers jobs.

I'd say he's hugely overqualified and will expect him to keep looking for managerial jobs. In the meantime, this is win-win.

Great for all concerned. A club legend bringing a bit of feel good factor whilst also being about more than sentiment. He has experience as a top striker and a decent coach/manager. Surely a good thing for the kids coming through the academy. Let's hope he can help turn DCL into the next him

Bladey bladeness meter will be about to explode!

tbh when i first heard i thought WTF, then i remembered he has quite a good cv since he quit football, a wealth of knowledge to pass on, very probably contacts now in norway and scandinavia and someone who still possesses, i believe a genuine love of the club.
possible future Blades manager, given time perhaps but definately a coup of a signing.
Welcome home Deano

Good timing, what with two of his clubs playing each other on Saturday.

Including, and I shall never tire of saying this, the first one ever :)

In August 2017, it'll be 25 years since that great moment. To mark the occasion I think we should gather together the 22 players on the pitch at the time and the 3 officials and do a full recreation of that moment on the Bramall Lane pitch.

Think Baddiel & Skinner done on a larger scale. 2 years to get this arranged...

I was making a general point, deano looks like he's worked for his coaching quals

I rather hope Deano doesn't become our manager simply because I don't want his association with club remembered for him being anything other than the best striker we've had in my lifetime.

The Pinchmeister objects to a lot of ex-players being described as legends. I think Sir Brian is the only true legend I've been fortunate enough to see earn that title.

*genuflects in his general direction*

I know he's 47 now, but I reckon he'd do a lovely job at centre back. Or possibly a Beckenbauer-type sweeper role.

Seriously, I'm delighted that he's back involved with the club, and he'll have so much to pass onto the youngsters.

I thought Deano was doing a good job at his club in Norway. Anyone know why he's back, pushed or jumped ?.

"away abroad at the moment with Lee Turnbull looking at a player .................."

Interesting comment from Adkins, - very interesting, any good Norweigan strikers around at the moment ?
