Diego off

Finding this thread quite sad.

The majority of people on here have never met the lad or his family and let people are making sweeping statements about all kinds of things, when clearly they have no knowledge of contractual agreements between said player and club, manager/player relationship, general attitude , family life or anything else to that effect.

If you don't rate him, that's fine, we all have an opinion on players.

At a club where we love to sing 'he's one of ours' about home grown talent, then constructive comments such as he's 's**' and 'tell him to f*** off' is beyond contempt.

I treat him the same as I would treat any player wanting to move away. There is more than a little evidence Diego is turning his back on the club after they have helped nurse him back from serious injury. Could be a pile I grant you but could also be the truth.

As far as I am concerned I am fed up of hearing about the new Messi when all evidence points he is ok but no better.

.

Agree.

I've no idea how good he is or he isn't, but thoughts on the situation are clouded by someone coming on here claiming to be Connor Dimaio's father.

Now if I'd been at a club since I was six and had made a reputable countries U18's or whatever level think I'd be a bit pissed about others coming in from outside and they being perceived as better than me and were moving ahead. I get that bit.

Good luck on what ever direction you take but bitching to your mate's Dad if true and letting him take it public on here was not a good move.

I spoke to his father, Kozimo, last March/April.

My Chesterfield supporting workmate told me today that Cosimo was at the Chesterfield v Orient match last Saturday. My workmate doesnt know him personally but he has seen him now and then at Chesterfield's matches over the years (Cosimo might be small but I have heard that he is a hard man). I assume that if Diego doesnt make much of a career in Italy, he will want to go to Chesterfield. Can we still claim for compensation from an English club even if after Diego tries his luck in Italy?)

I've followed the lads progress in the youth for a long time and he's got the tools. It just hasn't exploded into our first team like many had hoped.

We all work, so what would you do if your gaffer brought someone in who in your opinion wasn't as good as you and promoted them over you?
We'd all be p#ssed I'm sure.
Then another firm offers you the chance to do the job you want on possibly more money? Would you stay or leave? Diego's situation may or may not mirror the above. Only he and the club are privy.

I know football is another world but human nature isn't.

I don't buy the thing about him owing us something for sticking by him through injury either. That's what contracts are for. The club and player have obligations within the contract. A bit like sick pay to the average man like me, and if he wasn't any good he'd get bombed out in a shot. No such thing as loyalty in football.

Disappointed to see him leave but I won't hate him for it and wish him luck in his future career

Publicly humiliate? Clough was answering a question on why he's not playing and stated that McNulty is a better player, which I don't doubt. McNulty is a very decent player and will get better and better, probably because he listens and works hard as well as having talent

My point is Swiss, would Clough have said the same type of thing if he had been asked about one of the senior pro's, Collins for instance ?. Is it the right thing to say in public about someone who is still a Sheffield United player ?. I like MM and think he has a bright future with us, but against PNE in the cup replay, I know which of the two impressed me most. Still, all academic as Diego is leaving, rightly or wrongly there is a lot of bitterness towards the lad now, a while ago we were all looking forward to seeing him come back from injury and seeing him progress, sad end to his United career. Wish him well.

So why waste your time formulating the questions?

You missed 70 innocuous minutes against Walsall in the JPT.

No opportunities? You've listed 7 there. Plus everyday in training. And a loan to York (are they busting a gut to get him back?).
So injury time or 10 minutes as a sub shoved on the wing counts as an opportunity now? Get real.

His record at both York and here of a goal every game and a half is somewhere between 'good' and 'not enough to judge on'. Their fans online were disappointed to see him go back.

Besides, how many ineffective performances have we endured with Higdon, McNulty and Baxter playing as a striker? Countless.

What I'm saying is just because Clough won't give him games doesn't tell you anything about his ability, attitude, performance in training because we see other players ostracised by the manager. It's a character trait I'm happy to accept as part of the package but no need to go making assumptions and slating a youth player.

Except for York's manager, there are another 91 managers who don't seem too bothered.

As Pinchy has said, SUFC is not some kids' club where every youngster "gets a chance", He has played in a handful of first team games and has looked nothing special and (one assumes) when he has been observed in training he has also not looked anything special.

The only adult level at which he has looked reasonable is the 4th Division and, nown he is apparently on his way out, only a 4th division club are willing to take him on loan. Put it this way: if he was as great as some people seem to think, now would be an ideal time for a top two tier team to loan him, stick him in their reserves and assess him with a view to signing him in the summer if he impresses. I wonder why no PL or 2nd Div team is taking that virtually risk free option?

not to mention that he could have signed a pre contract agreement with all these big and foreign clubs from January onwards if they are all fighting over him so badly...

only for players over the age of 23

Diego is desperate for first team football, and returning to York will be much better for him than being stuck in some Championship club's reserves. League Two football is also a better arena for any interested parties to assess him, so it makes more sense than your suggestion.

We have an aim and realistic hope of playing second tier football next season. We are the club that have seen most of what Diego can do, and we wanted him to stay. Clearly our management believed he's got the potential to play at least at that level, hence our contract offer.

All of which still makes little sense to me. Diego could have signed a contract with us (more money), and still gone to York on loan for the rest of the season.

I want to know where he thinks he'll end up in the summer. He must have a plan.

You really think if a top two tier team approached him and said

" we think you have potential come on loan to us until the end of the season. If you impress we will sign you permanently, pay you a lot more than you are getting at SUFC and we will loan you out to a lower division team next season to get first team experience"

You think DDG would say "no, I prefer to go on loan to York".

He knows. Pre contract at Swillsboro ,on loan at York until the end of he season and then the promised land of shit providing the takeover takes place. Anyone want a wager ?

Clough recently referred to a couple of players he brought through at Derby, saying "if you don't play them at 18 or 19, they don't become the players that they are today".

Diego lost more than a year of a critical phase of his development through injury, he'll be 20 this year and can't afford to be waiting any more. Any clubs doing what you suggest, preventing him from playing first team football for another six months, would be fools. Diego would also be a fool to accept such a deal.

I'm more cynical than you. If he could do any better than York, he would, hence he can't.

Gut feel or ITK, Sitters?

It'll be a brave move for him to go there seeing as he will be loathed from the Red side of the City after the manner in which such a move would have been engineered. Also odd as he would surely not be guaranteed a starting place, in a team that scores very few goals and creates few chances - just can't see it Mi'sen. But what makes you so sure? I'm intrigued.

second hand Itk to be fair but someone Im likely to trust.

Hmmmnn - suggest plenty of people wouldn't be best pleased with that sort of move - smacks of a "fuck you salute" with both barrels does that.

Not so much Riviera as Rust. - v odd choice as I said before, not sure it would increase his chances of getting first team action.

......unless the Pigs are thinking about dropping down a league. Now that would be a cunning plan - so cunning you could brush your teeth with it .......
