Unless the game changing investment means we can have everyone on the list...The Beard, COG, Coutts, Freeman AND GMS!!!

Said it before and will say it again Flynn has made the right back spot his. IMO he offers just as much as the Beard and as much as I would like to,see him back with us the £1.7 could buy us a team at this level

IF we got Brayford and Freeman would this be the end of Alcock? Doubt he's going to want to be second choice and Flynn seems to be doing a good job there so he could become third choice.

£1.7million for Beard then eh?

Is that over 5 years and dependent on us reaching the Prem in that period, with an upfront payment of £350k by any chance?

Apparently certain Cardiff fans are beginning to resign themselves to losing Brayford. The obvious strange one about Brayford leaving South Wales is that the man is clearly a first team player and not one on the fringes i.e. Maynard etc. Many of their fans clearly do rate him and if you check on their forums his apparent replacement Adam Matthews would be seen as step back. Anyway reading between the lines, this does look like it will be a possibility. http://www.cardiffcityforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=153225

What wrong having the Beard at RB and Flynn playing in front of him, overlapping, linking up and being a pacey threat? Especially now Flynn has showed his defensive qualities to be really good

Must admit I was worried about McE when he first came. Didn't know what he was like but the negativity on here surrounding him made me worry we were signing a bad player. For me he is one of the first names on the team sheet, and bonus he's not one of our more injury pron players

Having never seen him play, I based my judgement pre signing on the reputation he had. Clough clearly played a wild card here though as against QPR he not only looked a quality centre half, but a leader as well. Organising the back four, letting Tel Kennedy attack the ball whilst he swept up and read the game very well. I firmly believe he's a future captain in the making.

Not in today's market, plus as good as flynn is, he has no height and the Beard is a more natural right back. If it's right what people have said that he could be given the captaincy, then scrap my above comment on McEveley.

This is one of the things that might make a big outlay worth it to get him.

We wouldn't just be getting a player, we'd also be paying to restore a partnership on the right hand side which was instrumental to our run in the second half of last season. We'd also be getting an infusion of quality, intelligence and vision that would help make other players around him better, as well as a player who appears 100% comfortable with a manager whose methods he knows very well from the past. And, if he is as attached to us as he seems to be, we'd presumably also be getting all these things for a year or three to come.

In summary, we'd be forking out to improve the defence; improve our attacking RH side (and our defensive RH side if Flynny plays ahead of him); improve other players / the team; consolidate relationships between team and management; and enhance our building for the long-term. And that's before we get to the lift it would give everyone, and the fact that--barring injury or loss of form, neither of which he seems prone to--there appears to be zero risk to us: we all know exactly what we'd be getting, and exactly how good he is.

How do we put a price on that ? In our current position ?

A lot of talk about if Brayford comes in, him restoring his partnership down the right hand side with Flynn.

Umm what about our current right midfielder who for me has been one of our better players this season Jamal Campbell-Ryce? As of right now i can't see him being dislodged from his RM position nor would i want to.

Also, re improving our defensive capabilities in midfield (with Flynninho played ahead of the Beard), this might also make it more realistic for us to play a 4-4-2 more regularly, or for longer spells. When we've tried it recently we've been overrun in midfield. A Flynn-Beard axis down the right would be one step toward the more solid-looking midfield 4 which we are going to need if we are serious about, eg, an O'Grady / McNulty partnership up top. Would give us a lot more, defensively, than any permutation of Flynn, Alcock, Jamal ?

Of course, a ball-playing, rapid, goal-scoring, hard as nails midfield general would also help :)

You got a like from me for this

There's a lot of frenzied talk and permutations going on here peeps, be a bummer if we end up missing all our targets this JTW

Could the beard play the CDM role from next season when Doyle moves on?

Some of these sources about as credible as a Green Party Manifestp.

Do we need anyone? Brayford and poss COG but we're flying at the minute!

As much as El Beard returning would be great, £1.7 million is an *AWFUL* lot of money for a right-back... he's a good player, and certainly an upper-Championship class player, but he never got near the Cardiff side in the Prem last year which is why he was allowed out on loan. If it hadn't been for his relationship with Cloughie, we'd've never gotten near him.

£500k to £750k would be a more reasonable number. £1.7 million could be far more usefully spent.

£1.7 Mil is a lot of money yes but it's wisely spent if it's on the beard.

Brizzle sign Tavernier who I rate highly having seen him a number of times last season at Rovrum. They don't fk about do they? Just get on with the business at hand, whilst we seem to dilly dally over a few grand

Whilst I accept Clough's comments regards strengthening the side and getting stronger the second half of the season, I think he forgets the sides around us will almost also definately strengthen as well. Preston and Brizzle already have players in the bag. Not sure of Swindons finances and whilst MK have lost Afobe, they will almost certainly be back in the market

Is it too early to say that nothing is going to happen?!

In other news I need to see if I can buy my Preston ticket yet :)

I hate to put a dampener on things but we are NOT signing the beard lads.

He is a first-team regular and not in a million years are we going to pay almost 2mill for a player in league one.

Clough has already said we will not pay over the odds or any player despite how good they are, plus the 80k figure around GMS has only re-enforced we're not really willing to splash the cash.
