When we were allegedly in for him in the summer and he went to stoke I watched quite a few of stokes games.
I genuinely thought thank god we didn't sign him.
Can someone say what striker he reminds them of.
He is No Edwards,Dearden,Agana or Sharpe.

Wilder isn’t changing the way we play to accommodate a striker that doesn’t get involved. So what’s the point in persevering with him?

Coz he darent admit to the owners that he spent £10m without really knowing why it would never work.

No problem with selling Cannon. Sometimes is just doesnt work out, reclaim what you can and move on.

What worries me is who we're left with. Bamford can't play every game, Campbell doesnt look interested/fit, Oné could be Rangers-bound.

If Cannon left would the board sort out a replacement or would we be left to make do or sign an unknown kid on loan?

We might be better hanging on and hoping something clicks

Jeff Bourne

For some strange reason, i only thought about Jeff Bourne the other day (think it was because i had seen him knock in a penalty for us at the BL end in a third division game v Oxford in late 1979, which was on Motd. From Derbyshire, he spent a lot of career playing for various MLS teams in the USA. I thought Jeff was a fairly intelligent player (so not like Tom Cannon then) and he played for Derby County too.

He passed away about 5 years ago, still relatively young.

Thanks for that , good memories as Rod died 7 years ago from dementia. I was a teenager and watched Leicester regularly until I met my hubby in 1975…he was a Blade and converted me quite quickly

Your brother played for Leicester in my first ever game - Boxing Day 1970.
Fortunately the 2-1 score was in our favour that day.

There is a clear incompatibility between how Cannon likes to play as a striker (runs in behind, going one-on-one with the GK), and how the team is currently instructed to play offensively (clear focus on working the ball into wide areas for deliveries into the box, patient build-up play, minimal interest in direct passing in behind a defence). It's possible that we would see more success from him were we to play in a manner that benefitted Cannon's constant movement along the defensive line (and in behind it). But instead, a significant expectation is placed on our strikers to be a link-up man, enabling the philosophy of moving the ball out to either side.

In the right side, I think Cannon would be significantly more effective than we are allowing him to be. And Preston, with Hecky in charge, could very well be that side. But unless we adopt a major change in tactical approach (which I suspect would also require a managerial change), Cannon is likely to always be ridiculed on here for poor performance. We'd be better off trying to get any sort of transfer fee for him just to mitigate the significant financial investment we put into his transfer in the first place.

we were on the tivoli that day absolutely rammed couldnt move and exploded when barry butlin thumped that back post header in at the tivoli end 20k crowd and must have been 15k blades filling 3 sides of millmoor 2 - 1.win

He did and a couple of years before he died I managed to get the shirt he wore that day for him and his family from a Rotherham fan

We have got to be soo much better than just having one way to play. Tire them out with boring side to side stuff then after 20 minutes of that, bang one long down the middle for the striker to run onto and slot it in. Good sides do both. We only do one. Also set pieces, pens and goals from full backs. All required for a winning team

Now is the time to sell him.

His goals at Stoke are not quite a distant memory for some yet.

He’s still of an age just about to be perceived as young with potential.

With at least a couple of years left on his contract he’s not in that vortex yet that sucks value from him due to time left.

Optimise what we can this window then go again.

In fact using the money to go and buy the winger from Boreham Wood would be a surprisingly smart move for us.

Then perhaps loan a different type of forward.
