Seems like he met most of the local press today - here's Radio Sheffield's.

Summary for those who haven't heard it:

- players being brought back in earlier (June 29th) so he can access them more fully for a couple of days, but has some idea of what's needed already as he's looked at performances/stats from last season
- looking to take the squad away for a few days as part of the process, everyone is starting from a blank piece of paper. Will be a lot of interaction with them on the training ground. Important to look at what's in house before recruiting people in - e.g. players might have been appropriate for style of last regime, but might not be now needed
- conversations already with agents, so seeds planted, not being idle while assessments of squad happen. Have to be the right players.
- not looking to let anyone move on yet till that initial assessment has happened
- on the retained list. Decisions made for certain reasons by last administration. Those released players are in the mix with everyone else
- looking at the obvious, last season conceded too many and scored too few
- wants a united football club, everyone pulling in the same direction
- on getting old boys in, attitude and behaviour so important so getting people in that you've worked with before is only really because you know exactly what you're getting. Have an open mind on everything with recruitment - this country, abroad, old, young. Dean Hammond was an outstanding captain - wouldn't be surprised if he's still at Leicester next season
- has been up Ecclesall Rd a few times already, and joined up with some random walking group one occasion

Also, called us Sheffield early on, and immediately corrected himself.

A good listen, only strengthened any previous thoughts I had about Nigel coming in. I like how ha hasn't given too much away in terms of targets so people wont get over excited, but overall it sounds good and i think we will be a very real threat for automatic promotion next season..

When I first heard it I took what Adkins said on this point to be that those released were also back under consideration. Apparently not according to Giddens.

Indeed. Keeping my expectations low, but I look forward to seeing Hazard, Messi, Ronaldo, Bale, Reus, Neuer, Sanchez, Hummels, Pique and Pogba suiting up in the new United kit over the next few weeks.

See the deluded from Leppings pig farm are still creating stories about Gray not possibly being there come August
Wouldnt that be a shame

Good interview with a lot of intent . We talk the talk , it will soon be the business end , when we have to walk the walk . Should be ok this season , and i am sure the squad wont be as tired or fatigued as last season . A number of players may be going back with trepidation , like going back to school after the 6 weeks holidays . That will be good because hard work ,and good preparation never killed anyone , and it gets you out of this league

Good interview, made sensible points and seems energised and engaged with the task in hand and not one trace of inflated ego.

What a refreshing change!

He mentions looking abroad for players, which is a refreshing change.

I like the guy and he was my first choice as manager but he noticeably repeats himself a lot in different interviews. To the point that every interview is almost the same.

"United together" "Channeling energy" "United as one"

We could turn his interviews into a drinking game. :)

They used to count Adkinsisms at Soton!

I think we expect too much of football managers sometimes. It's a daunting moment to do a publicly broadcast interview. We shouldn't expect Alan Whicker, David Frost or a Dimbleby!

What I like is the enthusiasm of the man. You can almost touch it. Sure, there are slogans and cliches in there, but so there.are for all political parties and pressure groups.

I find him an interesting and engaging communicator and I'm glad he's our manager.

United Together!!

(I've heard a lot worse...)

so when Adkins talks about bringing in his "old lackies" no one bats an eye lid (depsite this including the likes of Forte.)..... strange how it was the root of all evil under the previous regime....

think the difference is, adkins has got a good CV, WITH promotions at different clubs and also plays a decent brand of football, as opposed to the previous regime

His positive enthusiasm is infectious, and will affect everybody at the club . Get the tea and laundry ladies on side and you have cracked it.

He does give a feel good factor , so it can only benefit the players . However i do not get the impression , he is a soft touch , and may well be a bastard at times , but for the right reasons.

Brought a breath of fresh air , as we were all getting stale . Maybe for once we have got the manager appointment right .

Never been too bothered about interviews tbh. They can be interesting at times but generally cliche riddled shit from people with media training.

I'll judge him on what he does, not what he says.

I think your view is the healthy one BB. Naturally I'll support Adkins, but he's got that boy scout enthusiasm you'd expect, and what matters is whether he can get the existing players to respond to his demands, plus whoever he brings in will have to make a positive difference. Personally I'm dreading a potential signing of Billy Sharp. Not because I have anything against the guy, but because I feel any existing sentiment clouds the judgement of whether he's capable enough to give us that threat we're sorely in need of. If Adkins does manage to sign Billy then I hope he does well, but I fear that moment has come and gone and that it's time to sign someone more able and who's going to be here for the long-term.

we've had people with "good" cv's before though....

the point was more that Clough was vilified for supposingly only going for his ex players (although of the 20+ players he brought in only 6 were under his previous charge.) but people seem to think it's wonderful that he likes going for players he knows.... and saying how wise he is for it... (paraphrashing obviously) Fickle is the word I would say.

(bear in mind also he has signed Jonathan Forte twice....and thats when he wasnt scoring!)
