I know that - you know that. We all love our city and our football club.

But the attitude to the Blades, newspapers, personalities, media ... is always equal parts patronising and dismissive. No one really believes in Sheffield United, do they? We're plucky triers with 'passionate' managers. To many we are a makeweight Championship team, fathoms below the trendy clubs like (ahem) Brentford, Brighton and Bournemouth. Tell me they are functionally bigger than the Blades? What they do have is financial leverage and owners who have actually come to the club and done what they said they'd do. Look at where Forest were ten years ago. They were shite, and bedecked with backroom strife. Now they are punching their weight up in the top league.

Even when we went up with Wilder, first time, there was nothing about our 'investments' that gave me massive confidence and in my eyes, our lofty finish that season was more parts chance and luck having an alignment of players than it was planning for the long haul.

We’re in crisis management stage and downsizing, some random fucker from league one with minimal experience isn’t what we need. We need stability; someone who is going to be a figurehead of the club and do the dirty work to get points and overcome the lack of any meaningful support; the only club to spend no fee, as at Thursday, signed the least players and are getting out spent by Lincoln City.

And on this Board. Those that are entrenched in sacking off Wilder, fill your boots, there’s an entire thread to pick apart anything he gets wrong and ignore anything he gets right.

Just spamming the message board with such nonsense just wastes everyone’s time. The same folk asked for change they got Sellés. The retort is “oh but I didn’t want someone who would lose all their matches. I meant being someone in who would do nothing but guarantee wins”. It’s not that simple is it? You got a change and it was an unmitigated disaster. If they changed and got a different manager would it have been a success? Maybe. But you had your dash and the club fucked it. Pigs should be way in front of us in nearly everything historically, origin date, much bigger better stadiums, honours, wealth etc. Surprising their historic home average is only about 1950 more than ours. Take away their massive attendance years, 1948/55, it goes down to just over 1700. The potential at BDBL is there but with only the right owners and investers, unless you take into account Dick Wragg. Pigs are creaming it that they may average30K for the first time in 60+ years in what is a fake season for them attendance wise. Point is if we had historically half of what they had we would be much, much bigger than them. Don't get fooled by all the garbage you read in the media lazy journalism, it just ain't so.

Agree, but must highlight the issue of history, which all pigfans hate but facts is facts, folks.

'The Wednesday' did indeed form in 1867.

Yes, they even played at BDTBL. Long story, but a dispute saw them move out to Olive Grove and soon after, Sheffield United Football and Cricket club was established at BDTBL. The Wednesday moved to Owlerton (then outside Sheffield's official city boundary, so not technically representing Sheffield as such) and only adopted 'Sheffield' into their title in ... 1929.

Wednesdayites loathe this pedantry, but who cares. Their silly old badge with the carton bird and '1867' isn't really cutting it for me, especially as their antecedents played their football at Bramall Lane.

I still struggle to understand quite why they attract such arousal in media and celebrity outlets and so many of the city's youth end up socially and mentally abused into supporting them. They're not that 'massive' a club. Their stadium is a dump and their followers critically deluded.

Imo , Bettis was upset they'd sacked his mate.
And probably upset they just got Selles off the back of a fag packet without any selection process , so he had no input.
So he was perfectly happy to sit quietly and let them get Selles , who he knew would be a disaster.
And , having seen Wilder return to the club once before , he'd a good idea that once Selles went south , they'd go crawling back to his mate CW.
Think about it and then ask yourself why the club feels "devoid of progress".
