Eoin Doyle

Chesterfield signed a new striker yesterday and Cook said they expect someone to match their valuation of between 1 and 2 million.

We will never see Sheffield United pay out 1-2million twice in the same window.

And why should we for someone who might be a one season wonder? If he were proven championship clubs would be clamouring for him. Uneasy about Doyle having invested so much in the Beard, maybe worth it we can offload Hippo as a make weight

Not sure why there are so many Doyle doubters. Every time I've seen him play he's been really good. Not just a good goalscorer (which he is) but a hard worker as well. He also has a good attitude i.e. not a dirty bleeder or cheat.

Surely if there was ever a one season wonder it was Ched Evans but plenty of fans wanted him back pretty badly.

I've seen Doyle the once, but he looks an excellent prospect. His movement is very good, can play alongside a big lad and in a three, plus looks pacey and is a decent finisher.

As I said after the game, he's probably worth £500k but as its jan his value probably doubles to £1m. If we've got the funds I'd get him

He has a touch of the ched's about him on the pitch, his movement is very good and likes to play on the front foot - if you play to a strikers strengths you often get goals from him

Couple of differences felix,Ched Evans showed signs before his great season for us,he got 10 goals for Norwich in the championship and another thing is Cheds' great season came at a lot younger age than Doyles'

Now i'm not saying don't get him but you can see where the doubts come from considering what sides he's played for.You have obviously seen him more than me,but is he worth the £2million quoted from Paul Cook? And would you spend that on him if you could afford it? SwissBlade makes a good point,if you play to a strikers strengths you often get goals from him.Now shouldn't this apply to the ones we already have?

Tickets were on last night for Clough, not sure if he, or his brother were there. We want Doyle, are waiting for the decision from Chesterfield, and the player. Suppose it will boil down to who we are competing against. He works his socks off every game, and is a great finisher, he is right at the top of his game at the moment, so it`s hard to say if this season is a flash in the pan, as in previous season`s goals were the only thing missing from his game.

Well that's about as sure a sign that this particular deal might happen. Reminds me of the voice of authority who once proclaimed that we'll never see a man walk on the face of the moon.

I think we're near a deal..reckon they'll want more add ons/rising to a higher figure etc...

Although he's having an exceptional season, I wouldn't call him 'a flash in the pan'...

You said the other day that the COG deal was done, has this changed now, or are we in for both

Why not? Where else with any club to speak of has he done it before? What remains to be seen is if he moves clubs, will he remain a flash in the pan? That's the gamble we'd have to take if we're going to spend the reported £2million on him.If it was 500k tops, then you'd have him in the blink of an eye,but £2million is a tad on the steep side for a league one striker.

I much prefer this signing to COG personally. I have seen £600k raising to above a million as the price quote somewhere

That wouldn't be too bad pricewise, better than the £2million i have seen quoted.Lets see how much money we've got left, very interesting times.

Why do people presume that players aren't moving because they scored the day before? Baffling
I kindda agree, with that.
BUT
COG's newfound form seems to have stopped his move to us

As others have said, it won't be £2 million...nearer £1 million maybe dependant on us hitting targets.

I think Rotherham offered summat like £600k in total...with possibly £3-400k up front or some such and the rest if they stayed up etc...which was rejected..

P.s-he'd be worth £2 million if we got him and his goal scoring record continued and we were promoted!

UTB!

I think that seems the most sensible. £1Million would be about right and i'm pretty sure Chesterfield wouldn't turn down that. However, they don't need to sell him and their league form is excellent... so they may want to keep him and push on with their current play off attempt.. or potentially better.

Don't doubt anything in that mate, but how many players have we bought or could've bought that have gone onto be worth more over the years?

I'm only going on what i've read regarding the fee mate but ultimately it could all be a load of bull 'tbh' or Mr Cook trying to get the most he possibly can for his player by aiming high. How much did they get him for in the first place,if anyone knows? Cheers.

IF can be a gigantic word sometimes mate.

I would love it, just love it, if we were to get COG and Doyle. They will dovetail perfectly. Cog an excellent 'centre-forward', strong and holds it up - notches reasonably well. Doyle, nowhere near as physical, but works tirelessly and is a natural in front of goal.

Come on Blades - Make it happen!

Yep, sure can, I agree..
I think Chessy got him on a free/small fee?...his contract being up??

The way I'm looking at it is we'll be buying the top L1 striker at the moment ( a statement of intent as much as owt else!)...if we go up we'll be buying new players anyway..if we stay down we'll be buying new players and Doyle will be better than what's here at present ( IF he maintains his form with us...) so we'll be off loading some..

If we've got the cash then spend it now and give us the best chance possible of promotion this year!

Good post. What it boils down to is have we got any money left to spend from the budget we had? and if we have, like you say spend it now and give us the best possible chance to get up this season.Doyle is doing brilliant 'atm' and i suppose one way to look at it is we are taking away one of our playoff rivals best players, now that would be intent.

I wish. More of a gut feeling :)

Yes, same as me. Either COG or Doyle would be a real declaration, but both....

Maybe I'm in danger of premature exhiliration!
:)
Anyway, time to set off. Want to be there early tonight. Jim wants me to buy a scarf! I really fancy one of those Half-Blades; Half Spurs ones.
