What happened to those who questioned the Prince's commitment?

It was the "game changing" statement that was daft.

Though it was "game changing", most football fans can't spend enough of someone else's money, and as much from those who put sweet fuck all in themselves, in terms of support.

Reality was never going to live up to the expectation that that statement raised.

UTB

I believe the "game changing investment " statement was made by one of the McCabe sons and it's a bit like the Labour bloke who left the note in the Treasury for the Tories " There's no money left"; as he said the other day he'll regret it for the rest of his life.

Although you could see immediately that the money was there as in the JTW before the prince it was 2 out 1 in for Danny Wilson. In July David Weir brought in a lot of players. We even paid money for Jose Baxter. Then, we paid off Weir and all his team 4 months into their contracts and brought in a championship manager and all his team.

Then... We signed many players from higher divisions (mainly ex Derby players - Freeman, Davies, Brayford) on loan.

It was clear from the start that the tables had turned if you look back to Wilson's last few weeks/months.

People questioning it baffled me.

Slight correction Matt. Weir's brief was to chop the wage budget and bring on the kids from the successful team in the Youth Cup.

A couple of months after his appointment the whole scenario changed with the arrival of the new owner. Suddenly Weir was in the wrong place at the wrong time. The money Weir spent was modest indeed and Baxter came with part of the McDoanld money and wage savings. From memory about 10 players left the club that summer including some high earners.

I estimated at the time that Weir was under orders to cut the wage bill to below £3m; then along came the prince like the cavalry.

Ah. So it was 'said in jest' then? Something that even Liam Byrne said he did with 'tongue in cheek' and it wasn't menat to be taken seriously.

So what other proclamations are we to take as 'a bit of a joke' then from the board? Maguire's sale? The oft-quoted '£10m spent'?

Face it, when the Prince (and his crew) arrived at BDTBL, some on here were suspicious. Was the club in that much shit? Will it be asset-stripped and the football club be turned into a shell company for other, more important ventures as McCabe offloads the liability and gets his 'investment' (plus the Tevez money) back? Will the club be denuded to an eternal life in Div Four (or lower) as we dream of signing better players (like Pompey are now courting Micheal Doyle)? What exactly was the rich Saudi Prince doing and what was his interest in a thrird tier, struggling English side?

Then there wa the GCI statement which saw people pour out onto the streets, shirtless, throwing their hands ito the air, 'Allah, Akhbar' - ing all day and all night. We are SAVED! God bless the Prince! We are SAVED! Well done McCabe for bringing this vast array of riches to this club. Get Ronaldo and Messi signed and don't skimp on the Iniesta's.

All in jest. There's no money left.

Was the club in that much shit?

In addition to not having anything substantial to spend on the first team, were we not also having to make quite a few redundancies from staff in the club that had been there for years? That's not a path I wanted to see us continue down. We'll never know how low we might have sunk - luckily we haven't had to find out.

Interesting how your perception is completely at odds with mine and that of many other posters. Change those negative terms you employ, berating and baiting, to reminding and there you have a completely different emphasis. The way you describe this it's as if you feel it's some type of footballing holy day where to comment or to offer a critique shouldn't be allowed. Nowhere will you find me suggesting that opinions shouldn't be heard, equally those opinions, just as mine are, should receive responses that sometimes differ. But you clearly disagree...funny how you adopted the name of someone who supported the notion that ideas and opinions should flow, regardless of the consequences, or was that some type of footballing irony on your part?.
I can't be bothered to respond in full as it means reading an essay each time you post. I've made my point which isn't much different to which others have also made.

Fuck me, if you think that was ok, then everything you say has no meaning.

I'll respect your right to put your tail between your legs and trot off into the sunset. If you're employing the numbers game then it also applies to the 20+ posters who liked what I wrote. As for reading an essay, your lame attempt at tongue in cheek only masks your unwillingness not to provide facts to confirm your accusations.

As long as his tail is between his legs and his tongue in his cheek I'm sure we can all go home happy.

The prince got his fortune with hard work that took a long time, he didn't rush in full belt, I would assume he is doing the same with SU, money will come gradually it won't be pumped in all at once.

'Cheap option'?

What ... hire a patently inexperienced and clueless manager, sink like a brick, sack him (and pay him and his staff off) and hire another manager who apparently had the Saudi vaults opened to him (although no one can tell exactly how much was spent)? That was 'cheap', you say?

So we reboot the system, no doubt promise Adkins the world and ...

pommpey

The Prince wasnt involved in the hiring of David Weir he was only involved in paying him off
He has decided Clough had to go so hes paid him off along with 7 staff
The cheap option was to stick with Clough as he wouldnt have had to pay him off its not that hard to understand
Adkins will also be on a Championship salary

Makes complete sense bri, as does the fact that from what's been disclosed via posters on these pages the Prince has poured around £10 mil or more into the club so far. I wonder if some posters realise just how fortunate the club is to have a benefactor with pockets this deep? McCabe made it clear some time ago that he was no longer will to provide the funding that was necessary. I'm not blaming KM for that, for someone in KM's position there's only so far his financial help can extend. We're fortunate to have the Prince on board, it's his financial support that will make progress possible.

Like 'when we get into the Championship'?

It's like saying 'you can have your wheelchair when you walk to the shop and collect it'

So, Adkins on a Championship salary (and his eventual sacking if we fuck up) is an expensive option?

Yeah, I see that.

Fucking madness.

Look, I am far from anti-Adkins. I think he is an astute, clever and talented manager. Better than Clough and better than any one we have had, possibly since Warnock. But I fear unles the squad is strengthened and we ditch the shit, Adkins will become another Clough in a faster timescale.

I will stop supporting the club if he is not supported with regard credible playing staff, we fuck it up again and he gets sacked.

There. I have said it.

Anyone who thinks McCabe ever had, has or will ever have the chance to get his money back has not been following football for the last 50 years. I wonder who Pommpey would like to see running the club? You could do with spending a few days at a football club, mate, and learning just how easy football finance is. You might even be shown the secret room where the shoeboxes are kept, marked variously "Cup income", "Player transfer income", "Season Ticket Income". The money that never has to be spent because, uniquely, Sheffield United do not have massive recurring costs.

Fucking hell, better than anyone since...wait for it...Warnock. Talk about damning with faint praise. It's comical, isn't it?

As for the promise to stop supporting the club...you have to start before you can stop!

Tell me Pinchy. Who was it who appointed Brian fucking Robson? What happened to us during the latter part of our PL campaign after our striker broke his ankle? Yeah, Warnock was partly to blame but we failed miserably to reinforce and restructure for a number of seasons in the top flight. Someone was running the club then. See also the serial piss up of finances against the wall that has greased the slide of our decline and more importantly, the remaining of us as a club at the arse end of English football. Sure, I don't think it is just like FIFA15 or Championship Manager. Sure there are better footballing directors than I and I don't have one bastard minute of experience as a board member of any football club than to base by criticisms upon. But neither do you. We are all obersvers outside the fish tank. However its plain to see that the consistent entity of Sheffield United since we started this uncontrollled descent has been in fact ... McCabe. Oh, hang on ... and the supporters of course.

Now you tell me which one any sane minded individual would judge as partially if not wholly responsible for our demise? We have sold good players for shit money, and bought shit players for good money (apparently). We have watched abject performances from players and managers and the team capitulate to lesser-financed teams and wondered when and how it will all end. And still the turnstiles turn, still the Blades shop sells another shirt or two and we still get through to the financially sunny uplands of cup competitions, moreso than our promoted rivals in fact. But still we remain.

If we do have 'massive recurring costs' then why? We are no better or worse a structured club than say, Doncaster Rovers, Rotherham or Leeds United. Where are these unstoppable outlets of cash then> Player wages? We have a massive squad of pretty average players. Surely when Clough went to the board with the "we should buy 'this player'" there was a "okay, Nige. What can he bring to the squad, and let's see the scouting report and player stats" response before they pressed the button on a £250k fee plus £9k pw wage (for example)?

Says the 'supporter' who disappears when the fat lady sings.

Oh, I see. The old hackneyed thing - you have to live in Sheffield and attend every game to be classified 'a supporter'.

Reyt laff.

I seriously doubt you have every "supported" the club.

Apart from the grammatical error, I take it you are in the 'Pinchy camp' in that unless you prove your Bladey-Bladeness by going to every game and live a mile from Bramall Lane and agree with every fuck up McCabe thinks up next you aren't a 'supporter'?

You talk out of your arse, Mobile. Seriously, you do.

No. You jump to a false conclusion. What you have to do is something that might fall remotely within the definition of "support". Constant negativity and repeated destructive criticism is outwith even the widest construction of the concept.

As to the finances. Our annual expenditure exceeds our annual income. That's football but someone has to fund the deficit and it sure as hell ain't a cup-tie or a replica shirt!

That's not my camp. It's not what I said or meant. I have never expressed the views you ascribe to me. I am the very epitome of Anti-Bladey-Bladeness.

That's better a single paragraph answer, you're finally getting the hang of this posting malarkey which to be fair to you should be with nearly 3000 posts in about 18 months.
