What needed to be done in the summer...a big clear out

The thing with having a clear out is you have to have players other clubs want, we don't want to be. Getting rid of Done, Murphy or Brayford but who else is going to take the likes of Higdon, Coutts, J.Wallace, Couvellier, Collins, Mceverly, McFadzean and Long off our hands?

Well, what I think is that the players he's got, or most of them anyway, but playing in a 4 5 1 system. From what I saw ayt Gillingham and listening Tuesday night we are not imposing ourselves, winning and keeping the ball.

I'd go for
Howard
Freeman Egan Collins McEverley
Done, Baxter or Sharp, Basham, Wallace, Murphy
Sammon or Adams

Sharp potentially in midfield, never work, he's a 6yd box player.

When Clough was sacked and Adkins appointed we needed a big clear out and new players recruited during the summer.
This hasn't happened and we are now still in the same position of having a big squad of players, most who are not good enough!
Wiping the slate clean and giving existing players a chance has been a waste of time IMO as they were not good enough last season and are still not good enough now!
There are maybe 6 or 7 players who we should keep and the rest moved on and replaced by buying or loan signings, but this should have happened in the summer,a new broom sweeps clean!
It is a worry that we basically need a new back 4,a keeper and a good centre midfielder to realistically challenge for promotion.
Making McEv captain is ridiculous and Long is just not good enough by a long way.
We have 1 good defender,Brayford, who is out injured.
It is bloody frustrating because all the fans know where the problems lie defensively.
It is going to be difficult to ship out players,if anybody wants them, and recruit this amount of players before the transfer window shuts, very worrying!
Does anyone else share my concerns and frustration?

Not read the thread yet but strongly disagree with the title and the OP.

Adkins has gone about it exactly the right way imo: he's assessed the squad in training, pre-season, and now in two(!)competitive games.

As plenty of people have pointed out you learn a lot more from your losses and last Satdi was probably a real education. This goes for Tuesday as well where apparently there was room for improvement.

We do seem to have a bloated squad in numbers if not physique :-)

Adkins has addressed this too, saying players will begin to find out who's being included and who isn't.

We are a work in progress adapting to a new system -especially 4 instead of 5 in midfield.

I think Adkins is the best manager to get us up, keep us up, and keep us moving forwards.

Where did Adkins say this?

Radio or internet interview.

Something like: Some players won't be in the team and that might start a conversation.

He had been asked about reshaping the squad.

I wouldn't read too much into this as I can't recall the details.

Can't remember which one but I think it was before the season had started.

Brayford, Done, Flynn, Harris, Alcock and Ryce.

McGayhey?

As mentioned, next summer will be the big clear-out, whatever league we're in...hopefully we'll be able to shift some out on loan and this will create a bit of space to bring in some much needed quality in in key areas.
