that's fine - discuss all you want, but you have heard one side of an issue - without all the information from both sides, it is just speculation.

As for James Shield - has he suddenly become the font of all knowledge? From reading this forum, the phrase "Stir" is normally attributed to that source.

The board sanctioned Clough to make decisions. which is what he did - that's what management is about - some can't grasp that reasoning.......oh yes, it's a boss making a decision.

UTB

You've said absolutely nothing to dispel the perception that the clubs stated reason for JCR going on loan was a lie.

I've heard both sides. The club told Shield why he'd gone.

If you hVe evidence one side or other was telling the truth, let's have it. Otherwise, your attempt to reconcile the 2 positions has no merit.

From the horses mouth.
Clough didn't say here it was down to personal reasons but explicitly states that it was due to him losing form.
Offered JCR the chance to go out on loan, play games and get his form back. JCR agreed.
Praises "Jam's" character and influence in the dressing room.
Jokingly agrees with the interviewer that he might do us a favour when playing our rivals.

Following this, there was an outcry on the basis that JCR had had a couple of indifferent games after a great run, which caused the club to tell Shield a different story.

Slightly ridiculous of both JCR and Collins to claim they "didn't know" why they were left out and then loaned out.

They are both grown men. If they wanted an explanation, why not just ask for one?

Much more likely that they knew all too well why they were dropped even if they didn't agree with it.

Footballers generally don't dish the dirt on each other or managers. I know a footballer (ooooh, get me) who refused to spill the beans on a manger treating him like shit on his show, despite getting chance several times by journalists. He was always of the opinion that he only wanted good press and also said that slagging someone in public might deter future managers from signing him.

I presume Collins and JCR know every last detail but would rather not say.

Agree, I think 'I don't know' is interview speak for 'none of your business'.

The continued assassination of Clough by some, months after he left the club seems to point to one inescapable fact.

Pornhub is not reaching it's target audience effectively.

Pornhub - because actual wanking beats making wank posts on internet forums.

Apparently, and this comes - second hand - from someone who was party to the decision, a significant factor in the decision to sack Clough was his unwillingness or inability to make up with players he'd fallen out with.

This source is a chat my mate had the other day.

I'm not sure of the exact details.but that's the gist of it.

Pure speculation again. I just don't get it.

If people say it loud and often, shit sticks?

This was a conversation with someone who was party to the decision, I don't see how that qualifies as speculation.

You can question the veracity of my post, or my mate's story, but in neither case is it speculation.

You should read what JCR says about the situation in the Star today. That is not speculation.

Not seen the Star but won't it just be recycling of the interview at the start if this thread, dressed up in the reporter's language? Or is it genuinely new content?

It's one side of a story - what is this? trail by media speculation now? It's in the newspaper so it's 100% gospel truth. There could be numerous reasons why JCR went out on loan.

This isn't a defence of Clough, he might be culpable for all sorts of reasons, but as of yet he hasn't had the right of reply - and probably never will.

Just find it all unwelcome when we are starting to put our issues on the pitch right.

Of course it is speculation - didn't you say previous............it was heard second hand. Another phrase is tittle-tattle. It may very well be true, it might also be rumours

Without Clough giving the reasons or his side of the issue - there isn't a story - only guess work.

I hear stories in a certain retail establishment from someone ITK, who knows people at the club. Treat them all with a pinch of salt. There may be a modicum of truth in them all, or perhaps not.

So it's not worth discussing any story about United unless those featured have had an opportunity to comment. Okay.

Just read the story in the Star - absolutely nothing new in it. Some people do like to find a conspiracy story where there might not be one.

As for discussing it - not an issue to me. That's the old chestnut isn't it........... posts get criticised then it's a fall back case of "oh, you can't discuss"

As I have written - the whole JCR problem was a manager making a decision that he thought was best for SUFC. I too thought it strange, I am just defending the right of the manager to make those decisions as he was in charge.

Some just can't accept people who make decisions - especially when they don't agree.

Someone has to be to blame.

This is not a definition of speculation I recognise.

The conversation involved someone who was party to the decision, and actually took place in a very public place.

Either:

I am misrepresenting (or plain inventing) it here
My mate is misrepresenting (or plain inventing) it to me
The party involved in the decision was not telling the truth

Fwiw none of the above strikes me as plausible and none of the above amounts to speculation. Therefore I take it to be a true account of events.

If a journalist bothers to ask the question of the right person I'd be pretty sure they would get the response I originally posted ie my mate's version simply based on the fact that the conversation took place in public.

I'm going to leave it at that.

Weren't we helping Shaun Derry out and they were due to play some teams around us in the league at the time also help keep JCR sharp for the busy end of season?

For clarification I'm referring to *the reason Clough was sacked* and a conversation with someone who was party to *that* decision.

I thought at the time that shortly after Brayford's arrival, he and JCR just didn't seem to click down that right hand side. I would guess Clough thought Flynn or Coutts was a better partner for Brayford there so JCR was out of the team. Personally, I thought he was still worth a place on the bench but with Adams also being an option, it's not ridiculous that he was loaned out. I did think it was odd that he didn't feature in the playoffs at all though given that Brayford was no longer at right back and that Flynn and Done were struggling with injuries.
