I think because he was left out of the squad on Tuesday with no mention of injury folk are a bit dubious. I guess we'll know tomorrow when we see the team sheet.

If it was a league game, then I would be worried, but we all knew that Adkins was going to make changes so it's hardly surprising he wasn't in the squad.

For what its worth, lots of rumours on Twatter saying he is having his medical at Brighton this morning before completing a £2.2m deal.

Could be total crap......

Could be quite a shitstorm on the horizon. Mr Phipps ought to be cancelling his social media accounts sharpish!

On sky sports news... Bad typo and rubbish pic like. Sat and watched it come round twice

I just don't get why an absence is treated with doom and gloom? Maybe there was a reason for Murphy's absence that isn't being shared with the supporters.... I wish some of us wouldn't jump to the most negative conclusion just because of a rumour.
I admire your anti-negativity stance but you know it's coming, right?

Hope it's wrong but I long for the day we play hard ball with a player. Even if Murphy has expressed an interest in leaving he should be reminded that he willfully signed a new contract not 6 months ago and therefore cannot be that unhappy to be here.

Wouldn't blame him if he went. Brighton's a nice place to live and I think they'll do well this season under Hughton.
He can't wait around for us to get promoted, he needs to be playing at a higher level at this stage in his career.

It's a big shame but we've been discussing NA's transfer dealings in depth on here and I think the general consensus is that we have a large squad and a wage bill to match so we had to shift some out to bring some in.
No-one is likely to take our crap players or our injured players so it only left our decent players.
Hopefully his transfer fee will be spent on the players we need. (Yeah, I know).

I also recall that it wasn't that long ago that Adkins made it clear that he wasn't considering selling Murphy.....has owt changed since?

Take the money and run I say. If he wants to go somewhere else for more money, don't stop him, because why keep someone who doesn't want to wear the shirt? I reckon we could get in a decent center mid and center half for Murphy

May have been given promises at his job interview(s) and now been told something else?

With the inference that after one meaningful game the new manager isn't getting the best out of him.
Nothing like giving the new manager a chance is there.
Blind loyalty,
You couldn't make it up.

OR

It's a perfectly reasonable statement (with it being true for one) and has no inference about anything.
Murphy went from someone who 90% of people on here would have been happy to see the back of to our "star performer" under Clough. I would have said that is not in any dispute.
Why does that have to infer anything as to how New Nige is playing him?

You just know if we received an offer of £2 million the board will get giddy with excitement and snap their hand off.

If he's going (and God knows I hope he isn't) then it's better now than 3 hours before the window closes.

It would put pressure on the powers that be to deliver sufficient quality of replacement(s) without the excuse of "we didn't have the time" to cloud the issue.

Like when we sold McDonald this time 2 years ago?

Actually in fairness I think we signed Cuvelier and Baxter after didn't we? Who were at the time widely regarded as two of the finest midfielders in the league (possibly striker in Baxters case)

What, like last season after Maguire left? That went well...

Yes, exactly like those examples, which proved to me (at the time) we were still a "sell and fuck the consequences club".

I thought we might have transformed with the January buys, but this would be another acid test.

As said before, I DON'T want him to go and, fwiw, I don't think we'd replace him adequately. Stand by the timing comment 100% though.

It was just a light hearted comment?

Well, Sky Sports transfer news feed has nothing on the subject, but they talk about goalkeeper loan signings at League 2 level.

I reckon if Brighton were on the brink of a 2.2m purchase of Murphy, it would have been mentioned......

If we sell Murphy it would be a joke , best attacking player we have at the club

I really didn't see this one coming. Adkins doesn't wanna sell him, we don't need the money, Murphy seems to love the club and is settled here with a young family.
Really surprised if this comes together, although we must be getting a decent fee for him which HAS to be reinvested in the squad.
