I wonder if whatever illness he has, was passed to Campbell but Campbell had the bollocks to turn up (for his appearance bonus)?

He did not look good during the Blackburn game, particularly at the end when he pretty much keeled over after 45 minutes of light exercise

If he’s got ME, he’s passed it on to Campbell.

why can't professional footballers get fit ffs , we hear it all the time with our squad , "he's not up to speed , he gased out after 50 mins " What the fucks up with them !

In a way it is a big season for him, although not meant really in the terms of how Wilder bigged him up, at 27 when his contract expires if he hasn't had a decent season and isn't injury free he will find not many takers, he should be out of the door, especially as we have Curtis. He won't get that salary anywhere else, so might have to hope his fitness holds out and take a drop down a few leagues. But if he does some how have a big season we could take an option to risk a 1 year plus option to extend.
Looking at contracts next summer is an interesting one:

Davies
Kitching
Baptiste
Norrington-Davies
Doherty
Shackleton
Choudhury
Riedewald
Phillips
Rothwell
Donovan
Brereton-Diaz
Ayew
Bamford

That’s over half the squad out of contract. Then another 8 who fall into the year to go category:

Cooper
Tanganga
Seriki (when option triggered)
Burrows
McCallum
Peck
Arblaster
Campbell

Whilst there is some opportunity to further reshape the wage structure we need to start working through some of these contracts or consider some other departures in January or their value is going to be next to nothing.

Looks like next summer is the perfect time to clear out the management and start fresh. I'm sure the owners have learnt a lot and will actually do some interviews next time.

This is why they extended Wilder's contract, let him rebalance the squad - get the high earners out of the club and put a solid platform in place for whatever comes next. We wouldn't want to retain any of those contracts expiring next year with maybe the exception of Baptiste. With the exception of Campbell the next batch should all have new contracts at some point this season.

Lots of talk of Tom Davies being a waste of a wage. At least he contributed both on and (heavily) off the pitch.

What has this bloke done apart from be crap and be injured? Oh yeah, get arrested for dogging or whatever it was. Of all the wastes of money we've had, he's well up there. No upsides whatsoever apart from a) he's made the physios work for their money, and b) he's into his final year. Thank fuck.

He's gonna get an extension isn't he

I love that the dogging thing has just become fact now.

From Wiki!

Shackleton is known for his pace and high level fitness, with Joe Urquhart of the Yorkshire Evening Post writing that "his feet scarcely seem to touch the turf when he skims across it".

No mention of his outdoor hobbies though.

“"his feet scarcely seem to touch the turf”

There is a lot of truth in this statement!

We should genuinely be allowed to sue him for fraud, 3 year contract and he's played less than 500 minutes of first team football
Personally I think the medical assessments prior to signing are the problem. As someone who had to give up football and squash in my early 30s and had to stop skiing around the same time, I have every sympathy with a professional sportsman who is constantly injured (through no fault of their own). For me it culminated in 2 artificial hip joints at the age of 41 - I'm very grateful that they are still functioning well nearly 33 years later, but It did have a very detrimental effect on life in my late 20s and all through my 30s though.
I wish him all the best.

I know Shackleton is a bit of a meme but I'm genuinely quite stunned by his lack of availability at this point. He's started two whole games (league AND cup!) since signing ~28 months ago, and played 405 league minutes total in his Blades career. The longest time he's spent on the pitch is 61 minutes, inexplicably coming at Elland Road. The worst part about it is that we're better off with him out of the team than in it, but it'd have been nice not to have to pay for the privilege.

Tom Davies managed 3x those minutes (still terrible, but he actually did stuff with them!).

This is that gets me about the duplicity of our approach to signing players.

We can literally sack off 90%+ of European countries we might sign fit and able players from yet we can’t immediately dismiss the possible signing of anyone who hasn’t managed to be fit for half the games of their prior club.

Instead of expecting the physio to change water to wine the Management should be acutely aware of their injury backgrounds and simply stay well clear of them.

Shackleton and Davies being unavailable was as predictable before they signed as it has been proven.

Wilder said Shackleton had a role this season, wonder what it was 🤔

Good chunk of wages he’ll be on as well. Call it £5000 to £8000 a week? Not bad is it.

Don't disagree it's the clubs fault, but I struggle to have much sympathy for a bloke that's probably earnt more in these last 3 years than I will in my lifetime, and not done his job for any significant period of time during those 3 years.

12 month extension incoming ...

every Leeds fan id spoken to regards him spoke very highly and they were suggesting we had a very good player on our hands ... and they were being serious i may add

So he's to blame? No-one at the club for keeping him so long but not using him, or sending him out or releasing or selling him.
