Diego declines contract

Listening to cloughs post match interview today sounds like he was having a little bit of a dig at Diego, or is it just me interpreting it that way?

I don't know why people are having a go at the lad. If I was in his position, I'd be looking at my options. He's not been given a chance. He scored in the FA Cup and then not even making the bench in the next two games. At the moment, he needs to move for hi career.
Diego has ignored Jose Baxter's advice which was "accept Clough's tough love"

perhaps he thinks 'no matter how much i love the club and how good i play nigel won't pick me anyway.. so i may as well leave'
back in the day at the practice for the school football team i was often the best player.. i once made sub.. noone could understand it. the teacher hated me

Like scoring last week? He's had less chance than most. Higdon has had many many chances. Adams and Wallace went automatically from non-league ahead of him in the pecking order.
So Diego should have been on the bench last Wednesday instead of Adams?

If he's refused to sign a new contract then surely he's not likely to be involved in the first team squad, no matter how many changes.

Didn't say that but it's odd that a player scores two goals after coming on and he's suddenly Jesus. It's a ludicrous argument as Diego could have come on and scored 3. Adams has come on in the league and done very little. Non one would have thought he'd have scored a brace. The point remains that Diego has not been given a fair crack of the whip by Clough.

Made his point nicely didn't he? Tel and Murph sign a contract and win us a game. Diego doesn't and didn't.

Clough must be strong on "attidude before ability"? That is the hallmark of a good manager

One of the biggest myths with Diego is this.

He had a major cruciate ligament injury. Following this he was sent to York and did ok. He came back and was rubbish fir two games. Went back to York and again did ok, nothing more (they benched him too).

He has since come back, been involved on the bench and played and scored.

He has been given opportunities. As Clough has shown, if you have the right ability and attitude, then you will get more opportunities. Not sure Diego has them.

because Higdon and Baxter have great attitudes? I hear this argument then see lazy lumps starting.

They might not be the fittest but both give 120 percent for the team even when left out or played out of position.

Diego favourites tweets of people saying he was played out of position and Clough didn't give him a chance.

He's never once had a run of games. Even a run of games on the bench. How is a player meant to take a chance when he never gets one? The last game he started, he scored. Not to be in a squad since. I'm not saying he has or has not got an attitude problem, but he's certainly never had a fair chance to show if he can make it in this league.

I think hes been given chances ...... but just never performed when it mattered.

He has performed on occasions, remember him coming on and setting Kits up for a goal, and then the equaliser at PNE. Just because he decides he isn't going to sign his new contract and sees his future elsewhere, he's a billy big bollox, he obviously doesn't feel like his career is going to progress here, his future, his future, right or wrong. Wish him well.

Bit unfair on Che Robbie. I could understand Diego not being picked against Spurs, but after his PNE performance, the least he could have expected was to be on the bench today.

If Diego is anything like his dad was in his youth then he will certainly be no great loss if he leaves. Cosimo was a very scary character indeed, was the leader of Chesterfield's hooligans and has a conviction for threatening a business rival with a gun.

If I was United's manager I wouldn't want someone like De Girolamo senior anywhere near the club.

It makes no sense really. He's better trying to start a career at another club as Clough clearly doesn't like him. Whether that's justified or not, I don't know but he's not the first player to fall out with our manager this season. He'd only be the new bullying target for Clough anyway.

How I see it.

Diego s young and impatient, as were most teenage lads.
He wants to play football and feels he can contribute.
Clough is not as sure about Diego as Diego is and can't guarantee him a place on the bench, never mind in team.
HE WANTS TO PLAY FOOTBALL.
You can take the personalities out of the situation. It boils down to this one simple thing.

Now, the million dollar question is will Diego go on to have a better than average career at Championship level or above. If so, we will have dropped a bollock. Frankly, if he doesn't we won't,

My money is on we won't.

Maybe Diego just isn't good enough ?

Who has Clough bullied ?

Jose Baxter has told Diego to listen to Clough.

Interesting in Murphy's interview post Spurs he says Che is learning a lot about pro football and Clough is the best man to teach him.

Lots of other professionals speak highly of Clough and some drop divisions to play for him.

Despite your illogical rhetoric, I would suggest if there is an issue with Diego and Clough, the issue is not with Nigel.

billy big bollocks can fuck off for me. who does diego think.he is trying to hold our club to random to get more game time. scored 1 goal, played a few games a york but got subbed at times uet thinks he should be playing, says it all!!

felix , bit unfair on the family . The simple answer is certain younger players have overtaken him . Great footballing skills , but he may think he is worth more than he actually is. Perhaps his family do not help on this one.

Even top journalist Henry Winter at the Telegraph rates him highly.

Mr Clough may think he is not ready for first team football on a regular basis , although i thought he did well at Preston. The kid has had a career threaten injury and has come back from it. Blades paid his wages and stuck by him and perhaps he should show some loyalty . . Must be something not right , and we don't know about , and never will.

Good luck to the kid and is worth a punt by any club whether Juventus , Sunderland , Rotherham or Chesterfield or any other.

We cannot miss him , on paper fantastic talent , in reality , nobody really knows. All a bit of a puzzle.
