Good luck to him but he was out of contract and is getting on a bit so no real surprise he is being released, same applies to Collins. Very interesting that he refused to endorse Clough when given the chance.

Interesting? How so? Entirely predictable sour grapes I'd have thought.

Michael Doyle - profoundly limited but the fount of all footballing wisdom (to those with an agenda).

Really? I always found it interesting that the majority of Warnock's ex-players would speak highly of him when no longer under his management - this despite him dividing opinion so much.

I'm pretty sure the vast majority of Nigel's ex-players would say the same.

Why sour grapes the guy was out of contract and into his thirties he knows as everyone does he cannot carry on for ever, my take is a true gent being very diplomatic.

Terry Kennedy thinks the world of Cloughie. Is that interesting?

Interesting with players like Doyle. hes averaged about 7/10 on Deadbat reports, but regularly got slated from the fans. Coutts has averaged about 4/10 but gets defended to the hilt.
Deadbat's reports are not gospel you know and many do not read them because they do not agree with his markings for players.

Not listened to the interview and just catching up on here but I guessed most of it my Son said. No trumpet blowing, was just predictable.

Thank you Michael Doyle, a great servant for the club over the last five years, never shirked a challenge or his resoonsibility, until the Fulham cup game last year his discipline was in question but came back and was a solid leader last year. THAT interview really showing what the club means to him.

This season he's been very consistent and ironically I'd say he's had his best season with us. He's been poor with his passing at times but has worked on it, he now looks a better player than when he joined us.

The cockney walk was legendary and I've got one last memory, he only played a couple of minutes v Swindon, but he managed to, ahem, make a challenge on a Swindon player in the box that only doyle would make..

Thanks Doyler! Good luck and hopefully see you back at the lane as a fan or a player!

Listened to the interview on RS earlier. Got to say he came across 100 percent genuine and as has been said in earlier threads has a real bond with sufc and it's supporters.
I personally liked Doyle as a player. Ok he was frustrating at times particularly that he didn't get more goals when actually he has a great shot and why oh why he didn't take a pen in the shoot out against HTFC before the likes of andy taylor ..but all that said he has been a superb servant for the club.
I personally don't like how the club have handled this .. Yet again
I have posted on here about communication/PR before and it's another example . Everyone knew all this bollox about we are resting him because he is on 8 bookings was toilet.
Why couldn't they announce it before the chez game and it least give him a send off that he surely deserved .. Club captain and all that ??
Just my opinion

Yes I know. I trust my own eyeballs and Doyle has been twice the player Coutts has for us.

Not our greatest ever player by any means, but at least playing for us seemed to mean something to him. The "Cockney Walk" will live long in the memory. A good, honest pro, and it wouldn't surprise me if he popped up somewhere next season as player/coach.
Good luck Michael and thanks for your efforts.

Yes. And what makes them the best players is talent plus effort.

The point about talent winning without effort was plain wrong. IMHBCO.

Of course, but the terms of reference of our discussion was talented players v committed etc. players. It wasn't premised on your battling triers having ability as well! That's cheating.

11 Curries v Eleven Montgomeries? Referee stopped the contest after 65 minutes to save the Monties from further punishment. Exhaustion set in from excessive shadow-chasing and ball-starvation.

Let's assess that when we've seen a fit Paul Coutts shall we? There are many admirable characteristics about Doyle but he's no footballer. It's time for him to go. He's been a bit disingenuous today as well. He knew full well he was going to be released, as Foxy, who keeps his ear to the ground, has hinted elsewhere.

Let's not pretend he was something he wasn't, eh? It's a bit like a retiring politician today. We're ignoring all the shite. Doyle was Micky O'Montgomery, a relentless shadow-chaser, always five yards off the pace and little more than a training cone for half-decent opponents to ease effortlessly past.

He is a decent, wholehearted bloke. I wish him well but I'm pleased he's going. A Cockney Walk does not a footballer make.

The master of pointing and shouting but not doing much else finally departs. The fact that players like Doyle become wealthy is the reason me and football have pretty much gone our separate ways in the last year or so.

Him and Collins on the playing staff side are the only constant since the slide began and should have been binned years ago. He will always get cheered by the majority of fans due to the perception of him being a "hard worker". I'd contest that for every challenge he's put in he's let 2 players past him and for every pass to a team mate 2 have gone astray. He's become a better player as we have got progressively worse because he becomes more noticeable in a poor side. He doesn't tackle, can't pass and can't dribble but hey, he's said a few nice things about the club in interviews so let's hail him as a hero.

I'll probably get dogs abuse for this post and told that I don't know what I'm talking about but all this "loyal servant" rubbish makes me laugh. Servants got paid next to nothing, this guy has been on at least £200k per annum for his time at the club so I don't think the best interests of anyone but himself have been served. Good riddance.

Yes I know. I trust my own eyeballs and Doyle has been twice the player Coutts has for us.
I should hope he has because he's been here eight or ten times as long. Since Coutts has arrived however he has been getting better and Doyle has just been giving the similar to what he always has but less consistently.
Time to move on.

Maybe Clough had enough of Doyle saying "you know?". The man says it at least 10 times per interview.

Doyle has given four years service. He has given his all and not chosen to leave. We should thank him for his service and wish him luck not pull him to pieces.

How anyone can dispute this is beyond me.

Fantastic listening to him in interviews.

And the fact that he went around thanking all the backroom staff at the Academy and prasing them in interviews, and he even went on one of the supporters coaches after the game on Monday, is a measure of the man. In a time of allegedly distant, couldn't-care-less, mercenaries he was very connected to the club and the fans - and despite this he gets a dog's abuse.

A Division 3 player whose main crime seems to be he isn't world class on the pitch. Great person to have had at the club.

Thanks and Best Wishes.

Couldn't agree more, always gave 100% for me, he was my pick for the play-offs holding player in midfield over Coutts but has he said he didn't get the call. Sorry to see him go but probably time to move on, both for him and the club - we need quality changes down at the Lane so see who we bring in over the summer - these must be Quality players, not the same like for like who NC brought in last summer, if he doesn't bring something special in then it will be back to 'the same old same old'
Good luck Micheal and I will always keep tabs on what you are doing in the future.

What a pity he let himself down in his last interview. He's an experienced pro. His contract is up. His expression of surprise at "being told yesterday" that he was being released is disingenuous at best.

The clue came when no-one asked you in to discuss a new contract Michael.

wow.. just wow
never the guys biggest fan but this has been shockingly handled.. no wonder we have problems attracting players eh?

disgraceful comment

Very much agree with most on here. Fantastic work rate, passionate player, great for big tackles and making it the physical game it should be. On the other hand, very limited technically and we need to be aiming for better to win our way out of this league.

Good luck son and thanks for everything you've done, genuinely wish you well.

One little cameo I've mentioned before was at the end of a warm up this year when he was a sub, they usually do a crossbar challenge from various distances, and Doyle scored a hat trick with 3 out of 3 from 20-22 yards out in about 15 or 20 seconds. Jogged off with a big smile on his face to a big cheer from those of us who were watching.

Nice moment.
