He threw the players under the bus last year too after taking over from Selles. But last year it was the young ‘AI lads’ & it still didnt really have the desired effect when the old pros weren’t performing. He tried it regularly with Soumare and kept bombing him out, then having to bring him back in when we got injuries / suspensions.

Now he’s throwing the old pros under the bus hoping for a better reaction. Do we really think Rothwell, Jairo, Doherty etc are going to get a sudden burst of motivation to prove him wrong? Or are they all happily going to sit on the bench on decent contracts & then move on. These aren’t young players looking to move on to bigger and better things and build their careers, this is the last decent payday for most of them.

It’s such a Sunday League move & it just doesn’t wash when we’ve seen so many copies of that performance over the past year, regardless of the personnel.

I think some of it is just a case of the ‘old school’ management style being outdated and not working any more in 2026. The game is always moving forward with modern times whether we all like it or not and I think the age of the ‘manager’ who runs a club from top to bottom with that tubthumping siege mentality style is/has gone so we’ll never recreate that time from 10 years ago.

We are being outplayed tactically by every team we come up against. They watch us for 10 minutes and see we can’t play through them and just hit the channels for Cannon. All they have to do is press us high and either force errors or make us kick is back to them. We have no pace in midfield to get across the pitch or screen the back four so it’s so easy to create overloads against us or isolate our full backs one on one.

There’s a reason Dyche, Allardyce, Pardew and Pulis do podcasts and adverts about days gone by and don’t manage anymore. I think sadly Wilder is probably one of the ones now being left behind.

I think its those who are not getting a start like Doherty, and then perhaps Rothwell, Reidewald and I would throw Campbell in too. The subs coming on actually played "better" but that was only because the bar was so low. With McCallum and Burrows out we have a massive problem at LB and with Seriki out we have a massive problem at RB but he wont play Doherty who is a RB and plays Choudhury who isnt a RB. So definitely Doherty he is speaking about.

Nothing will spoil what he oversaw from 2016-2020 but sad to say, I've grown weary of him.

First time around I used to agree with almost everything he said in post match interviews. Yeah, he rarely took any responsibility for poor results but he also was driving on players and trying get the absolute most out of them, which he did until many hit a wall during 2020/21.

Now it's just deflection and contradiction. Irrespective of ownership issues, he's brought in these players - how much did people think was going to be spent this summer, who was he expecting to bring in that has had the rug pulled?

He's as culpable as anyone and his desired experience is just older players who look either incapable anymore or just not that motivated.

The style of play isn't just boring, it's pitiful, out-dated, and ineffective.

It feels to me like the game has passed him by in a matter of years.

You can't keep living on past glories, especially those that only lasted a few years.

We can definitely replace him with someone worse but the very best we'll do with him now is tread water and potentially cause further damage to the squad and club finances.

Problem here is that it should have been identified in the pre season and before the transfer window shut,it's baked in now until January at least and could well manifest itself more if injury and suspensions kick in.
If only he'd been here for most of last season. He's still talking like he's just taken over and is running the rule over the squad for the first time.

We have absolutely nothing down the left hand side at all , BBD is not a natural wide player , always looking to come inside & gives us no width . When Burrows is fit I’d like to see him out in the left .
I was there last night & we are so predictable , slow & deliberate in our build up play . Side to side & backwards across the defence & midfield with no one looking for a through ball .
When teams press us we have to go long but we don’t have a player to hit that’s good enough in the air or can bring the midfield in ( ironically a Keiffer Moore ) .
Our lack of creativity is stark & we are gonna be I hell of a struggle this season with a lack of goals .

One of the reasons I liked COH was that he actually ran around and looked like he gave a shit. Similarly the likes of Ben Osborne or Matty Done. Being physically fit and putting in a shift should be the minimum for any player.
Ben Osborn would walk into our midfield, he wasn't the best player but you could guarantee to get 100% effort out of him.

Take Mara Donovan out of this side & we are well and truly fckd, the only one with any skill and pace in Wilders dad's army sadly 😥
Isnt it great tge best players are not our own.. when we have good players cya gone .. we really are a shitshow of a football club. I wonder if we will become a swindon or oldham

Dead man walking.

It's only a matter of time now and of how much damage he and his coaches and team cause before he leaves.

That first CW was brilliant fun and an incredible time but this one is old, can't get a tune from his choices and staff and, frankly, bitter, arrogant and unlikeable.

The 'connection' hasn't been there for a long time now.

We need to, and should, move him on and soon.
I agree but I don't want to the owners to persevere to the point that the fans venemously turn on him and he loses all the respect and "legend " status he's genuinely earned, it could end up with him becoming some sort of villain.
As to who replaces him I've no idea only one who would take over temporarily would be phil Jones but I've seen no feedback on his coaching style.

Absolutely this.

Question

The point has been raised that this forum represents a tiny number of Blades fans - the posts are very much 80/20 against Wilder .

That doesn’t feel or seem to be the same at matches - (although from the sounds of it the fans vented their feelings against the team last night)

I wonder what the ratio is within the full support numbers - that’s the key question .

I sense apathy and a fatalistic mindset at the Lane but not any hostility to CW . Are we reaching a true and real tipping point where the lot caves in ?

Before the Bolton ? game , many were predicting a ‘toxic’ atmosphere at the Lane against the owners - nothing at all . Many predicting same against Wilder if we lose at Stoke - wonder if that’s about to happen or will we just put up and make do ?

Interesting times - for the wrong reasons

I’m still pro-Wilder remaining but this interview and the performance represent the first seeds of doubt creeping in. The one thing that’s always annoyed me about him is how he never takes responsibility in interviews. Maybe in the long run throwing half the team under the bus will be a good thing as it will either spark a reaction or hasten the end if it goes badly

It's hard to get a true picture from social media as different platforms can provide very different opinions.

I got rid of a number of Blades groups on FB but from the bits I see, FB seems more in favour of him than say this place.

I think there are plenty of fans who are becoming really unsure about CW now but aren't venting openly for a few reasons, because he's a Blade and genuinely cares, what he's achieved previously, and maybe because they know people in his circle if not CW himself.

TBF the first notable vocal venting of CW I heard away from home was at Bristol last season. Plenty of individual criticisms of him in the stand first half and on the concourse at half time, plus audible chanting of 'sideways and backwards everywhere we go'.

Like Roygbiv said earlier, I do honestly fear we may see some of the internal fisticuffs we saw at the end of Harry's reign.

I think there's a bit of a misconception that everybody in the away end is fully behind Wilder. People may join in with pro-Wilder songs to support the team in the moment, but it doesn't necessarily mean they unconditionally back him. It takes a lot of guts being anti-Wilder at games too due to the passionate support he has from certain sections. This is why I think it will eventually end up with fans fighting because it's extremely reminiscent of the latter Bassett days

I think you’re spot on when you say it’s apathy for the majority. There’s a vocal minority on both sides.

I think people have become numb to it because let’s be honest, we’ve been crap to watch for a few years now. We’ve gone through a cycle of Wilder to Hecky to Wilder (with a minor detour to Slav & Selles). This is what we've become used to now for the past few years & we seem to have accepted as a fanbase that we’ll never have a young, dynamic team or an unheard of coach who takes us forward. Our collective mindset is we need someone who ‘gets’ the club & a bunch of battlers in the squad.

Combine that with the shambles from the board & probably a general apathy towards modern football in general from some. We know that even if we did get promoted again we can’t compete in the Prem against the massive wage bills, VAR etc. So even the end goal isn’t motivating when we’ve seen our last 2 ‘attempts’ at staying up go so horrendously.

We’re in a bit of a perfect storm of crap currently and we need to ride it out, avoid relegation and clear the decks.

1. Off plan.
They had that 10 minutes when players went off plan.
Players wanted to go off plan.

What is this mythical plan? Is it tactical? If we were ok first half as he says then the plan would seem to be slowly fuck about side to side hoof going forward. Leave the right side undefended coming back.

2. We’ve got to come out of the traps second half we’ve got more gears in us.

Chris you haven’t got any gears. The gearbox has fucking seized because the gears are old and worn and the gearbox oil is gone. No matter what the engine does it can’t shift those gears. You elected to buy in old and shit parts.

For fans it’s so incredibly frustrating when they can see the likes of Campbell hasn’t performed for some time and seems incapable of improving and yet he gets a 3 year contract. All the evidence from other fans, tv and video was Rothwell was finished yet we sign him. There are seriously good athletic young players out there but he likes a good solid pro because they won’t challenge him.

Hes making me lose interest in United. When that happens at my age, once I’ve gone I won’t be back.

When “the plan” has seen you getting absolutely out fought and a goal down to a team 2 leagues below you, I think it’s fair for the players to say “fuck it, let’s try something different for ten minutes”.

I don’t believe it’s possible for all our players to be as bad as they were, it very much reminds of that effort teams put in when the dressing room has gone and they’re biding their time until a new guy comes in.

We ended the game with BBD, Bamford, Ayew, Donovan and Cannon in the pitch. Are we really expected to believe each of these to a man is below L2 level? When they’ve been toe to toe with an ex prem team only 3 days ago?

It’s bollocks.

CW lives off excuses. It’s someone else fault, the players, the board, the backroom staff, the fans, take your pick.

One person picks the team and tactics, and that person has been living in the past since last season. How many games did we make teams look like Barcelona last season? And that’s with much better players.

You could even argue we had superior defensive quality in the 92pt season, and enough creative players to make something happen.

This is it,last week it was the fans making the shirt heavy, today the players were too arrogant, that's some 360,last week he trusted the players 100 pc, today some of them can't be trusted, another 360.
Does he think nobody takes notice of all his contradictory statements?
I dont listen to a word he says, poor manager, poor team and shocking ownership!
