Having sat and had an enjoyable evenings viewing last night, watching the mighty Blades smother rampant Walsall in kisses, it occurred to me that we're getting this all wrong and thought that I should seek some perspective.

We did great last night, played some attractive football in two thirds of the pitch and ok, we lost, but winning isn't really the point of the game is it ? These days its all about the taking part.

So I started thinking; why on earth do we need to sign a striker anyway, all they do is score goals and they're not that important in the game really are they ? Strikers cost lots of money and so its so much easier and cheaper to sign other players and they can "rotate" every so often to fill the role that some other boring clubs give to a striker.

So for example; we can use players like Baxter, Scougal, Murphy, Campbell-Rice, Reed, anybody really, to fill the role just for the game ....... a bit like we did "goalie wag" at school. We can invent "striker wag" and save ourselves a load of money. We could even let the substitute keeper have a go as well to keep them from feeling left out.

I'm sure that from time to time a midfield player, or even a defender will score a goal and this will be a real novelty and cause for genuine celebration, rather than if we had a really annoying prolific striker who was scoring, say every other game, that would just be boring wouldn't it.

So there we are, that's my suggestion for the master plan to getting out of the Division ....... I hope nobody has already thought of this because I think I'm breaking new ground with tactics here ....... o_O

...thank f*** Ched's a midfielder...box to box..quite literally...

I fear that there will be many, many such Darth days ahead of us

In fact, whilst considering the exciting prospect of some more 0 - 0 draws, I thought of another excellent benefit of continuing for the rest of the season with no strikers.

There would be much less wear & tear on the final third of the pitch because, like last night, we wouldn't actually venture into it !!
It just gets better

i do believe a league one manager is in the process of trying this very radical tactic for his first team with some sucess, brian clough or some such name, hes the manager of Vile Rapist United or is it No Celebrity Fans Left FC, it elludes me for the moment, but yes darth it appears you and ,this manager (whos name i just cant remember) also believes this, playing anyone but a "striker", i believe they are called up front to score goals(?) is the future of football, and i for one agree totally.

We average 1.25 goals per game in the league under Nigel Clough.

Abysmal.

In November we've averaged 0.0 goals a game across all competitions. Two strikers out, no replacements, Baxter's confidence is shot, other players aren't stepping up, looked toothless on Wednesday. I'm not trying to be a doom monger, hopefully it will turn around tomorrow, but is it that mad to be worrying about where the goals are going to come from at the moment?

Mark my words in years to come 4-6-0 will be as common-place as 4-4-2 and 4-3-3

This is a really good point and its a potential flaw in my master plan for tactical genius. I haven't considered the structure of the 10 outfield players in enough detail for this to be adopted by Wenger / Van Gaal / Mourinio.

Do we go 4 - 6 - 0, or 5 - 5 - 0, or perhaps get a little more technical and go for a 4 - 1 - 5 - 0 or a 5 - 1 - 4 - 0. OR, perhaps we could try playing 2 goalkeepers ( as long as only one of them handles the ball of course) but this would leave the dilemma of only 9 players to use in midfield / defence.

Either way I'm committed to this no striker plan ....... it seems to tick all the boxes.

Cynic! My prediction for next Tuesday.

After 90 mins. 0-0
After ET. 0-0
After penalties 0-3.

And we still won't need any strikers to complete this achievement because defenders, midfielders and keepers can take penalties. The striker position is on its way out ...... unnecessary, overrated and outdated .
